I have a baby girl. She is 3 weeks old. I picked her up from the hospital on Sunday. She was born addicted to heroin and methodone. Other than the withdrawals, she is doing great. She has strawberry blonde hair and right now she has grey eyes. The nurses said her eyes will change by the time she is 6 months old. I really hope not.
She was a full term baby. Her 3 bio-siblings (two toddlers and a tween) were adopted by their foster parents in August. The baby's attorney wanted to place her with her siblings but the judge decided against it. The judge wanted to terminate the mother's rights at the hearing but mom's attorney asked that she be given time to rehab. CPS has no faith in mother since the other children had been in foster care for two and a half years before the mother's rights were terminated. There is no father to worry about, since mother says she was raped. No other family members to care for her. None of the family was able to gain custody of her because they have histories of felony conviction, drug and CPS cases of their own. The first two days were a challenge, but we are settling in and transistioning well. My foster son is now one and is a bundle of charm. He is doing great as a big brother. He goes to her when she cries. He has a natural curiousity about her. He probes her ears, eyes and nose for "whatever". Although, I am only a foster mom, my life is fulfilled. One day I will adopt when the opportunity arises. Also, I will be having a hysterectemy soon. I have 13 large fibroids on my uterus which are causing issues with my bladder and intestine. I am fine and have accepted that I will never birth any child of my own.

Both of those babies are so lucky to have you in their lives! It still makes me so sad to hear the stories about what some of these birhtmothers do. You are helping in a way no one else could. You definitely don't have to give birth to your child to be a great mom! I hope an eventual adoption works out for you someday!

Thanks for the update!!!!! I think of you all the time. I am glad to hear you have been blessed with a baby girl too. Yeah, for big brother adjusting so well! Sounds like you are busy, but the best kind of busy ever!!!!
Is there any chance that your son will be available for adoption anytime? Or are they still working with the birthparents? Good luck with your surgery, I hope all goes well! |

Clusmith, CPS still working with his bio-parents. They take one step forward and then two backwards. The good thing is they are both passing their weekly drug tests.

Well, baby girl is leaving next week. The judge decided to place her in the home that adopted her three siblings. She will be missed.
