Unhappy Chest Pains (xx-post)

A couple weeks ago I had a head cold/sinus issues and one night during that week span of feeling awful I had sharp shooting chest pain under my right breast. It was hurting so bad I was honestly scared to fall asleep. I eventually fell asleep from exhaustion and didn't have the chest pain again.......until this past Saturday. DH & I went and did a little Christmas shopping this weekend and I started having the chest pain while standing in line. We walked to the car and it felt good to get some fresh air but after I got into the car I had such a sharp shooting pain it took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes. The only thing that made it feel a little better was pressing really hard in the area it was huritng. My DH wanted to take me to the ER and I told him no lets just go home and maybe if I lie down for a little bit it will go away. It did go away for a while and then when we took DD & DS trick or treating I started having little mild sharp pains off & on. Its been going that way every since. If I turn too quickly, sneeze, cough (to clear my throat) or yawn (which is the worst) I have such a sharp pain I

I've been kind of dealing with it because I have an appt this Wednesday and my sister-in-law thinks its just gas or LO up in that area. My mom thinks it could be some cold still in my chest from being sick a couple weeks ago or maybe even indegestion/heartburn. I really don't think it is any of these things and I know LO is ok because I've been feeling him regularly moving around and kicking and I even felt him have the hiccups for the first time Saturday morning . I don't remember having any sort of chest pains with DD or DS but that was quite a few years ago.

Is anyone else experiencing this pain or know of what may be causing them?

FYI: I am calling my dr today even though I have an appt Wednesday.

Where exactly is the pain? Is it under your ribs on the right side? If so, that could be a sign of pre-E. Have you tried taking tums or anything? Maybe its heartburn. Its possible it could be from your cold but I imagine that would be more of a dull ache rather than a sharp pain. I have had bad acid reflux in the past and it has felt so bad, I've felt like I am having a heart attack so I wouldn't put acid reflux out of the picture either. Hope you feel better.

When I was preggo last time I had gas pains SO bad in my chest that I thought I was having a heart attack! Gas-X really helped me...but it was so scary. They were especially bad when I would take a deep breath.

Not to scare you but the symptoms sound a bit like a collapsed lung....if they don't go away I would go to the doctor ASAP...just to make sure.

Hope you feel better soon!

A pregnant friend of mine had those pains, and found out she has torn a nerve in her rib cage. The baby put so much pressure on her ribs in a certain way that it damaged a nerve and that was causing those shooting pains. It could be a lot of different things so it's important to discuss with your doctor. Most likely you are fine and the baby is fine, but better to be safe than sorry - also there might be an easy fix for the pain and no sense in walking around like that when you could be feeling better.

Thanks for all your concerns everyone .

I called my dr office and the nurse told me to go to the ER. So I went to the ER yesterday afternoon as soon as I got off work. I was only there for about 2 & half hours, which wasn't bad at all. The doctor diagnosed me with COSTOCHONDRITIS.

Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone. It causes sharp pain in the costosternal joint — where your ribs and breastbone are joined by rubbery cartilage. Pain caused by costochondritis may mimic that of a heart attack. (Yes very painful)

and guess what.........there is absolutely nothing that can be done about it because I'm pregnant. Even if I wasn't pregnant all they could do is give me a shot for the swelling and strong pain meds. It goes away on its own. The doctor said its very common in women, especially pregnant women. He said its mainly caused by your joints loosening as your uterus & belly expand to accomodate your growing LO and the cartlidge in that area becomes irritated or inflammed. He said it could stay the rest of the pregnancy or even after I've had the baby. He prescribed me some Tylenol 3, which ofcoarse I can't take during the day or else I'll be drooling on my desk at work. So he said during the day I can take regualr Tylenol to ease the pain. I'm very glad it isn't anything majorly serious but its so painful and I so just want the pain to go away .

It can be that your dehydrate which is very common when your pregnant. It happened to me two days before my baby shower. I was drinking tons of water but, still it didn't matter. It could be heartburn which you are allowed to take tums for that. I had shortness of breath two weeks before I delivered Cody and I do believe I was allergic to something. Update us!
