Default blanket or "lovey" to sleep with? (x-posted in July '09 births)

So Makayla cannot go to sleep without a blanket or her "lovey" (one of those little stuffed animals with a small blankie attached to it). When I put her down, she will fuss and cry until I give her one or the other. It's totally cute, but what she does with it is what worries me. She will take the blanket or blanket part of her lovey and will cover her face with it and that's how she goes to sleep. I'm really worried that she will suffocate herself like this! I watch her during the day as she goes to sleep, and as soon as she's asleep I go over and move it away from her face but I'm getting ready to transition her into the crib in her room (she's been sleeping in the PNP right next to my bed where I can see her from where I lay) and I'm worried that as she's getting older and more mobile that she will hurt herself like this. Anyone else have this problem or any advice? TIA!

K did this since he was about your DD's age. I moved it a lot of times, but the risk of SIDS and such goes way down after 6 months, so I stopped super stressing over it. They are old enough now to move it on their own, or move their head out of the way.

My kids have had blankets from day one. When I lay my youngest DD down, I cover her up to about her chin with the blanket, and she passes out instantly. LOL. She loves being covered up.

Jayden was, and is the same way. He always has been. When he was nursing still he HAD to bury his face in my breast to fall asleep, and then when we stopped he had to bury his face in a blanket. Scared the crap outta me. I took the blankets out of his crib and gave him a small lovey (that Virginia from here made). He couldnt wrap his face in it, and that made me more comfortable. Plus he was able to turn his head.

Could you just get a little blanky that has holes, like a crocheted blanket? That way, oxygen could still get in, etc, but babe would still be able to put it on her face?

Nora did this also. But she moves around so much that it doesn't stay on her face for long.
