Default My girlfriend might be pregnant but I'm not sure.. please help.

Hi, my name is John. I hope I can get some help on this..

Her last period started on September 27. We had sex on October 17. I used a condom, and verified after climax that there was no hole on it or anything. I did have to replace the first one because of a slight premature ejaculation, but I did wipe myself off before putting on a new one. Another thing that could be worrying me is that we got into a bathtub after that.

Until now, her period still hasn't arrived. She isn't experiencing any pregnancy symptoms, except for lower abdominal cramping. It's been three days now that she's feeling this, expecting her period to come, but still nothing. I'm a bit worried.. Do you guys think she's pregnant?

If her last period started on Sept 27, I think you guys are fine unless she ovulates late (around CD 20). With that being said, if you have sex, it is possible to get pregnant so I would encourage your girlfriend to take a pregnancy test to know one way or another.

Good luck!

If I were her, I'd test. She may be stressed out about being pregnant and that stress is affecting her cycle, but she also could be pregnant.

Probably not, but I would have her test if she's late. If its negative and she still doesn't get her period in a weeks time, I would re test.

It is definatly possible to ovulate as late as day 20, I have ovulated a lot later then that before. Does she have a regular cycle...like are her cycles always a certain length? If she is late and cramping, she definatly needs to take a test to find out for sure. Cramping is really common in early pregnancy, I felt like I was going to start my period for weeks every time I have been pregnant. Also, not knowing could be stressing her out enough to delay her period and if she gets a negative on a test, she will probably be able to relax enough that her period will start. let us know how things turn out

I doubt it's implantation. If it was it would be very light like spotting and pink or brown. She probably wouldn't think it was a period.

well.. she did say it was maroon, and that it wasn't out of the ordinary in terms of amount of blood..

but what worries me is that her pelvic area is larger than usual.

bloating is normal during your period. There is a lot of extra blood flow and all the reproductive organs are congested so most women usually gain a pound or two during their period and then lose it towards the end of their period. I wouldn't worry about it. If she was pregnant, she would definatly not be pregnant enough for her to be showing already even if she was having triplets!

there's another issue i'd like to point out while my thread is still active.

while we were having sex, her vagina lips got very big.. as in maybe 5 times larger than usual. this has happened twice already.

does this have to do with anything?

It has nothing to do with pregnancy. Its blood flowing to her labias, which can make them look swollen. She was having pleasure, don't worry.

for a guy you seem to be doing some research.
it is probably her normal flow...if it had been inplantation bleeding it would have occurred not when her period was due...

it is normal to be a little bit late on a period...a few days is not a big deal.

she can always test but it sounds like its aunt flo.

I'm not sure how you would know if her labias never swelled before, unless you always look at her vulva when having sex. Labias can swell during intercouse if she's aroused. Of course, if you're having sex and she isnt' aroused, then they probably wouldnt' swell. Her labias can also swell because it was close to her period, or she was ovulating. Labias don't normally swell in early pregnancy, usually not until water retention happens (which doesn't happen in every pregnancy either) and thats typically not in the first trimester. Her labia swelling is nothing to worry about, I assure you.

Bloating is one of the most common symptoms during a period. Bloating normally happens throughout the entire period and can even last for a few days to a week after the bleeding has stopped. I wouldn't worry at all.

If you do have all these concerns, and you've been togather for 4 years, then you should just talk to her about this. Tell her your concerns and she should be able to explain them to you, way better than anyone on here can because its her body not ours. Every woman is different and things happen to women for different reasons.

^ well we do talk a lot about it. Problem is, she's even more clueless than I am

I do the research because I want to make sure that I'm doing the responsible thing. Not comfortable with the idea that she may be pregnant or she has an STD that I'll just find out about months after it happens.

About the vaginal swelling.. well when we realized it for the first time, it was because she was saying it was starting to hurt. And that never happened before. When I looked, her lips were really huge like something I've not seen before. I mean, we've been together for so long and she's not felt anything like this nor have I seen anything like that before.

So.. I'm not really sure what's causing it because it has happened back to back times..

If her labia is swollen, and she says it hurts, it is probably a yeast infection. I have only had a few in my life and they are painful and do cause swelling. She can get tested at her dr for that, it only takes a few minutes and if that's what it is they will give her some meds to get rid of it. Yeast infections are pretty common and nothing to worry about, but if she is complaining of it hurting she should probably get it checked out...of course if you were having lot's of sex, that can also cause swelling down there and pain.

I agree with this. If you are that worried about it, go out and buy her a pregnancy test then you will know for sure. I think you are worrying over nothing. If she is bleeding, 99.9% chance it's her period and bloating is SOOOOO common during a period. I would actually be MORE suprised if she wasn't bloated during her period and right after.

Sounds like either a yeast infection, which can be diagnosed in a Doctor's office and then treated. Or it could be because of frequent sex. If you have sex a lot it can make some women sore for awhile. If you're afraid of STDs I would strongly encourage the use of condoms and have yourself as well as her checked for them.

we always use condoms. i was actually thinking that the cause might be the condom's lubricant.. i mean, we don't have sex that often.. only around once a week. what are the other possible causes of that yeast infection?

btw i'm very grateful that you guys took the time to respond to my queries.. i really appreciate it

Many things can cause a yeast infection. Diabetes, antibiotics, hormone replacement therapy, injury to the vagina, chemotherapy, etc.

Some women can be sensative to lubrication, so using a non-lubricated condom may be what is right for her. If she has burning or itching when she pees after using a lubricated condom, then she's probably allergic to it or sensative to it.

There are great books out there that your g/f could read so she could better understand her body so when something is out of the ordinary she doesn't panic. Taking Charge of Your Fertility is an excellent book for women to learn about their body and what the changes mean.

This. Also you can google 'what causes yeast infections' and it will pull up a bunch of sites with lots of info about symptoms, casues and treatments. If it is a yeast infection, it is a good idea for you to be treated as well, as you can have the bacteria, and pass it back to her after she has gotten rid of it.

ok.. last question. it's already after her period and her lower abdomen is still bloated.. like it looks like there's a significant lump there but above that, it's just flat. i know that this is probably normal, but i just wanna be sure.. coz its not her stomach that's bloating, it's her pelvic area.

Pelvic area can be bloated aswell, soemtimes it takes days after a period has ended to be completely normal again. If she's worried just go to the Doctor. She should go get checked for a yeast infection if she suspects that.

Just wondering if she has taken a test and if all is well with you and your gf? Nice to see a guy who has done his research!
