I am a new working mom and don't like being away from my baby boy, but a big part of me is willing to sacrifice being a sahm so I can stay at home when our #2 arrives (FX in 1.5yrs). It will be weird being a SAHM and hopefully we can do it if we plan the next year or so well enough. Feeling conflicted is normal for me nowadays

I don't feel guilty about working, or leaving DS with either DH or daycare. I know he's well taken care of and his needs are met.
BUT what brings me to tears is thinking of him "bonding" with the daycare lady. He's only there 5 hours a day and with DH the rest of the time I'm at work so it's a good set up. I'm generally a big supporter of daycare for developmental reasons. OK, maybe I'm psycho... but I cried the day the daycare lady told me he smiled for her. He had only started smiling for ME 3 days earlier. Random thoughts of DS liking her more than me. Psycho, I know... (I'm over it now tho!!) |

I don't feel guilty at all. I took 4 months maternity leave and then he was with my mom (who lives down the street from me) until he was 1 year. At that time he started the daycare at my work (wonderful, I love them and so does he!).
My mom was a SAHM and she loved every minute of it, but I am not my mom. I too think that I am a better mom during the time I do spend with him than if I was with him at home all day long. And that's just me, not anyone else. It's who I am. I enjoy my job and my co-workers very much and that helps a lot. |
