Default Medical billing from home

Does anyone do this? I know there are a LOT of scams out there, but that it can be done legitmately. I also know that initially you don't make very much money...but I don't know how much. I currently teach preschool in the mornings for $8/hour, so it's not like I'm rolling in dough as it is.

Does anyone do this? What can you tell me about it?

Kate, if no one here does, you can try www.wahm.com in the forum. They're pretty good about posting good opportunities, scams, info, etc. I've gotten on w/some writing sites they recommended for extra income.

I know there is money to be made...I think its just hard to get into it. I had a neighbor that did it. She had a set 6-2 schedule and made about $40k. She had been doing it for about 4 years at that time. I was interested in it too....she told me the hardest thing was getting started. All the companies want experience and its hard to get it.

I also know someone that does this on her own. She doesnt use an online company or whatever. She took billing courses at the local community college and then went to the hospitals and Dr offices nearby and pretty much contracts herself out to do the billing for them. She is doing very well.

I think that medical billing is like everything, there are ways to make money...you just have to find the right way Good Luck!

I did this in office but not from home. If you do this be wary of what Dr's you do it for. If you have a pokey, absentminded Dr (or whatever) it can be war to get all the information you need to do your job. I had to repeatedly ask for the diagnostic codes.

There was a card for this in one of the pregnancy folders I got during my childbirth education classes being held at the hospital I'm delivering at.
It's through U.S. Career Institute School of Medical Studies.
Contact information was 1-800-388-8765 dept pnsb2a49

It claims training takes 4-18 months depending on your schedule. Good luck!

Getting jobs in the billing industry is getting harder because they are switching over to computerized billing in the medical world. I was going to class to be medical transcription/medical admin unfortunately due to circumstances in life I couldnt finish but my best friend in class who did cant get a job...then again as long as your not in michigan youd probably do better getting a job. go to the community college or a place like Everest due to the fact that alot of stuff will have you asking LOTS of questions!
