They answered so many questions that I had-it was a great learning experience (which I really hope I will not need!)

Aww Flynn, do no worry. The IUI is NOTHING like an HSG! It is a tiny little period cramp for 2 seconds when the catheter goes in and it's over.
Good luck tomorrow and take it easy all weekend!!

Hi everyone, it helps a lot to read your posts...I'm hoping for success for all of you!!

I just had my second IUI this afternoon, and unfortunately, my cervix would not open up enough for the doctor to get up high with the catheter...Has anyone else ever had this happen? My cervix opened up just fine for my first IUI in June... I'm wondering what the possible reasons for this to happen are...Was I too nervous? Was it the time of day? Is it something to do with the trigger shot?

Thanks for reading, and take care all of you!

    Question

    hey girls, i missed you!
i use the ovulation sticks that come with seven in a box, because i usually o around the same time i can stretch them out.

i need your help, its supposed to be my last month to try, and tuesday was my last day (cd-9) but i got a killer headache on tuesday and forgot about my med. I didnt even think about it til yesterday and when i called the obs office they said not to take the last one, do you think i'll still o? its supposed to be my last month to try before i have to go on my ms medicine, my dh says why dont we wait til January for the ms meds but i dont know.

On the upside i figured out why we were having trouble in the BD department. Apparently it was too much pressure on him? I dont know but thats what he made it sound like so we really made a breakthrough in our communication, awesome!

Amandagirl: Still praying for you and the rest of the girls here.

    Hi Sarah,

I too had the same experience with my 2nd IUI on 06/30. They could not get the cathater through, it would go half way and then stop, doc explained to me that it is normal, because the cervix has a curve to it and sometimes they had to force it through, which I found pretty painful, I dod not like it all. I also had a trigger shot (Ovidrel) for my 2 IUI, but not for the 1st one. And also 1st one they did not have trouble putting it through, maybe it has something to do with the drug. I did not even think about that.

    Hope this helps,

Thank you, MzCrisp...I was becoming obsessive thinking of all the reasons there might be for that to happen... My doctor said, "I don't want to hurt you," and she did not force it through...She has been through infertility herself, so I'm guessing she knew it would hurt and didn't want to hurt me... It's interesting how each doctor does it differently.

I see that you are having a tube dye test next cycle - Is that the same thing as a hysterosalpingogram, where the doctor injects dye up through the uterus and the fallopian tubes?

    Thanks again,
    Sarah

    Default IVF Numbers

to all. I could not have gotten through this process without all of you girls. I cannot wait to see each of you get that BFP, so I'm sticking around, if you don't mind.

Okay, I also thought I'd make this post for you, b/c I was making myself crazy trying to look for this info in everyone's different posts. And b/c I know some of you are as obsessive as I am!

    IVF Protocol: Long/Luteal Phase Lupron

    Start BCP on CD3
20 of Lupron last 3 days of pills, continuing to next CD3 (9 days for me)
    Stims: 225 Gonal-F and 75 Menopur (12 days)
Trigger on stim day 12, 10,000 hcg
    ER 36h after trigger

    Levels/Follicles/Lining:

    CD3: E2 under 20, 10 antral follicles
    CD6: E2 of 82, 11 antral follicles, 4.5mm lining
    CD8: E2 of 228, 1 measurable follie left, 3 right, 7mm lining
    CD10: E2 of 507, 4 measurable follies left, 5 right, 11mm lining
    CD12: E2 of 1058, 4 left, 6 right, 10.7mm lining
    CD13: E2 of 1625, 5 left, 12 right, 11.3 mm lining
CD14: Last night of stims (booster) and trigger!

    ER Report:

26 retrieved, 20 mature, 6 fertilized normally (either DH has super sperm or my girls are slutty, b/c 8 were fertilized abnormally - meaning by more than one sperm ) and 6 did not fertilize

    Day 3:

2 grade one embies, 3 progressing and the last not looking good

    Day 5:

Congratulations malf!!! Sending sticky dust to you....

Anyways I have already started my IVF program today. I did my own first shot (I was so scared that my hands went jello so I had to inject slowly). RE put me on 50 units of Suprefact Buserelin which is suppose to "put my ovaries to sleep" for the next 2 weeks. Is this the usual medication? I have just ovulated 2 days ago and I'm CD23 today but according to RE, once I started the meds, my cycle will be off. He also said I will have my last period in the next 2 weeks. Any info on what I should be expecting next would be appreciated!

Hi! Like Lana, I will be starting my first round of clomid in the next couple of weeks. I am supposed to take the clomid days 3-7 and then come in on day 12-14 for a transvaginal ultrasound then hcg trigger..... I am wondering what the rationale would be to do OPK testing? Will it help anything if I am already getting the US and then a trigger? I have been instructed to have "timed intercourse" at 24 and 48 hours post trigger..... Interested in hearing others thoughts on this. Thanks!

Amandagirl and mistyms thank You for your replies. I am now on day 3 of clomid and I just have crazy mood swings and hot flashes. My dr wants to try this for two months then try it with insemination has anyone tried this before. I really am new to this so I am not sure what half of the language is about. The only thing I have tried (preclomid) was the hsg test and the other twentysomething blood test that seems to go along with this journey. We also tried using the ov watch and it did not work for DH and I
    Thanks,

Jess-Good luck with the adoption process! I am happy that you guys have been accepted!!

I will also be joining you ladies this month! After 16 months of STC, we are moving into our 17th month and have decided to try IUI!

Where do I start....I'll try and make it short and sweet....

2000-Dx with high blood pressure at age 20

    2003-Married

2005-stopped taking BCP (for medical reasons)

2007 (April)-Decided since I was graduating from nursing school that we would finally start our family and suspected that we might have problems based on the fact that my mom had problems getting pg and that I had not gotten pg after being off the pill of 2.5 yrs

2007 (Sept) thought maybe I had PCOS- NP said no way and that everyting is fine-but wait I have a family hx, I have high BP and never had zits til I stopped taking BCP and.....etc. etc...

2007(Dec)-New OB-did some testing in January 08, possible Dx poor ovarian reserve (I was devastated with this Dx of course) but she wanted to try Clomid for 3 months then do HSG and ? RE referral. She and an OB I work with did not think I had PCOS either (so that made 3) I just knew that I could not have POR...I was responding to Clomid...if you have POR you don't respond to it....mmm just b/c I'm thin don't disregard me as a PCOS pt! D@MNIT!!

2008 (Feb-April)-50mg Clomid-Ovulated on all 3 cycles. In April I decided enough was enough and we sent to see our wonderful RE!!! and guess what....He dx me with mild or atypical PCOS on our first visit based on my history .Oh and DH's S/A-A-OK!!

2008 (May)-Started taking fordamet (metformin) 1000mg daily, 2.5 mg femara CD4-8 and did trigger on CD14. ( I also take BP meds and prenatals daily). HSG ..OUCHY! But I passed 1 super folly and good endo

2008 (June)-Same meds except no trigger (O'd before U/S), trilaminar endo
2008 (July) - same meds except increased femara to 5mg and we did trigger on CD12 and I had TWO follies! Not just one!!!!! and trilaminar endo
    2008(August) Same meds and IUI

Ummm that pretty much sums it up...sorry I could not make it shorter

I do have a question though! So how does BD work with IUI? We should save up the swimmers before IUI right? How many days 2...3? Our plan is if I have a +opk on CD12 to do the IUI on CD13, so that would be August 4th.

Okay, well thanks ladies and good luck to all of you who have had your IUI's and are waiting to test and good luck to those who are about to embark on this journey with me (man that sounded corney) again or for the first time

Good luck on your IUI this month. I hope it brings you your bfp.

Save up the swimmers for at least 2 days, but no more than 5. My protocol was injections day 2-7, u/s on day 8 and trigger that night if everything looked good, and IUI two days later. With that protocol, we used to bd on day 7 which gave us a good window for IUI cd 10-12.

After 3 years of TTC, my twins were conceived using IUI with Follistim and HCG trigger shot on our first round of injectibles. I tried Clomid prior to the injectibles with no success. I am planning on trying again this cycle using the same meds and donor. I am due to start any day now. My DH and I used a donor due to the fact that he has polycystic kidney disease and there was a 50/50 chance of passing it on. We did inseminations at home prior to the IUI. Best of luck to everyone!

You girls are just the best for hunting me down!! I haven't dared to post anywhere but here yet. I'm just thinking sticky thoughts until I see my next two betas this week and praying this little peapod sticks around. :pray: I think if I see two doubling betas I'll feel good about posting.

mspy, YAY for starting!! Those first shots are the scariest but you will be a PRO soon! I have not heard of the drug you mentioned, but the purpose sounds like what I used lupron for - "shutting down." If it's a similar drug, the only side effect I had was elevated temps. Hope yours goes just as simply! How long until you start stimming? Soooo exciting!

Xevy/Michelle I can't believe how similar my story is to yours! Married 2003, went back to school in 2005 graduated 2007 so time to REALLY start trying. Knew I would need help getting pg so went off the pill a while back. Started 50mg of Clomid, although it didn't work for me the 100mg is doing the trick and hopefully the IUI this month should be what we need to finally move on. I feel like since we've been married so long we're expected to have kids by now and it's getting harder and harder to toss out the excuse of "we're just not ready yet..."

Good Luck to you in August! We plan on waiting 2 days prior to IUI.

Did my second shot today. Yesterday it hurt when i injected very slowly so today I was so nervous that I injected faster which hurt even more! I will inject at a moderate rate tomorrow and hopefully I become a pro soon so that the jabs doesn't hurt anymore.

Malf, yes I was suprise too because I read most ladies took Lupron and when I check my meds, it reads Buserelin. I've search on the internet and apparently it does the same thing, which is shutting down the ovaries. But i read somewhere it is use to treat prostate cancer too. This was the 1st information I look up on the internet (use to treat prostate cancer) and I was thinking RE couldn't have given me wrong meds! But i read longer and deeper and find that it does the same function as Lupron.

Sorry i'm not so familiar with some of the terminalogy but i guess what you meant by "stimming" is stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple follicle? According to RE, I will be on Buserelin for 2 weeks and I guess the stimming will start after 08/08/2008 (the day i'm suppose to go back to the clinic plus its OLYMPICS!). I also heard from the nurses that i'll need double jabs (Buserelin + FSH????) for another 2 weeks (double ouch!) when I start stimming. I can't wait until my retrieval and transfer which is late august (27th Retrieval and 29th Transfer). Those are estimated dates. It's good that its late aug so I don't have to be home bound on DH's birthday and my birthday (we are exactly 6 days apart august babies!). At first I thought the program could be completed way before our bdays so we can know if we are successful (that would be biggest present ever if it's a BFP!!!!) but doc told me to home rest for 2 weeks (i can't leave the house but i'll still need to work from home!) after the transfer. I will need all the support I can then because it's tough being home bound for so long especially when you are out every other day!

    Question

Well ladies you know( based on all my posts) how obsessed I have been in finding out why my Grade AA embies haven't been implanting, well i'm reading an excellent book on Chinese Fertility medicine while charting my BBT. To cut a long story short I found a chart that looks exactly like mine and apparently one of the side effects of chlomid with women with my menstral cycle is that it produces excessive amounts of hormones that prevent implantation even with the healthiest of embies. Hopefully on monday my acupunturist will confirm this and we can start treating my symptoms so that I can get my next cycle in before I have to do another chlomid challenge. I will also ask if there are any western medicine tests to prove this theory and let you girls know the output. Sorry its the analytical side of me that drives even my RE potty.
Hopefully this is just frustrating news ( better late than never) but the correct treatment will give the BFG I know is hiding in me somewhere.

Finn, the only reason I can think of for using an OPK would be to catch a surge before your U/S. I just did a round of IUI w/Clomid + a trigger. With Clomid my O has moved up a day or two from before, so CD14 on the U/S would be too late. Good Luck!

Lana, I did 2 cycles of Clomid w/o success and this cycle we did IUI + Clomid. The only reason was just on the off chance that this issue is coming from the sperm not getting where they need to go. It increases the odds of getting pg, but is more expensive so dr's usually give just Clomid a few tries first. Good Luck!

    Michelle,

Good Luck, I hope IUI does the trick for you! This was my first cycle of IUI, but here's what we did: BD CD11, U/S CD12, told to trigger that night. IUI CD14. BD CD15 just to cover all the bases...I was pretty sure I would do IUI CD14 b/c that is when i usually ovulate so we planned accordingly...my DH's count was really good after taking a couple days off. Finger's crossed for the next 14 days.

Thanks everyone! I do remember reading about not going more than 5 days b/c the spermies get old (that goes for BD too)!

Lisa & Bluebird-Good luck this cycle ladies!

Flynn08- Baby dust to you! Will they do any early pg testing for you or are they making you go threw the dreaded 2ww?

I do have another question!! The last two cycles I have O'd on CD13. One was w/o the trigger and last month it was with the trigger. I seem to O or have more O pains in the am. As long as we do the IUI the day of O I know that is okay. Infact that is what they aim for right? So, I guess my question is do I still need to trigger the night before just to make sure? My protocol is to use the OPK on Sunday CD12 (a week from today) and if it is + to call the office and then someone will call me back to set up the IUI for Monday. Perhaps I should just call them tomorrow and ask!!! Sorry....I am new to this IUI business! I am guessing that if I have not O'd by CD13 (I do have an appt scheduled for that am just in case I do not get a +OPK) they will give me a script to trigger that night.

Thanks again ladies!! Good luck everyone!
