    Angry Is that ALL??!!!!

My mom asked how much weight I've gained---since I've had trouble with it and when I said (somewhat happily), "oh, 6 pounds!" Because honestly, they've been hard earned pounds! She said with shock, alarm and mom's-a-nurse-so-listen-up seriousness "Is that ALL?!!"

Sigh. I've doing everything I can. All my measurements are right on schedule. I'd even expect now and then to measure a day or two behind or ahead, but I'm always on the dot with my due date. My midwives aren't concerned. I don't know what else to do or if I should even do anything different.

Am I in denial? I know my weight gain is way below average but if I'm not sick and my measurements are good, is that really an issue?

Weight gain is different for everyone! Some people gain a lot quickly, some people spend their whole pregnancy vomiting and how can you gain weight if you're throwing everything up? I wouldn't worry if your midwives aren't worried.

Stepping in because about almost 3 years ago I was in your situation. I was overweight for my height when pregnant with Sophia at 5'1'' 168 even my ob/gyn wanted me to gain at least 15 pounds to 30 which with how short I was would have put me in the obese category . So my mom at that time had the same question for me at 20 weeks I had gained 0 weight. It was not on purpose I ate when I was hungry. :shrugs: That's all you can do eat when you are hungry and if the midwife doesn't care tell your mom they aren't concerned that its only been 6 pounds. I did everything I could to eat healthy fats to gain weight but, nothing helped I gained 5 pounds but, that was short lived when I had a diet for gestational diabetes and I lost the 5 pounds I gained and then some I was 3 pounds less than at my first OB appointment it was not intentional at all. On the flip side with Cody I gained 50 pounds and surprisingly enough I did not have GD. Our bodies do some strange things sometimes and each and every pregnancy is different.

Stop worrying. I only gained 6 pounds too and no one tells me that it is not enough or should be more. My midwife and nutrition specialist were a little concerned when I lost another 3 pounds because of the diet for gestational diabetes but as I gained them back (and didn't put on more weight) no one said anything. Your bean gets what she needs as long as your diet is balanced out and I now that you give your best to take care of you and your baby. So, if you don't have signs of vitamin or mineral deficiency you have nothing to worry about. Right now I'm just happy to lose the ten extra pounds I couldn't get rid of over the last couple of years try to do the same (if you had those extra pounds).

I think you're okay.... So are you already on the lean side? You still have around 11 weeks!!! That is so much preggo time and a lot of baby growth to add to weight.

I think 6lbs is fine . I know lots of women on both ends of the spectrum...some gain a lot and some don't. If baby is on track with growth and you're not overtly ill (chronic diarrhea/vomiting, etc...) and able to eat well then I wouldn't worry at all, especially if your care-providers aren't worried.

If you were starting to look skeletal, lol, I'd be like "Ahem, Natalie, SEE A DOCTOR!!!", but nope, I think you look perfect

Eta...if you're worried, adding 300cals to your diet wouldn't hurt, especially before bed. Some ideas: a 4oz lean steak, 1slice whole wheat toast w/ 2T nut butter, 1/3c hummus on rice cakes, greek yogurt w/ 1/4c granola, small bowl of whole grain cereal w/ milk, 2oz cheese with some crackers, cottage cheese w/ pineapple, banana w/ peanut butter, 1C beef or lentil stew (I love pacific and imagine brand soups) w/ crackers, a small dish of mac n' cheese (we love Amy's organic) etc...

My 1st pregnancy I gained 25 lbs and always measured on track. My 2nd pregnancy, I gained a grand total of 13 lbs and I felt like I was eating constantly. Again, always measured right on track. I don't think you have anything to worry about! If your baby wasn't growing well, that would be a whole different story. It's so easy to second guess yourself when someone makes a comment. When I was almost full term with both, in the same day I'd get a comment about how small my belly was, and another that would say I was freakin' huge!

With all of my pregnancies I have gained 20-25lbs. With my first I lost nearly 12lbs in the beginning. Don't stress about it! I fully believe that you gain what your body needs you to gain. My cousin has gained 60lbs and isn't due until July. She started out 30 lbs under weight. I wouldn't stress if I were you.

I think the people that are all freak out over your 6lb weight gain are probably just jealous about it.

My high estimate of what I gained with the release 30# & with my oldest I gained 16. I just don't gain when pregnant & mine all came out decent size & weight for gestation. If you haven't yet, add in an Ensure or two a day. It really helps.
