Default CDC recommends getting Tdap during third trimester

    http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/...gnancy-hcp.htm

Just wanted to pass the info along.

Having had a 7wk old hospitalized because of life-threatening complications from pertussis I will be getting this one. I know not everyone feels comfortable with vax during pg which is understandable, but ever since my dd was hospitalized I've often wondered if pertussis could be prevented in babies who are too young to be vaxed by vaxing the pg moms...apparently it can be .

Tdap is one of the vaxes that still have brands with Thiomersal so just check with your provider to make sure that's not the one they would be offering you.

In the article it states that the vax given to pg women does not contain thimersol .

eta...It actually states that *none* of the current dtap or tdap vax used in the US have thimersol.

Ok I didn't read it, just know from the FDA list that Tdap and Flu vaxes (some brands) still use it.

I heard this, too, but forgot to ask about it when I was in the third trimester. I think that it is a great idea and do hope that it helps protect newborns.

FDA article stating that thimersol has been removed or reduced to trace amounts in all childhood vax in the US (except some flu formulations)...it even includes a chart listing which ones still contain trace amounts of thimersol and at what concentrations:

I got it and baby will get the pertussis vac too. Whooping cough runs rampant here being a college town. I will not risk it.
