Thread: New shots this IUI

    Default New shots this IUI

    Hi ladies,

Okay RE just called and here is the treatment plan for this month.

    Clomid cd 3-7
Prevelle shots cd 4,6,8,10 (not sure what this is)
HCG trigger cd??? Determined based on scan
IUI (FSP) if timing is right??? Based on scans
Progesterone cd 16-29?? Based on timing

Now, RE stressed, if we bd after cd 6, we need to wear protection??? I am not sure why? He said we don't want an octomom! Can anyone shed light on why that is the case. I mean, wouldn't we want to bd as much as possible? Also why does it matter if we are doing IUI? Thanks for your help!

The RE is worried you'll have too many eggs and wind up with higher order multiples. If you have too many eggs they'll cancel the cycle. If you're having unprotected sex, too late to cancel the cycle! So use condoms until you see how many eggies you have growing. Once they decide to go ahead with the cycle for sure, you can stop using protection.

Hmmm, I wonder why they are adding the Bravelle since last month, I had 3 good size follies. DH has really poor sperm counts and motility, but this wouldn't help that process right? I am so confused. Thanks for your help Gwenn!!

I guess they figure more means more chances for his spermies to get to the egg. I don't know ... I usually had 2-4 good sized follies and my doctor never suggested injectables with me because he figured I respond okay to the meds. Then again, I'm not too thrilled with my doctor right now anyway, so don't go off my experience!

Hmm, adding the injectibles seems odd to me. I only ever get one follie and my RE still won't let me do them. We did six cycles of Clomid to get DS and am starting my third Clomid cycle tomorrow for baby #2. This will be my last Clomid cycle. If I had three follies off of Clomid, I (and my RE) would be over the moon.

Maybe ask your dr? But they also saw your follies, so they know more than us!

I think that what Gwenn said about the protection is the reason. GL this cycle!

How many IUI's have you done...was this last one on Clomid your first?

If you had 3 mature follies on Clomid why would your RE want to up your meds...that is crazy aggressive, unless you have been trying with meds and ultrasounds for quite a while. You would be asking for too many follies, then your choice would be risk a high order multiples pregnancy, or skip your IUI and be out all the money you spent on meds and monitoring.

IMO I would either give Clomid another try, or skip the Clomid and just do a low dose of injectables....I would not double up.

    Good luck!

Thanks ladies. I agree with you all that this sounds crazy aggressive and what is even more confusing is that DH has the counts and poor morphology. I am not blaming him, but wondering how increasing my meds would increase our odds?

Tripmomma, I was on clomid last cycle (50mg) and trigger shot with post IUI progesterone. I did tell the RE that I wanted to be as aggressive as possible, but not to get canceled or multiples. I just want one healthy baby and momma! I am so confused. I have already paid for the meds too. Can I hold on to them or are they bad after one month? I feel so ignorant on the topics I am speaking about. Sorry ladies! Thanks for your help!

I have never used Bravelle before but most injectables have a shelf life of a year, if stored properly...in the fridge usually. Clomid can also be kept, cool and dark but not fridge, for months and months too.

I think since you are responding great to meds...you do NOT want more than 3 mature follies, that is about as close to perfect as you can get, I would just stick to one med. Your Doc works for you, tell him your concerns and what you want to do and I am sure he will not have a problem.

Best of luck to you. I totally get being confused about the meds. I've only ever taken Clomid so I can imagine being intimidated by all the other ones getting thrown in!

Update: so I am only taking 75iu Bravelle for CD 4,6,8,10. RE is hoping to get 6 good follies. He said if there are more than 6, they will cancel the IUI. I am hoping this is our month. Fingers crossed this all works out. Thanks for all of your input. I will keep you all posted.

6? That seems like an awful lot, to be honest.

I don't think they are as nervous bc of DH's sperm count and motility. I mean, last month we had 4 good looking follies and ended up with BFN. Do you guys really think 6 is too many? Even with DH's low sperm count, morphology and motility.

DH's stats are probably the reason. My DH has supersperm I think so just hearing that number made me nervous. Even with supersperm, though, I've had 3 eggs and gotten a BFN.

Yeah, I want to be more aggressive. We are paying out of pocket and we only have 2 IUIs left and one IVF. After that, we are done. So I really hope this cycle works for us. Thanks Gwenn!!!

    What are your DH's stats?

Yes, I think 6 is nuts....especially when you have only done 1 IUI. We deal with limited sperm, donor samples come in vials of 10-15mil...motility is good, and my RE cancels me if I have more than 3 mature follies.

He ended up with post wash of 5 million and 75% motility. He has low morph with only 2% normal. RE thinks that we will have low chances of conceiving through IUI. You ladies are making me nervous now. I am on low dose of Bravelle too. Hmmm, now you ladies have me re-thinking things.

Well his stats are low, that does explain the RE OKing so many follies. I would still be concerned, but you have to go with your gut. Good luck, hopefully you get a healthy bean to stick around very soon!!

Have they tried prescribing Clomid for your DH? I've heard that for men, it can improve their swimmers.

Thanks ladies! I will check into clomid and ask about that. Any other ideas for increasing sperm counts and morphology? We did order him some Fertilaid. Hopefully that helps too.

Zinc and Vitamin C are two that I've heard were good for swimmers, but I'm not sure about the dosage. It was sooo long ago when I read that.
