My DD wheezes all the time

Has anyone had a little one that wheezes or makes loud raspy breathing and not been sick? She's been like this since she was born but in the last few weeks it has gotten louder and my husband is freaking out. I text messaged our pedi and video of her and he thought it sounded "croupy" and had me bring her in. He gave her a look over and listened to her lungs and decided to give her a dose of oral decadron (steroid) mixed with motrin and said she should be less raspy by bedtime that evening (Friday.) She was actually worse Friday and yesterday (Sat) she was worse than the previous day and was up all night. I have her sleeping in her infant carseat so she is inclined because in her crib she crawls all over and I can't prop a certain end up to help.

My DH is worrying she has CF but it doesn't run in either of our families.

I listened to the video but, I don't have any idea. Have they ruled out Asthma? That would be very nerve wracking.

That's not asthma, it's on the expiration not inspiration, so it is from her larynx.voice box, not her lungs. Google laryngomalacia. It is harmless and she will grow out of it. (If that's what it is, I can't tell from the video.) If she went to a pediatric ENT they could look down there (probably without anesthesia) and tell you for sure what's going on. But if it were anything bad she would not be as adorable and developmentally appropriate and growing as well as she is, so you can probably tell your husband to not freak out.

Thanks Tapir...interesting that she has GERD (and milk/soy/egg protein intolerance which can worsen GERD) and its common to have them together. I will ask the pedi about this--I was thinking he would refer us to a specialist since he's tried to figure it out and sort of striking out. My DH is so paranoid since its gotten worse the last few days that he wanted her to be in the same room as me at night because he thought she would stop breathing at night.

Oh my goodness...that's *exactly* what Adam sounds like...identical! I have a video for the dr...his appt is Thurs.

He also has gerd and multiple intolerances (MFPI). Milk, soy, egg, dairy, corn, wheat, and citrus are the biggest offenders. I intro-ed wheat at 11months and it got *much* worse.

After googling, I was thinking laryngomalacia too . My only concern was that he snores a lot too and I'd like to ask the pedi her thoughts on sleep apnea.

I can't view the video but I'm glad that by me posting I was able to possibly help you too! It's hard when your little one does something that would normally cause concern but seems to be a regular thing and they are not "struggling" or seem to be, at least.

I hope you get some answers on Thursday at his appointment!

Sounds exactly like what my co-workers grandson sounds like and has since birth. His is because his reflux. Once they got his med to where it needed to be, it got better. But it does get worse once in a while. He'll be 7 mos tomorrow.

Hugs. I MISS YOU!!!! I can't believe how fast she is changing and growing, it's making me sad.

Interesting because we are still tweaking her reflux meds and recently just split the daily dose in half and are giving half in the morning and half at night because she is breaking through at night and miserable.

What is she on for GERD?

She is on Lansoprazole 3mg/ml susp 150ml. She takes 2.5ml twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. She weighed 15.8 on 3/8 at the pedi's office.

The pedi GI just told me when she wakes up crying at night to give her mylanta supreme to help her reflux symptoms. They said we can give her 3ml every 4 hours but it has to be 2 hours before or after her prevacid.

We've tried Zantac and also prilosec but neither of those worked. She was breast fed until almost 6 months when she was hospitalized due to milk/soy/egg protein intolerance. She's on neocate infant formula now but still waking every 1-2 hours to get a bottle. This mama is tired!! haha.


ETA: Previously she was on the prevacid and taking 4ml once in the morning. So they actually increased her dose and split it into 2 doses.
