I am embarrassed to say to my doctor, 'so I searched my itching and stool issues on the internet and came up with a WebMD diagnosis....' Not sure that would go over well! But seriously, I have been scratching enough to make my husband upset at night and after oatmeal baths and benedryl didn't help, I broke my own rule and googled it. ((Don't we all know that never ends well! When will I learn my lesson!)
Here's the lowdown:
Friday my feet started itching like crazy. I told my husband 'I think we have fleas or something cause my feet itch!' He said maybe athlete's foot? And recommended I pour vinegar on my feet. Tried that, still itching. Then it seemed to get a little better until Saturday night when I was waking up scratching my feet against the covers. UGH. I was convinced I had picked up a foot disease in the locker room at the Y. But then the sides of my hands started to itch, and my shins and scalp. Night before last I tossed and turned waking up time and again to find my unconsious self scratching. Last night wasn't near as bad, very mild but still vague itchies all around.
I never call my doc, since this is my 5th pregnancy I know what's up and don't worry about stuff, kwim? But day before yesterday I broke down and called the nurse. Kind of laughed and told her that silly as it is my feet itch so bad I need to know what the doc recommends I take to ease it and asked if she'd ever heard of it. 'No' she laughed 'that's a new one! Try benedryl and an oatmeal bath.' (PS I adore her but having already tried those things I felt a little helpless)
Then came the googling (why oh why do we google things!!) and all I keep seeing is 'cholestasis'. Has anyone ever heard of it? Have any experience to share? Advice?
