    Default Malachi's Surgery is Tomorrow

Malachi will have his biopsy done tomorrow morning at 8:50 am and we are to get there at 7:30 am. He might not even need an IV since the procedure will be very quick. He does have a runny nose (which both of my kids have had for months) which is fine as long as there is no fever and no productive cough.

So, hopefully we'll know what this mass is later this week. Here is a portion of his CT scan results talking about this mass for those who are curious:

"There is a large mass, probably a lymph node, in the left upper jugular chain region (level 2). This is in between the sternocleidomastoid muscle and carotid sheath structures. There is partial effacement of the internal jugular vein (subtotally effaced at the C3-C4 level, but patent throughout its course). The mass appears homogeneous with no evidence of calcification or necrosis. It measures 3.8 x 2.6 cm obliquely on axial image 19 (series 3). The vertical span is about 4.8 cm."

It makes some sense to me.

Thank you all. We are debating if we should wake him up early to hydrate him. He usually drinks a ton of water in the morning.

Malachi is in surgery and they will do a frozen prep right away to see if there is a reason to just take the whole thing out and to make sure they have enough sample. They might know what it is right then but official results will take several days. The doctor will let us know any preliminary results when she talks to me post surgery.

We are home! The preliminary results are that this is a reactive lymph node. Nothing else showed up on the frozen sample prep. The sample will still be sent everywhere for testing and we should know definitively in the next few days. The testing might even tell us what his lymph node is reacting to and we might be able to then treat the reaction.

She did say that removal would be fairly complicated if we ended up needing to do that. It would take a large incision, dissection and caution since it is touching a blood vessel. She said that it is still quite large which is still unusual.

So glad to hear that preliminary testing did not show anything abnormal! Praying that you continue to get good results and he won't need any further surgery!
