    Default Our Big U/S!

So we actually had our u/s last week but didn't get around to posting about it yet. We found out we are having another boy! I was a little disappointed at first -- I think I wanted a girl more than I realized. But now I have had a week to get used to the idea and I am really excited for Derek to have a little brother. I hope the two of them are good friends because they will be close in age. And I am just so excited that we are having another baby, I can't wait to meet him!

Everything looked great on the u/s, but the OB said she had to point out these two little areas of increased fluid next to the brain, which could point to an increased risk of Down's if there were other factors too. But baby did not have the other risk factors so she thinks everything will probably be fine. I go back at 24 weeks for another scan to see if the fluid is down. Has anyone else experienced this before? She said it is pretty common and almost never leads to a problem, but I can't help worrying a bit.

Were they cysts? They start with a p but I can't recall the name right now. My DS had two of those and I was told that sometimes babies with those cysts have genetic disorders. They went away and I have a normal two year old. The more I looked into the research of those cysts, it is likely that we all have those cysts in our brains from time to time (or maybe permanently).

    Congrats on another boy!

Thanks ladies! I have decided just not to worry because there is nothing I can do about it anyway. Time to focus on getting ready for our new little man!

Congrats on a boy. I feel similarly to you. I wanted a girl more than I realized, too. I automatically assumed our baby was a girl, as did hubby.

Hopefully the fluid is nothing serious, especially since you have no other signs pointing to Downs. I hope Derek will be very fond of his baby brother. The older of my two younger brothers wanted to throw the younger one away when he was born, but they became inseperable. I think they were as close in age as your two will be and people constantly thought they were twins.

Aw! Katie, congrats on another little boy. I hope they will be best buddies forever. Sounds like you were able to take a step back worrying about the fluid. How could a mama not worry a little bit about it? Hope the weeks pass quickly and you get definitive answers at your next scan.
