    Default My first appt!

Had my first appointment today. They took us back to the office for medical history and consent for various prenatal testing. Then we went to the gyne room where they checked my cervix, uterus, and did additional screenings for cystic fibrosis and std's. Cervix and uterus are great but she couldn't hear a heartbeat. She assured us that before 12 weeks there's only a 50% chance of hearing something. However, she brought in a portable ultrasound machine and we got to see the baby and the heartbeat! It was awesome! Now I have to go have blood drawn today and then finger pricked on Friday for all of the screenings. I have another ultrasound on the 20th for the genetic testing. One thing I didn't like..... She wrote AMA (advanced maternal age) on my chart!

Yay for a great appt! I'm joining you in the AMA category. They just try to scare you with that label. This will be my second baby being AMA.

Sounds like a great appointment! I'm so glad you got reassurance with an u/s. I'm also joining you in the AMA category. It was a little scary hearing that this time.

The u/s was the coolest thing. It was the size of the Doppler and looked like a flip phone. Flipped up the screen and there was the baby! It was small but so awesome.

Great news! Congrats! I thought I was going to be advanced maternal age too, not sure if the MD marked it down (probably best I didn't see haha)
