    Default Britt's Birth Story

Sorry it has taken me a few days! I am just loving on this sweet baby and trying to get a little caught up from the time in the hospital! Girls, she is so precious! Is down to 5 lbs 5 oz as of yesterday morning so we were so thankful last night that my milk came in! She is nursing like a little pro and I expect to see an increase at her checkup in the morning. Soooo here's how it went down...

I had this awful miserable Sunday night. I was throwing up all night and had a nagging headache. Monday morning, I told DH that I thought I should go in since nothing seemed to be helping the headache. He had to go to work for a bit but came home at about noon and we went to L & D. They started out with the blood panel for pre-e because of the headache, though I thought the headache was more from the throwing up. And when it came back my liver level was 5x the cutoff (don't know the number.) They admitted me with severe pre-e and started the process.

When I went in I was at 3 cm. They wanted to start Mag but I refused. I have really quick labors and I said that if they'd just do what works I would not take very long. They agreed but still made me sign my life away for refusing the Mag. They gave me pit at about 6pm, then checked me and broke my water at 8 or so. I was still a 3. They would not let me move off my side laying down. It was not too bad but not the most effective way to labor. I felt like the laying was holding things up so I kept asking to sit up and of course they said no. At about 11, they checked again and I was just at 4. So I got pretty mad. I had been having pretty intense contractions for hours and I felt like all I needed was to sit up! I argued with the nurse about it for a while and she went and got a doc. He agreed but only with the internal monitor on the baby. I was fine with that. So about midnight I got to sit up at about a 45 degree angle in the bed. When I would have a contraction I kinda arched my back and tried to sway my hips into it. Boy did that work! They started getting REALLY intense and I called the nurse about 12:30. She checked and I was 9, and by the time they got the bed broken down I was ready to "test push." The test push got her to crown and then her heart rate really dropped. They told me to push her out with the next one and that was easy because the only thing that took the pain was the pushing! So at 12:42 Miss Britton Joy arrived! They put her on my tummy but right away had to take her because she was breathing too fast. Turned out that she had a 101 temp! But it was down in just a few minutes and we got to spend about an hour just Me, Dh and Britton in the room.

Right after they came to give her a bath is when things kinda went south for me. I took a couple deep breaths just soaking in the moment and then started feeling sick, like feverish. They took my temp and it was 101.8. I got some motrin and Tylenol and just waited, but my temp just kept going up. Got to 103.3 and I felt like people started to panic a bit. They were talking infection and sepsis, and hysterectomies! It is all a blur to me now. Anyway, after 2 days of fevers with what looked like no reason... they decided I had the Flu! And I had a Flu shot! It just hit after labor probably because I had been hyped on adrenaline and wasn't feeling bad.

Anyway, baby girl is stirring so I better run. I will be watching for you all to have your babies and I wish you all easy and fast labors!

Yuck on the flu. That may be what caused to vomiting to start with. Congratulations though, and wow that was some productive pushing. Hope you are feeling better now and that little one's weight is up. How much did she way at birth?
