    Unhappy S-i-l

    My poor sister in law.......

She was Due to have her third child, first baby girl, on January 21st (I had shared a pic of her and I together around xmas in Baby Bumps thread). Around the beginning of January her Doc started telling her to be prepared for a Section because it seems like the baby is too big for her have. Her other 2 children were both about 9lbs+ when born and she had them vaginally with meds/Epi. On Jan. 24th she went in for her scheduled C-section. Her daughter was 9.8lbs (so normal compared to the rest of her children). On the 28th the pain within her abdomen became unbearable and she went into the hospital. She has a very bad internal infection and has been in the hospital ever since...completely separated from her extremely young new born because when she was admitted the nurse told her husband to get the baby out of the hospital asap because of germs (exact words "do not let that baby touch a single thing in this room and get her out of the hospital immediately.") Breast feeding is out now, my SIL is unable to pump because of pain and hospital will not help in storing the milk. Her husband is at home with their 7yr old, 3 year old, and NB. I feel so bad for her because she probably really could have avoided the section if the Docs were patient with her body to start labor on its own.... she was barely overdue. I know this doesn't always happen with C-sections but how scary....and sad for baby and mom.

That sounds so horrible!! I couldnt imagine anything like that I hope she can get everything under control and home soon to her baby girl (and the rest of the family)! We will send our prayers to her!!!

There's absolutely no reason she can't keep the baby with her and breastfeed most of the time. She needs to contact a patient advocate immediately and insist on having access to her baby to breastfeed and access to a pump. Dh can bring a cooler from home. I had heart failure after my section with Anakin and I had to fight like hell to be able to have him there and breastfeed because of one stupid doctor I had. There's no excuse for keeping baby from her. NONE!

I totally agree with you! If it were me I would be the loudest and pushiest mom to maintain access to my baby, but my SIL is such a push over and will just agree with anything someone tells her....she wont question it or cause any friction. That's why I think this happened in the first place.... her doc said hey youre just gonna have a section, and she simply agreed.

This is so sad, Britt. I agree with Mary Jane. Maybe SIL just doesn't realize that she does have options?

Either way, praying for her and your family. That must be so hard!
