    Default First Appointment Post Flu

And it was a let down! My OB is out on maternity leave and I have never actually met any of the other OBs in the practice. Today I met the boss doctor and even though I was the first appointment he was 45 minutes late. Now, I know that this can happen with any OB practice but I did have my three year old and two year old with me and it was only 5 degrees out with a negative windchill. We left early because I knew that we'd be wrestling with hat, gloves, scarfs, boots and jackets. So we ended up arriving 10 minutes before my appointment. Anyway....

I haven't gained anything yet and might actually be a bit down from my starting weight. That is totally fine with me as all the steroids I was on this summer caused me to gain 15 pounds and then I was unexpectedly pregnant. My appetite just got back to almost normal last week and the two weeks before I was pretty sick with the flu and didn't eat much. I'll probably start gaining soon (ugh!).

The boss doctor essentially said I was low risk, listened to the heart beat and was gone before I could say anything. He didn't even give me the heart rate. I could have totally done all that at home today instead of going out in the freezing cold weather. I was supposed to be having another ultrasound because I have a 3 cm cyst on my right ovary but as I said I really didn't get to say or ask anything. I actually wanted to see if he would listen to my lungs since I am still coughing and have some shortness of breath from the flu, too. Frustrating appointment.

I'm sorry it wasn't such a great appt! That sounds like a lot of time and effort for very little return. I'd be annoyed! But thank God you and the baby are doing well, that's all that matters. I hope you get a better appt next time. Did your kids get to hear the HB?

Ugh! I hate appointments like that . So frustrating! You probably could have gotten more info from a nurse. I'm sorry he was such a boob. I hope that there is someone else in the practice that you can request.

The kids did hear the heartbeat for the 15 seconds he listened. My OB will be back March 1st if all goes as planned. I'm supposed to see him once more but I think I will change to a different doctor - I can just switch day of the week to avoid him.

Sorry the appointment wasn't what you had hoped! My last appointment felt like a waste of time too, but I decided that no news is good news and if baby is healthy I'm ok with a quick in and out. Frustrating that you had to wait so long though! Hope your next appt is better with a different doc.

Awe, Jess....What a let down. I really love my OB but he's so laid back that he counts the heart rate but I never know what it is, he's never actually measured my belly....they are always 15 minute appointments. Although, I must tell you...he's always willing to talk to me and ask if I have questions and all that. I'd be disappointed too!

My appointment was about two minutes long, if even that! It was nuts as I wasn't the late one - he was! He also asked if I felt movement and then when I said a little bit very low he said that it wasn't the baby and was just likely pressure changes...Um, ok. What would be causing the pressure changes? A baby maybe? Also, I'm the one that has been this pregnant three times and he has never been pregnant once...

He was nothing like my regular OB whom I have seen for three years and five pregnancies.

My doc seemed surprised today when I told him I had been feeling movement! Isn't it pretty common to feel movement by 17 weeks with a second pregnancy?

Did he ask abut movement just to tell you you're wrong? That's crazy! Sounds like a horrible experience.

My appts are whirlwinds but I have nevere waited for more than 5 minutes. I have wondered if it is common as a 2nd child thing or was just this doctor's style to be so quick. I like him for lots of other reasons so I'm just going to try to be more prepared and write things down if I do have questions in between because I certainly don't have time to think or talk it out during appointments.

Hope the next one is much better!
