Default Glucouse Test and Gestational Diabetes

I failed the first test and they want me to go back for the three hour one. I barely made it through the first. I HATE bloodwork. Did anyone actually have this, and did you have the symptoms? All I have is the fatigue, and who can blame me. I do not want to go for this test, and I do not want to check my own blood (in fact that WONT happen... lol) I just feel like crap right now. And my SIL just gave me a big framed picture of my cat that passed away in November, so I'm already sad and depressed about that. (Thanks for that HUGE reminder that he is no longer with me.) Bloodwork is my ultimate stress...I know, go ahead and laugh at me. I have anxiety issues and I just can't handle it.

I took my 1-hour glucose test late last week. I got a vauge phone message from my doctor's office that told me to go to the pharmacy to pick up my Rhogam shot, and to swing by and pick up my 3-hour glucose test paperwork!?!?!?!? I haven't been officially told I failed the test, but I'm guessing from that message that I did. My first pregancy, I passed without any issues. My husband is diabetic, and so I occationally check my blood sugar using his tester, and last week is was 88, which is well within normal range. I'm shocked if I have to take the 3-hour test. I did read that failing the 1-hour test is pretty common, and they give the additional test if you are over 130 or 140, depending on your doctor. I plan to ask my doctor at my appointment on Friday to see what the reading was and find out how much over I was to trigger the additional test.

Not to panic you, but I did read that they take 3 blood draws for the 3-hour test.

Yeah, I am not looking forward to that. It seems a little ridiculous that we are still using this test if so many people are failing, but passing the three hour. You would think there would be an easier way.

I just wanted to pop in and offer support! I was borderline normal on my first test but since I have a high risk pregnancy they had to be sure and made me do the 3 hour. I'm a huge baby about blood work and needles. In fact, I get more stressed over an IV than contractions. I passed my three hour. I know it really sucks BUT the benefit to baby of treating GD if you have it is important. I had some symptoms of GD but didnt have it. I hope that the 3 hour goes okay for you.

    And about your kitty.

Thank you! I'm more stressed about the test than the results too. I know if I have it there is help, but there is no helping my fears of the testing, . And the nausea
