Dr. Just called me with my IPS results and its showing positive... 1 in 11 chance of downs! I know these tests are frwqurntly wrong... But im really scared!

Weve been given the number for genetic testing and counselling but i dont think we could ever terminate no matter so not sure if we will do an amnio or anything!!

I was close to a positive with my son at 1:220 but 11 is a much smaller number

If you ever have any questions regarding Down Syndrome I can do my best to help with resources in your area. I work in the developmental disability field and because Down Syndrome is common there are so many supports and resources. Not that this makes you feel any better. I am crossing my fingers that he/she is one of 10 and your right a lot of times those tests are not accurate at all which is why I didn't want them to do it even though they did.

Thanks, had to leave work for a bit to call my husband and have a good cry!

Called and left a message for an appt. With the genetics folks... Will be good for information if nothing else... The idea of an amnio scares me just as much ... But it would only be for answers for me either way... I respect every persons choice but neither my DH or i could do a termination i think!

Just completely out to lunch now!!

I didn't do the testing for this reason. I won't terminate no matter what, so this baby is ours for keeps no matter what.

When they do u/s's - can't they see signs (stature, hands, etc)? I'm so sorry if that was an ignorant question.

I pray that it isn't for you and your family. Keep us posted.

Best advice ever Exactly what I've been trying to do the last couple of days!!

The news is always shocking, and then once it sinks in, and really doesn't matter THAT much -- my baby will be loved and cared for no matter what... then its all okay no matter what

Oh -- and apparently our "appt" with the genetics counsellor is actually a group information session -- which they will also give us a copy of our results and said there is time for 1-1 questions at the end *sigh*... so not what I had in mind.

Oh well... that happens next week on Thurs. 17th. Put in a call to my OB as I have a few questions for him too...

I have known people whose testing showed an increased risk for Down's, and they had a perfectly healthy baby. And I also know a woman who had a baby with Down's even though it was never detected while she was pregnant. No matter what happens you will be a great mother to this baby!!!

It's nice to hear that you can offer some information. I have never experienced anything like that before.
