    Wink U/S Today!

    Hi ladies!

Things went super today for my 18wk2day sono. The baby is a-ok, with all of its vitals looking good!!! We did NOT find out the gender, and the tech was super sweet. She said "I'm not gonna even look there. If you don't want to know, then I shouldn't know either!"

DH did not make it, he got tied up with work. However, I ended up with an entourage nevertheless: my mom, Gram, youngest sis, and DS came along! DS was so sweet - rubbing my leg while he watched his little bro/sis on the screen. When we asked him what he thought, he let out this reticent little "good."

The tech DID eventually kick everyone out because she had to switch to an internal U/S to check/measure the distance between my placenta and cervix. They are quite close, but not overlapping. I'm going to have to have some extra checks to make sure that the placenta moves up as baby grows. Anyone else ever had this happen???

Once I saw the doctor(it's a group practice, so you have to see each doctor who might deliver you - but I love 90% of them!) she commended me on minimal weight gain so far - especially after the holidays and in comparison to my weight gain with DS. I was relieved, because I've been a lot more conscientious about it this time.Woot!

She also mentioned that since DS was 9lbs 1oz and I delivered naturally, they will carefully monitor this LO to make sure I don't go any bigger than that next time. She warned me that this time, they might choose to induce me before the due date, so be ready for that possibility. (Which I am ok with, although I had no problem delivering DS. I don't think I'd want to deliver a baby much bigger than that naturally.)

She also mentioned they will check my glucose 2x instead of once - probably at 24/28 weeks, then again at 32/34 weeks.Overall it was a great appointment. I go back for a check up again February 5th!

    Some pics...

Glad you had such a good appt! And that's exciting that you are going to stay on team green! I don't have any experience with the cervix/placenta thing, but I feel like there are a million little things they monitor you for during pregnancy, and 99% of them turn out to be nothing at all. So I would try not to worry too much!

Popping in from March DD ...

I had the placenta / cervix thing ... my placenta was partially on my cervix at my 20 week US so I got another US at 28 weeks and my placenta had moved "far away" from the cervix. Basically, if your placenta is too close to the cervix, you can't deliver normally - you'll need a C-Section. But, as your little one grows so will your uterus .... definitely not anything to stress or worry about!

Thank you very much for sharing your experience! I'm glad to hear it all worked out for you! I hope I will be in the same boat.

    Default Placenta

I have had the problem of a low lying placenta with a few of my babies and they have always moved up. I was really worried with them because I have a terrible aversion to c-sections but I was told this early on it is almost certain the placenta would move up. Just once baby made it all the way to thirty two weeks before it moved and then my chances were much lower of it moving but still it moved up and away...So, fear not it is actually pretty common at the big u/s to see that my dr. told me.

Glad the appt went well!! I actually go back next Friday so they can check the placenta because it was so low at 20w. The dr didn't seem concerned and said everything normally works itself out by the time you deliver.

Thanks for making me feel better about the situation so I don't worry so much ladies! I'm glad it is more common than I thought.
