Is the weather bad where y'all are? The wind here is super-gusty (and it's normally gusty out here). It's got my two cats really wound up. I've had an annoying cough for the past few days. My kitten that I adopted on the 4th had kennel cough and I feel just like I believe he did. Thankfully, he's all better and he didn't give it to my older cat. He purrs for the vet and she tries to bite the vet's hand off!

I went baby stuff window shopping the weekend and was worn out by it. I showed hubby the items I really liked online, but he's really swayed by website reviews and wanted to change everything I liked to only things with 5 star reviews. Even more exhausting lol. I know that once my grandma sees my wish list, she's going to upgrade whatever hubby picks anyway, so we'll probably end up with the lower-rated, but more expensive items. (He'll make us exchange them, I'm sure.)

My biggest disappointment was bedding/theme selections. I just want some nice chocolates and tans that I can accentuate with blue, so I can reuse the decor for our next child, who I hope will be a girl. Since we will likely be trying for baby number 2 within the next two years (fertility issues have already raised their ugly heads, we are older -- 35 (me) and 42 (DH) by delivery, and we would like to have both babies before hubby retires from the military), I don't want to spend the cash on doing gender-specific themes. But everything seems to have lime green in it and I really dislike bright greens. Plus I don't like pink and green together, so then I wouldn't reuse it out of pickiness. My friends suggesting building my own theme by shopping selectively, but I'd so much rather buy a put together set and personalize it, rather than spend time and energy on designing from scratch. What websites or stores inspire you? So far, I've looked at a few web only sites and Babies R Us in-store and online. The few things I did like were all out of stock. *sigh*

My mom already bought our baby's first toy and first outfits. She found a couple items with penguins on them and since DH likes penguins, she snapped them up. But the animal theme I had in mind is monkey.

JJorn -- ouch! I hope the appointment is as quick and painless as possible and biopsy results are conclusive but not bearing bad news!

Weather is bad here. Snow, sleet and then freezing rain this morning. The good news is that around lunchtime we got above freezing temps for the first time in a week. Last week this time it was 4 degrees. Tomorrow they're saying a high if 50. Hello sinus headache!

With my first we went with.lrimary colors. I'm not picky, but like you, I only wanted to buy the stuff once no matter what the gender of the second. So far I'm able to reuse everything no matter the gender of this one. Primary colors and no specific theme opened the door to make shopping easier.

    Good luck!

Funny story to share with you all...

So this morning I was driving to work, and as I was driving I was thinking about our big u/s coming up in 2 weeks, and then I started worrying about all the things that could go wrong, and hoping that nothing is wrong with our baby. Just then baby started kicking, and kept moving around the whole rest of the way to work, as if he/she was trying to say, don't worry mom everything's all right in here! It was so sweet. this LO already!!!

Aww so sweet Katie!! I love when I get worried and break out the Doppler and I don't even have to search, I can find the HB right away.

    Katie, that is so sweet!

CareBR -- Thanks for the idea and I hope the winter weather passes quickly. I'm sorry about your sinus headache. :< I like neutrals, but primary colors are reasonable substitutes and probably a lot easier to find!

At my 4th month appt, the midwife used the Doppler, but couldn't hear the heartbeat because "the baby was moving too much". She had to break out the ultrasound. It made me really nervous, but his heartbeat was strong.

I'm curious, my 1st formal u/s (dating purposes) lasted like 45 minutes. Will the second one take longer (in your experience)? I already know gender because the genetic test results revealed Y chromosomes and no chromosomal abnormalities, so I assume this second one will just be focused on other developmental stages. I wasn't told to have a full bladder before the appt, but the tech commented that because my bladder wasn't full, she was having a hard time seeing the baby (he was still in my pelvic region). I don't feel like I'm getting a whole lot of communication from the peripheral staff. My midwife is very informative and very supportive, but I often get the feeling from everyone that I'm supposed to know all this stuff already because of my age, even though my paperwork shows this is my first baby.

aww katie, what a sweetie. We took Shay to a scan this morning and he thought the baby was a dinosaur!!

Lilbunni, from what I remember, the 20 week scan can take longer as they go through all the organs and check them. I had a lot of scans with Shay and the further along I got, the less it seemed important to have a full bladder. I would just keep sipping some water an hour or so before the scan. It can uncomfortable otherwise if they keep you waiting and then they start pressing on your bladder when scanning. Glad the baby is ok though, take care!

I have never had the dating ultrasound take that long and no one has ever said anything about having a full bladder for that either. For the 20 week I think they say to have an empty bladder, but I don't remember for sure.

The needle biopsy for my DS is done and will likely be nondiagnostic. They for sure got white and red blood cells but didn't see anything else. They will be centrifuging the samples to see if they find any lymphatic cells and we'll get final results by the end of the week.

The weather has been crazy here lately. It was in the dingle digits last week, got to above freezing and then hovered around freezing for a "wintry mix" and lots of ice on Sunday. Today it's 60 and in a day or so it is supposed to be a high of 17.

I did not need a full bladder for any of mine. The only one so far to take longer then 10-15 min was my NT scan and that was a 1/2 hr one and I had a full bladder at the beginning of it but thy made me empty it because it was obscuring the view. With DS I did not need a full bladder except the first u/s at 7 weeks but they were using a crappy machine compared to what my doc uses now. I mean it really looked like a blob rather then closer to a baby like it did this time.

The weather here is nuts. This weekend it was in the 20's and now it is 58 and nice but breezy. I wish that It would stay like this for the rest of the season cause I Hate winter. We did go for a walk today and it was nice to get out but it wore me out. We are planning to go back out tomorrow and then Saturday take DS swimming.

hey ladies! feel like I haven't been around much. Getting bad headaches here.... ugh. I'm hoping the latest ones are weather related. Doctor told me to have a coffee when I feel them coming on and that has helped but had two days of migraines to the point of getting sick. yuck.

Confession: I totally went to June due dates before coming into our room because that's how excited I am to look at people's 20 week ultrasounds! hahaha So excited for our turn next. I can't believe yours is in two weeks Katie!

Have my sixteen week tomorrow and am so excited to set my U/S date. It feels funny to be so excited for the U/S when I didn't even have or want one with DD. Changes! I'm thinking about being "bad" and telling my family it's the week after it really is just to keep a secret for a bit I did have the idea for the tech to write it down for me and let me tell DH. I don't know why but I really want to know for 2 seconds before him and be the one to say it. I mentioned it to him and he thought it was a fine idea. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. HORMONES!

I also fell/slid on my back down the stairs yesterday and am so sore today. Everything feels like a stretch. The worst part? My 3 year old is in the "why?" phase and proceeded to ask me ALL.DAY.LONG why I fell down the stairs.

Ending this long update with.... I'm pretty sure I felt movement last night when I laid down to go to bed two quick "punches".

I honestly can't remember how long my u/s took last time! I know I am scheduled for my big u/s at 1pm and then appt with OB at 1:30 so I guess they plan for 1/2 hour. Today was so nice out, in the 60's! DS and I went to the park for a while since I was off this afternoon. I also test drove a couple of SUV's as we are looking at getting a new, larger car for when this baby is born. It's supposed to be cold again within the next couple days though.

Mariel: My DS has been in that why stage for what seems like the past 8 months and I dont think it will end. He even asked me why the baby was in my tummy and not playing with him. It is difficult to explain that to a not quite 2 year old. I hope your doing ok after your fall. I also have been going into the June DD room to see all the gender reveals. I am so ready to find out but I have 5 weeks till I do unless my Fantastic OB will give me a 2nd earlier scan. lol

Katie: I love my SUV and I dont think I will go for anything else. What all did you test drive. I have a dodge durango but plan on getting a 4 door jeep wrangler in the next year to year and a half. We were also enjoying the weather and we go from warm today to chance of snow tomorrow night. I hate this weather.

So we are planing on building our house. I have the perfect plans in mind then one of my friends go and spoil my thoughts cause she found us a house that wont require building and it has one more bedroom and another bath plus vaulted celings, this all for 80,000 then what our house will cost us (as long as it stays in budget). I am angry because we already have the land and all we have to do is save up for the rest of the down payment which will take us about 2 years and then we get to building. If I knew we had the down payment and could get the loan then I would put in an offer cause we can sell the land but we can't. The down payments the banks around here require is a 20% min. We are in a bad area with no hope to expand since everything is leaving us. Ok end rant....

Thats about all that is going on with us.

I have to have a level 2 for the anatomy scan. they tell me not to pee for 1 hour prior to appt, but I don't need t drink a ton of water before it. I asked her why I have to the water crap when I go to regular radiology and she said because they are not as good at is as they are in Perinatal, LOL. My ultrasound takes about 45 minutes to an hour, but they take every picture between 2 and 3 times to make sure they have accurate readings and baby gets a fetal echo. Afterwards I have to see my perinatal doc which means that adds about a half hour too...

The weather here sucks. Feels like -25 with the wind chill. We've had freezing rain and re-freezing going since Sunday and about 4 inches of snow on Sunday that was all super wet and heavy and impossible....

Life is otherwise good here...still have insomnia and headaches, but next week I will be half way done so I am just thinking positively at this point and going with the flow

The precipitation here started on Sunday as snow/sleet - temperature hovered right around freezing. Then it rained all day yesterday (with thunder storms) and was around 60. Today the temperature has been steadily dropping and we are back to just around freezing so the precipitation can't make up its mind to be rain, ice or snow. I think that we are supposed to have snow by the end of the day. I guess they say that is why this graphic represents weather in IL:

I am still so very tired and taking Zofran. When will the second trimester loveliness start?? I'm almost 16 weeks.
