    Default Contractions

So, last Saturday we were at the inlaws and just sitting around I started getting tons of contractions. Finally went home and tracking them they were 8 - 10 min apart but not painful. I was having lower back pain and light cramping. After 3hrs of it we went to l&d and they put me on a monitor, but like I told my husband, they stopped about the time we pulled into the parking lot. My belly has an early warning system that detects any l&d nearby and shuts down all contractions! Has happened several times over the years. Well they did not do an internal exam and just monitored for a while. I was discharged with the distinct impression they didn't believe me. Oh well. Husband left on military duty for a week with peace of mind.

Today however they started up again and again lasted for about 3hrs again. Did not call or go anywhere since l&d and my midwife office said if they don't get closer and don't hurt more then don't worry, so I didn't.

However I am beginning to worry because with my last LO I dilated to a 6 1/2 with just the same kinds of "Braxton hicks" contractions and never would have know except for the midwife's internal exam. I am supposed to see her on Monday and think I'll ask for an internal, but they don't do them until closer to term, right? What do you think???

My husband has another TDY at the end of may but now we're not sure if he shouldn't try to find a replacement so as not to miss the birth...Any thoughts?

I have been having them too... I am sorry.

My doc told me that when it happens to lay down and they should stop. My LO is so low that the pressure is very intense.

I will be asking to be checked at my next apt too. Hang in there....

    Sending tons of

I've been having some contractions too - randomly throughout the day but no pattern yet. It is super awkward when it happens in a room full of teenage girls!

I'd see what your midwife says on Monday, but definitely go with your gut! Voice your opinion to set things up the way you want them, especially closer to DD. If you have control over the situation a little bit, I wouldn't shy away from advocating for your needs!

I'm doing fine. After taking a bath the contractions slowed a bit but I could feel them all night. Now they're all done. Going in on Monday and we'll see. Who knows maybe I'll just do silent dilation until I finally go into labor at 9cm and have a 30 min. labor! That would be something! But I have been reading a lot and lots of women dilate early without labor and go full term. Some even walk around at a 4 or 5 and need to be induced so I am confident we'll be just fine!

Im sure your midwife wouldnt mind doing an internal just to make sure. Mine did one last time because i had consistent cramps the previous night and she said she would much rather make sure everything was OK than to ignore it.

Dont ya love when that happens...our bodies sense when were at the doctor or hospital and automatically correct themselves?

Happy to hear you are feeling better. I thought of you last night because we went for a few mile walk (normally I am crazy hiking walking running lady and I am struggling making it to the post office now...)

But on our walk, I made it about to the two mile mark and I started having Heavy contractions. They were so painful I had to stop and wait for them to calm down. But I felt like I was going to give birth on someone's lawn.

Happy to hear you are going to get checked and you took a nice bath!

Hope all is well with you Willow and I will assume since I didn't see on the news "lady gives birth in neighbors tulips", that you made it back safely. Yeah, I hate the int. exams but better safe than at the nicu! I just keep hearing stories of women who accidentally have their babies in the toilet and wonder how that could EVER be mistaken for a bm!? Serves me right for trolling the Internet reading crazy birth stories!

I hear you! The Internet can really get you riled up to expect the worst!

Willow - I'm glad your contractions calmed.

I had a few in my classroom full of teenage girls last week. I'm usually a high-energy teacher, so when I stood still and took deep breaths, they got so freaked out and started to go off on a tangent asking me if we should have a plan for when I go into labor in class. Being a religion teacher, I said "Um, no. Let's just pray to God that doesn't happen!"

Good thing laughter doesn't start labor!
