    Default Spotting?

    Hey Ladies!

So, yesterday after getting home from work I noticed that I had started spotting a bit, it was a light brown so I didn't worry too much about it. I also had some slight cramping in my lower back. This morning the spotting has stopped and I was very relieved, until I used the bathroom at work and noticed when I wiped quite a bit of dark brownish/reddish. It's not heavy enough to need a pad and I'm still only having very light cramping but I am absolutely freaking myself out.

Is this normal? I called the nurse hotline at my hospital and have still not gotten a phone call back from them. My appointment is still not for another 12 days, not sure I can wait that long!

I have heard that spotting is normal in early pregnancy...still try to get in touch with your doctor.

Yes, it would be normal, if you are concerned, it's better to ask for an early appointment! How far are you?

I'm 6 weeks 3 days today. It's slowed back down a bit but I'm still a little crampy. I don't feel like its anything to worry about. I still feel a few of the other symptoms. I'll try getting ahold of the doc again tomorrow though I think.

Spotting can be a negative sign, but it can also be normal for some women. How frustrating that the nurse hasn't called you back! I think it's a good idea to try your doc tomororw. Keep us posted!

It's about 50/50, with it being normal and it being a bad sign. I had spotting on and off throughout the first trimester with DD, and she obviously turned out just fine. The cramping is also completely normal, as long as it's nothing severe. It's your uterus stretching out, basically.

brown/dark spotting is a better sign than pink or red at least because it means old blood. Also slight crampy feeling can be totally normal, mine was so bad I was convinced I had a cyst but it was just the implantation side and growth.

But as mentioned it can go either way. I would advise calling your doctor right away and see about getting in sooner!

    Best wishes

Yes, it can be completely normal....but I would certainly either try to ask for an earlier appointment, or go to an urgent care or the ER if it makes you feel better. I know, for me, I freak out whenever I have spotting...but they told me that my cervix is friable and it just means that I tend to spot or bleed more easily with anything affecting it, from DTD or an exam, or just being too active....so it could be any number of things, not necessarily bad, and yes, the brown is better than pink or red....but I will be praying for you and hope you were able to get a call back from the nurse line!

This afternoon the spotting seemed to have been clearing up a bit. I wasn't feeling well and ended up leaving work early. When I got home and used the bathroom I did have some more spotting and passed a clot along with a small amount of blood. FINALLY got through to an actual person at the hospital rather than a machine after trying for hours and the nurse told me that it could possibly be normal, and to get to the ER to find out for sure whats going on.

Waiting for the Hubby to get home from work and heading over there. Wish me luck ladies!

Just got back from the ER, the doctor said that bleeding is definitely not normal, however can happen sometimes and the pregnancy can still go on without a problem. At this point she said for me it could really go either way. They did an ultrasound and could not see the heartbeat because it's still so early and baby is measuring a week smaller than originally estimated. I need to make an appt for a follow up ultrasound for 2 weeks from now to see how things are progressing, or not progressing. Also found out I've got a tilted uterus..which would explain all this back pain!

For the moment I'm just going to keep going the way I have been and hope for the best.

Thank you all so much for all of the support and kind words, Hubby and I appreciate it!

So sorry you are dealing with this. From my experiences in the loss area what you are describing does not sound like the outcome will be good. But hoping all will be okay. I have had on and off spotting with healthy pg's also but it would only spot a day then no more for 2 or so weeks my loss pg's I would spot bleed like you describe and have some small clots also.

Unfortunately I've been up since about 3am in pretty terrible pain and passing quite a bit of blood. I'm positive I'm miscarrying at this point. As emotionally and physically exhausting as this is, I plan to keep my head up, and Hubby and I plan to get started on trying again as soon as we possibly can.

Thanks for everything ladies, and prayers for all of you to have happy and healthy pregnancies!
