    Default New to this...TTC

Hello all. I am hopeful that I will find some words of wisdom and support here. I am 25 years old and my husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 8 months. I was regular for 15 months prior to attempting to conceive and for the last 5 months I have not been having a cycle. I was wondering if it is possible to conceive if I am not having a cycle? Also, I am attempting to lose weight to make it easier to conceive. I would say I am 20lbs overweight. My doctor is pushing us to start hormones and I am really wanting to know what is "normal" for people who has struggled to conceive. I have several friends who spent 12 days "trying" and were pregnant, obviously that is not us. Any words of wisdom?

    Kindly,

    Renee

It takes any couple with no infertility problems on average a year. That doesn't really make it less frustrating. I'm sure you've already checked to make sure you are not pregnant, so have you talked to your doctor about not having AF? Is that why they suggested hormones? If you are not having AF then you are most likely not ovulating and therefore cannot get pregnant. It is definitely a struggle, but the ladies on here are really wonderful at helping you through this rough journey!!

If you are not having a cycle, you are not ovulating and will not become pregnant. I agree that you should check to be sure that somehow you haven't become pregnant and not gotten a positive - if you need to, get your doctor to give you a blood test. Otherwise, you should talk to your doctor about taking something (possibly Provera) to get your period started, and once it comes, start charting your cycles with temps and/or OPKs to check for signs of ovulation.
