    Default Hearing babies heart beat

We went to the dr a few weeks ago and had an ultra sound being as i had a procedure done while i was pregnant and everything with baby was great heart beat was 165, and baby was right on target. We went to the dr on July 23rd and dr found a very faint heart beat but it was there. Now we went back to the doctor on July 30th and our OB doctor could not find the heart beat. She said baby is tiny and possibly behind the placenta hiding. Has any one else had this happen or does any one have any advice for me?

Was this on Doppler or ultrasound the last two times? It is common when they are little (1stTrimester and maybe beginnIng of the second). If your placenta is in the front of your uterus I know it is harder to hear and feel the baby. I've gone in a few times where they had to pull out the ultrasound to find my baby's heart beat.
Ask for an ultrasound and/or call your doctor and see of they are concerned. It could ease your peace of mind!

This. I'm really surprised your OB didn't do an ultrasound when she couldn't find the heart beat.

How far along are you? I'd definitely be asking for an ultrasound and am also surprised one wasn't offered. It is very possible that the baby is just too small (or hiding), but peace of mind is important too!

I am 12 weeks and the last two times were with a doppler. Just nerve racking but my doctor didnt seem to concerned with this. I think I am driving myself crazy hoping everything is ok in there.

I'm sure things are fine but I'm eith the others and am surprised he didn't do an us...

The doc couldn't fine dd1s HB on doppler at 11 weeks - had to actually do a tranvaginal us to find it because she couldn't even see it on the external us. When they're that small it is SO dependent on where they're laying. I know w dd2 they told me its really common to not get it on doppler the first trimester and early second. But they always did a us for my piece of mind. Maybe call the doc back and ask to go in again because you're worried? Stress isn't good for you!

Just a side note too - I had one apt when I was about 30 weeks w dd2 and it took a good minute for them to find her HB. And she was big by that point so u never know!!

This happened to me at my 12 wk appointment with the doppler. However, they got me in for an ultrasound within an hour. I can't imagine not getting one after not hearing the hb. That hour I waited for the ultrasound was unbearable and I cried the whole time... With me everything ended up being fine, the placenta was making it hard to find babys hb, they immediately found it on ultrasound... to u!
