Unhappy Protein in urine & blood results "abnormal"?!?

I've already mentioned that they want me to do the 24-hour urine test next week. They also took 4 vials of blood to test for "markers to show underlying high blood pressure.". Well, I'm guessing they didn't find those markers, but I know they found something....I just don't know what. The nurse called saying the results were "abnormal" and they're sending me to a GI specialist. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, because other than some constipation and diarrhea I feel fine. I can't imagine there's anything wrong, and sure not enough to warrant another specialist, but it's worrying me that they're sending me at all. The worst part is the appt isn't for nearly 3 weeks, so I have to try and not think about it until then, and just do my home test and my blood tests.

I would call back and ask to speak to the nurse and ask her what exactly they mean by "abnormal"
I have done this before and they can tell you sometimes the reason behind their decision....i am sorry you are going thru this and how worry this is making you...

    call them!

Can you call back the Primary Doc who ordered the tests and ask them specifics of the test results? There is no way I would be going 3 weeks without knowing why I a blood test was deemed 'abnormal'. It's almost 0900...I'd call the Dr's office and ask to speak with the Dr!

(One plus to the MIL health system...I am able to email my Dr with any questions or concerns and she gets back to me with in just a day or so...LOVE that aspect of it!)

I hope it's not really anything...but I am trying to see where a GI Dr would have anything to do with BP?

The nurse wouldn't tell me anything, just that it's abnormal. They didn't find the blood pressure"markers" they were looking for, so that's off the table now. They found something else, that's all I know. It could be a kidney function thing, especially since I was dehydrated prior to the appointment. For now, they said the other doctor would let me know at my appointment.

well...here's more insight...just spoke with the nurse. They didn't get enough blood Monday, so they'd like me to come back for another blood test tomorrow. She said my liver enzymes were elevated, so they want to do a hepatitis test. I'm not worried about that one...I've never come in contact with blood. She's going to have the Dr call me so I can give him some history--I'm a recovering alcoholic, sober nearly 13 years, so that may have affected my liver. OR...could it be the Tylenol I was taking? I wasn't taking more than the bottle said was ok, though...

good that at least you got some answers but do remember that there are several types of hepatitis and you can get them by coming in contact with bodily fluids (not only blood), foods and more.....just stating a fact.

I hope is nothing and that it has to do with your previous history...good luck!

    Thanks.
I looked online, and it could also be related to my auto-immune disorder. When the Dr calls, I'm going to suggest he send me to a rheumatologist as well. I know that hep A & B could elevate liver enzymes, but I'm pretty sure they did that blood test recently with my other Dr.

My hubby got a false positive on a hepatitis test years ago. He went for extensive liver screening and they couldn't find a reason why he would test positive. That was about 6 years ago and he's never tested positive after that.
Hope everything works out well and they are just being extra cautious.

I'm hoping you're correct and it's just them being overly cautious...
I went for the additional bloodwork today, so I'll probably hear back about that tomorrow morning.

I wouldn't think that casual use of Tylenol would cause enough liver changes to show up on blood work. I'd think chronic Tylenol use at high doses, or if you had JUST stopped drinking, that's when it'd show up, in my opinion. Congrats on almost 13 years! I hope you find out results before the weekend.

I agree - you would really have to be taking a LOT of Tylenol to be effecting your liver. I asked at my last OB appt how much a day I could take and was told 32 a day!? I looked at the Dr and said "WHAT THE?" and he laughed and said yup...up to 32 regular strength. And there I was worried over taking a 4 a day for my headaches

I hope you get some better answers quick. And - if they took 4 VIALS of blood - someone messed up the tubes or the tests - that should have been PLENTY of blood for testing. (My DH is a Lab geek )
    Congrats on 13 yrs!

My feeling was that they already had plenty for the Hep test, but I didn't mind going back. They never called with the results, so I'm guessing the Hep test was negative. I'm leaning more towards it being auto-immune then anything more serious, as I already have other auto-immune issues. I'm just gonna stay positive for now, and adjust if necessary.
