Default Anyones deliver twins or more naturally???

So I am PG with twins and pretty nervous about the possibility of a c-section with my husband deployed. Deathly afraid is more like it. The closer we get - the more freaked out I am.

I delivered both my previous babies all natural, no meds no issues.

I am looking to see of we have any moms of multiples on here that delivered naturally? I see so many stories of scheduled sections with more than one.

    Thanks!

I don't have any experience, but I have a friend that delivered her twins naturally just a few months ago. I think the biggest thing is that you and your doctor are on the same page and that he/she knows you want a natural delivery and that they are supportive and will do everything in their power to make sure it happens as well. Good luck!

One of the ladies in my May '09 births group had twins vaginally. Her first was head down, and after the first was born they allowed her to birth the second who was footling breech vaginally as well. I agree with the above poster who is pretty darn smart if I do say so myself that it is really about the hospital and the provider. Feel them out on it-would they consider a vag delivery if baby B is breech, or do both have to be head down, or a certain size...just ask them what their personal comfort and "restrictions" are. Some "restrictions" can be negotiated and some they are going to be more firm about. Maybe design a best and worse case scenario birth plan/aftercare plan to ease your mind. Expect the best but prepare for the worst kind of thing. I gave you the most recent example I know of, but I know several twins that were born vaginally 20+ years ago. There were more OBs willing to do breeches and less C-sections at that time though, so I thought a recent one would be a better example. I wonder if spinningbabies.com has any input into optimal positioning of twins...?

My pastors wife delivered twins naturally with no pain meds and both were full term and big for twins and she's tiny tiny herself. Baby A was head down and baby B was breech but she turned about 30 minutes after baby A was out and delivered fine. Her doctor was on the same page as her the whole time. He even told the nurses to back off and let her labor out of bed and without much monitoring.

Thanks Ladies...those are great positive stories. I am kind of stuck with the hospital because we are military - there is a local one a bit closer - but they have a HORRENDOUS Section rate and every mom BUT one that I talked to was very unhappy with the treatment they received there. (The one wanted a scheduled section and got one).

There is a wonderful birthing hospital - but it's over an hour from me. I just don't want to be stuck on a back country road getting there and having to pull over...LOL! I had REALLY wanted a home birth for this - but when we found out it was twins we knew we'd have to go with a hospital. *sigh*

Can you look into hiring a doula? Our doula was a huge help (even though we ended up with a c-section with the twins; they were both transverse), and my docs even let her back in the OR to hold a baby.

I am hiring a doule to be there with me since DH can't be I am working on a list of questions to interview them with - we have what seems to be quite a few in the area. Hoping I can click with one who can be here to support me.

You never know- you mig have a great OB who is as supportive as the stories the pp mentioned. Have you heard of operation special delivery? Doulas that offer their services for free when a spouse is deployed.

You'll definitely want to do your research and interview your potential care giver(s) to find someone who meshes with what you want the end goal to be. It's important to start that way, no matter how many babies or how you choose to birth - your outcome will be closest to what you want when you have someone inline with your thinking and goals. My midwife office doesn't automatically risk out clients just because they have multiples, so it would be worth it to research midwives, too, if that's an option you want.

I have also heard of this. You can ask someone at your clinic for more information. What state are you in?

I had my twins by c-section, but it was by choice. My dr. totally would have let me try a vaginal birth if I had wanted, and that was after 2 previous c-sections. He was okay with letting my try if I wanted since "a" was head down and right on my cervix. "b" was up really high though, and breech, so I opted for the repeat c-section since I didn't want to take the chance on have to recover from both a vag. and c-section delivery if "b" didn't flip (which she probably wouldn't have with as tangled in her umbilical cord as she was).
