    Unhappy D*mn Dentist! :(

Well, they can't pull my broken (& infected) molar because the roots are in my sinus cavity. They're referring me to an oral surgeon, which I can't possibly afford and isn't covered by my insurance, and they can't give me anything for the pain even though it hurts so much I can't sleep.

    It's just not fair!!

I'm so sorry. Call your OB and see if they will prescribe something. Or go to the ER. They will prescribe something. That sounds awful.

Oh no...that sucks. I hate that dental insurance really covers so very little

You can take vicodin! they gave it to me last week.....i do not understand why they would not give it to you!!!!
plus if it is infected they can give you some antibiotics to help with the infection...

I was actually thinking about you last night and what you said about them not being able to reach the tooth...to me that sounds like a bad dr. ...i would really get a second opinion from another endodontic dr.....

and actually question for you....was this your regular dentist or the endodontic????....i am curious

Unfortunately, the dentist called the OB and they won't let me have anything except the day of the extraction, whenever that may be

It's a regular dentist, that's all my insurance covers. I can't take vicodin because of a bad reaction on the past, but they'll give me enough percocet for the day of the extraction and the following day. They said they can't do a root canal and crown because the roots are inside my sinus cavity, which is also why the dentist can't do the extraction herself. She did a 360 x-ray today and said that the roots are too far inside my sinuses and that it's beyond her ability and training. Also, I'm allergic to the only "safe" antibiotics, all I can usually take is sulfa. We're treating the infection with peroxide rinses and clove oil, which has dramatically reduced the swelling so far.

Can you at least take some Tylenol in the mean time to help too?

My SIL had the same thing happen when she was in her first trimester. To suffer like that just isn't fair!!

I'm taking Tylenol, but unfortunately it doesn't do much for nerve pain

My OB was so nice about that stuff. He gave me Percocet for my kidney pain.

Oragel is one of the medications that says not to take when pregnant, but I've used it a couple of times. It doesn't last very long with me

I'm going to see a different dentist (same practice but a different office) today who thinks he might be able to do the extraction. Fingers crossed!

The other dentist, the one with a surgical background, did the extraction BUT the OB decided against letting me have pain meds. I'm NOT happy right now...Novocain hasn't worn off yet and it already HURTS

Your OB is crazy. I'd tell him to have an infected tooth extracted without pain meds. Jerk wad. You don't know anyone with meds? If you lived closer I'd totally hook you up. Poor thing.

Tylenol, ice, and clove oil are are helping...and I see my OB Monday, so you know I'll give him an earful!! I understand he's conservative, but this is just nuts!

I think if I was still back in MI someone would have helped out, but I don't know anyone here yet

Well on the bright side...the tooth is out and now you can focus on feeling better!!! (You probably just want to slap me right now...but thought I'd try to put a positive spin on it. ) I totally agree with the other ladies though and that he's crazy for not letting you have anything.

You're right, in a few days I'll be healed and won't have to worry anymore...
I have a broken crown too, but they promised it won't hurt nearly as much to fix
