Default What do you do for you?

I've been thinking it would be healthy to take a little more time now and then to not focuss on DS and do sonething for myself. I'm going to be doing a Dutch class once a week, but that is kinda for the family as DH speaks Dutch with DS and his family. Other than that, I'm trying o think what I would like to do! (that obviously fits in with being a SAHM.)

What kinds of thing do you ladies get up to?

Ali, DH, Søren (4/2011) and a little one due in September.

My me time has been spent exercising during afternoon nap time for the past year. I love it - the endorphins really help me get through those tough days! Aside from that I enjoy sewing or doing crafts every once in awhile. I don't even know what I would do if I had a chance to get out of the house to do something just for me though!

Audrey (38) DH (34), Lilly (DD), Logan (DS). Breastfeeding is more than feeding. It is communication between mother and baby. It is a form of nurturing; it is an act of love.

Great topic!!!! I have been pondering this as well.

I have started going to the gym for 30 min a day at least 5 days a week. I don't know if I should count as DD goes with me. She loves child watch there.

DD goes to MDO a couple times a week for about 2.5 hours. I spend this time working on assignments (I am taking classes). I don't want to count this either as it is not fun.

I recently started reading a book that is a trilogy so I guess my "me time" is when I read before bed or whenever I get a free moment.

I've decided that since I'm 28 (almost 29) and this is the best it's ever going to get, I'm going to take advantage of that. So I'm getting mani/pedis, tanning (a little!), getting my hair done, and once we get into our house I'm going to join the gym down the road.

I really don't do anything for myself other than go get my hair done every 3-4 months (and do my own roots every 5-6 weeks in between).
I want to start going to the gym and even have a gym membership (I have it on "hold" right now for $10 a month ), but I need to see how my DD feels about the little daycare there. If she's not into it then I'll have to come up with something else.
I really enjoy crafting of all kinds- making tutus, hairbows, a little sewing, decorating stuff- but getting to do any of that is so hard. I ocassionally make it into the craft store to buy supplies, but then it sits collecting dust until I finally shove it in our craft closet. Pretty typical, I'm sure

Go visit the child center at the gym to see if you like it. If so, you can start DD off slow. Ten minutes first few days adding five minutes every few days. She may like going.

    Massage
Girl parties - tastefully simply and mary kay party.
I recently went to a drag queen show with some girlfriend. That was a hoot!
    Getting into a good book
I love to visit with my neighbor. We just sit on her quiet porch and talk about nonsense.
My husband asked me if I wanted to go see Zac Brown Band next month, so that should be a good time. I use to bartend at a bar in GA they use to play at all the time.

It seems like a lot but they are few and far between. I try really hard to do something for myself every now and then. We don't live around family, so it's just me and my husband 24/7. I recently found a wonderful babysitter and that really helps!!

Girls weekends away (2-3 times a year)
    Dinners out with friends
    Book Club
    Make Cards
    Neighborhood Ladies Game Night
    Bible Study
Go to the gym 2-3 times a week and have the kids in the child center there
    Read

For about two years I did nothing for myself and it was not good for me, my husband or our relationship. So I try to at least get a couple hours a week to do whatever I want to do and not be running errands or cleaning the house.

Who keeps the kiddies when you all have time away from home? DH, relative, or sitter?

When I go away for a weekend my inlaws either come stay at our house with my husband or he goes to their house. For nights out either my DH, my neighbor(who is like an extra grandma for my kids), I have only gotten a sitter a couple times, my dad will plan a visit around when I want to do something or I have book club in our basement after my kids go to bed.

My mom lives with us, so she watches my DD when I go get my hair done. She works during the week, so I always schedule my hair appts on a Saturday.

I haven't been away from my guys for longer than a couple hours since they were born. My sister is here visiting and fri night we are driving to the beach after the boys go to sleep and coming back Sun. I'm looking forward to it immensely but also very nervous! My DH will have the boys and will have our sitter over for a few hours on sat. I do have a sitter for 3 or 4 hours twice a week. I use that time to do laundry, schedule repairs, run errands and work on bills & finance stuff. We are on a wait list for a Mom's day out that would be 3 hours once a week. I would use that time to start working out or do something to relax a bit. My DH has been working 60-70 hrs a week plus traveling and I'm really burned out handling everything by myself. DH is adamant that I get the op to have some downtime every week. Hopefully that will work out this fall!

My wonderful DH puts the boys to bed probably 5 nights a week so I can go for a 30-minute run. I have to do it at night because it's so hot in Florida, but can't go too late since it would be dark.

Not nearly enough! We don't really have sitters and the family we have in town isn't real reliable. Just recently we joined a family rec center so I've been taking some yoga classes there while DH watches the girls or they go to the child watch. It's been too hot out to run, but I often do that when I need a break from things, but also need to do that when DH is home. Most of the time I just veg out on the couch and go online or read a book. I also love gardening and enjoy yardwork, but the girls are usually around, so I'm not sure if that counts.

Do your kids go to the children's area happily? I'm nervous how mine would react to me dropping them off (assuming we get into a moms morning out program.)

When my DD started going to MDO, she did just fine with drop off. She cried later when she would get tired. It took me quitting my job (I wanted to anyway) and getting her on a better schedule to realize the crying was from her being tired. She loves going. She asks to go even on the days she isn't scheduled

As far as child watch at the gym, she loves it too!!!

I would think they would be kinda apprenhensive at first, but if there is alot of play going on, they will probably really like it.

This is off the subject, but we have the same two toys that you have in the background of the pictures. Your little guys are too cute!!!

They actually do great when they are together. My older DD (who will be 5 in Oct.) always did well when I dropped her off somewhere. She was just over 2 when we started a one day a week "nursery school" class. Just 2 hours once a week. She never cried. Now, DD2 was another story. We started her in the same nursery class at 2 and she cried when I left but stopped within a few mintues and had fun. Since it was only one day a week she never really adjusted to it and 8 out of 10 times cried when I left, but was fine in a few minutes. At the child watch at the rec center she has her sister so she didn't cry once. I think it's helpful that your boys have each other. We're doing a lot of prepping DD2 for her new preschool this fall which is 2 days a week. So far she is excited, but I dread her crying again at drop off. I'm hoping that since she will be 3 by then she will be a little more accepting of it. *fingers crossed*

Thanks for your comments. I think as my guys get older they will draw more and more comfort from each other. They pretty much ignored each other at their first swim lesson but both adapted quickly. That was in Feb and they definitely are more attuned to being together since then.

Wow, lots of replies! And I guess I'm not the only one trying to answer this question. The last week I've also been loving getting out in the garden... DS enjoys it and gives me a little breathing space out there!
