    Red face So proud!

So today was DD1's kindergarten picnic at her school. She was eating her usual lunch and her teacher came over and said that DD has the healthiest lunches she has ever seen in 7 years of teaching! I was so taken back - it was seriously the BEST compliment she could have given me. She has said that DD is her best reader and one of the brightest in her class and I swear that this made me more happy to hear

The sad thing is - her lunches are not half as healthy as I would like them to be. We have to compromise on a lot of things because she sees what other kids have and I am limited with what I can send her. She usually has a sandwich, veggie or fruit a juice box and a treat/snack. The sandwich is usually lunch meat which I don't like but we can only do so much PBJ and thermos leftovers. I don't like the juice box or the other treat but that is what she wants and quite frankly it's a bit easier than always filling her water bottles with other drinks and making homemade snacks for her. Also the other kids bring those things so she wants them too.

Anyway, I was SO happy to hear her say this. It seriously made my day

That is great!! But, I have to know what in the world are the other children eating?? I thought your DD's lunch sounded pretty normal...that is what I remember from when I was in school..a sandwich, some fruit, juice, a snack.

Exactly! I definitely saw some lunchables....I know for a fact that parents send their kids with soda too.

IDK that is why I think it's sad. While I am SO PROUD I know it's not nearly as healthy as I want it to be. It's a massive compromise.

Considering what others eat, your dd sounds a millions times better. I'd be very proud!!

I forgot about lunchables, and it didn't even occur to me that a child would be drinking soda I am with you...I could see how the choices you made are compromises. It's a future battle that I am not looking forward to!

That's great! And IMO, compromises like that are totally a means to an end. She is obviously making good choices, and eating healthy is just normal for her. To be too restrictive on some things might actually backfire. Great job!!
