Dang....not the update I wanted to hear. I'm so sorry you're still dealing with it. I guess we'll just wait to see what the doctor says this morning. What about pets? We have a dog--if this is scabies I imagine we'll need to treat her somehow, too? Ugh....

Actually, as far as I know, they do not live on pets. Pets get a totally different type of scabies called mange.

We are on day 3 of no new bites. I am feeling hopeful!

DH couldn't get in until this afternoon, but he said he actually saw a couple brown spots come to the surface of some new sores this morning, so I'm sure it is scabies. Ughhhhhhh...... I am going to start bagging clothes, sheets, and blankets now. Hopefully we'll get the cream this afternoon and apply it to everyone tonight. I'm also nursing, so your tip on cutting a hole in a shirt is a great idea. I guess I'll be spending all day tomorrow doing lots of laundry and cleaning.

My brother, who we only see one a year, is scheduled to come on Sunday. Hopefully if I do everything possible over the next few days he will be safe while visiting us. I plan to put all the guest bedding and towels I plastic bags right now. What do you think? If we cancel his visit it will be a whole year before we see him again, so I really don't want to do that!

Well, we're all covered in pesticide and off to bed. I have breastmilk in the freezer, so I decided to just give DS bottles tonight instead of nursing. Hopefully this works.

Bridget-thank you for sharing your story. If I wouldn't have seen it on here I never would have guessed that that was what DH had and who knows how bad it would have gotten before we did anything about it.

Oh man, I am so sorry. I was really hoping when I saw your update that you would say it was something else. A few things I did that you might not think of:
Vacuum the car out and I sprayed NIT which is for bedbugs I think but it has the peremethrin in it.
Have dh put his clothes, bedding, towels directly into a plastic bag and take to the washing machine until you are sure he is cured.
Are you going to wrap your mattress? Some people (my dr included but she also told me I didn't *need* to tell my daycare families) say it's unneccessary but I read a few things about how they can burrow down in the mattress.

Be warned that the itching will become way worse and the exhisting bites will become angry looking after the cream. When the mites die, the body reacts in an allergic fashion. I did not start to feel better for at least a week.

Well, I spend all day yesterday washing everything in hot water and drying on high heat. I bagged all pillows, stuffed animals, etc, vacuumed real well, scrubbed all floors, flipped the mattress (but didnt wrap it). Anything that i thought was a bite on my is already looking better. DH is still real itchy, but he had it real bad--all over his body. It will be hard to tell if he has any new spots because they were everywhere. From what I understand, they can't live more than 3 days without human contact, and they can't move real fast on any surface other than the body, so hopefully we can stay ahead of it. I was very diligent with the cream and made sure we got it everywhere--under nails, between fingers and toes, etc. we kept it on for 14 hours, so it better do its job!

Well, it's been 10 days since we did the permethrin cream on the whole family and none of us have had any new spots, and DH's itchiness is all gone. The kids never got anything. I guess we were lucky and got it all early enough to kick it fairly easily. Thanks for all the tips!
