    Default Toddler sleeping on floor?

Of my sons moved into a toddler bed a few weeks ago. He's been fine at night but the last 2 evenings he slept on the floor in front of his door. He had been following us to the door when we said goodnight and then he would walk back to his bed. Now he seems to lay down right there. I googled and it seems like other kids have done this. Anybody else? It doesn't look like it would be very comfy- wondering how long other kids have done this?

My girls have been sleeping on the floor since last Friday and I don't see an end any time soon! Obviously they're not toddlers, but I take the same approach I did when they were. If they're sleeping, and seem to be fine in the morning-not over tired or complaining of soreness-then I let the sleep where they are. When they were little I used to go in and move them to their bed, but it didn't seem to make much difference in how they slept so I started just leaving them. I think it lasted a few months where one or the other of them would be on the floor every morning (they share a room) and like you, it started a bit after the move to an open bed.

Devon slept no the floor a few times when he moved into his converted crib/toddler bed. He quickly figured out that the bed was waaaay more comfy and then started sleeping there. I agree with Tif, if the kids are fine in the morning, i would just leave them.

All mine sleep on the floor probably more than they sleep in their beds most of the time. Some of it was them falling out of bed and not waking up, but most of the time they just take their pillow and blanket and move to the floor. The oldest 3 share a room right now so the beds and dressers take up most of the floor space, but they still find a way to squeeze down there. It doesn't seem to hurt their sleep much and it makes bed time way easier not having to fight with them so I just let them do it. My only rule on it is they can't sleep right in front of the door. That was my son's favorite place and I kept stepping on him when Kimber would wake up at night. For mine I think it's a statement of independence more than anything. They just like doing things their own way especially when it makes me roll my eyes and shake my head at them. I don't understand this one so I still do almost every night and it makes them laugh. Of course my DH prefers the floor to the bed most of the time too so maybe it's genetics. *shrugs*

My son did the same thing several times after we switched to the toddler bed. It must be pretty common. He didn't do it very long and now he always sleeps in his bed now.

Same here with my DD..I 'fought' it for the first couple of nights, caused far more stress, then left her to it.. like pp she soon worked out the bed was waay more comfortable lol. I'm about to transition DS and wondering if he will do the same....

DD did this for a while too when we switched her to her toddler bed. She grew out of it.

DD sometimes will sleep on the floor. Usually when it is hot, she just likes to sleep on the area rug in her room. I put down a blanket, a pillow and a light blanket. She has the choice every night to sleep in four spots. I'm not really strict about this, because I want her to be comfortable. She has her "big girl bed" - twin, the full sized futon bed that we keep in her room, the floor or our bed with us. I plan to get rid of her big girl bed or the futon bed at some point so she only has one bed option in her room... I keep it in there in case either DH and I need to sleep in there with her for some reason.

Preston enjoys sleeping on the floor. Most of the time its either in our room on the floor or in his room on the floor right next to his bed.

Well we are coming up on a week of floor sleeping. He seems to be getting great night sleep & naps. DH was kind of stressed at first but I really felt like we should not try to move DS and he's on board now. We even had house guests all weekend, which usually screws sleep routines, but all went smoothly!

DH used to do one night feeding when the boys were babies and would sometimes fall asleep on the nursery floor (waiting for them to fall asleep) afterwards- he thinks G is reliving happy times!! We used to call it the boys dormitory b/c I'd wake up a couple hours later and find him curled up on the carpet next to the cribs.

DS1 started sleeping on the floor out of necessity when we stayed at a small beach cottage and there was no space. (we set up a comfy space). Ever since then (last summer), he has chosen to sleep on the floor. I make it as comfy as I can for him. He loves it. He naps in his bed, though.

Mine ALWAYS did that!! Some days he still does. As long as your kiddo is sleeping, let it be. LOL

Avery does it some during naps...We recently made the switch to a toddler bed. She mostly sleeps in bed though. I didn't realize how common this was....
