Default I have to make a baby purchase

Seriously.... I NEED to buy something for this baby! What would you guys suggest so that this feels a bit more real, and can be used for either gender.

This. Or if you're looking for something small/inexpensive, plain white t's/onesies are good for boys and girls. It is so hard holding off. I'm due in less than a month but DH and I have been forbidden from buying anything else until after our shower this weekend. You do realize, everyone is going to want to shower you with lots of baby things and your due date gets closer. Enjoy the love!

How bout some sleep sacks or a rocking horse for the nursery?

We're going to build a bear soon and building a bear for this baby....I'll take pictures with it for each month once the baby is born. Sakura does this with her kids and I loved the idea so much.

I have already been buying stuff. I have gotten this http://www.amazon.com/Graco-Playard-...6501618&sr=8-3

And I already bought this nursery set well over a year ago. http://www.wayfair.com/Lambs-and-Ivy...n-LAI1747.html

I also have started crocheting a baby blanket. And I started making this http://www.janlynn.com/detail.cfm?ID=4345 DH and I both have christmas stockings that are similar made by our families when we were born. I will just wait to do the name until we know what we will be adding to the family.

I think sometime in the next 6 months tops, I will probably be picking up a travel system.

I have also window shopping for the nursery furniture and plotted out what we will be getting for that room. I just haven't bought that yet because it's not as easy to store in the closet and for now the nursery is our guest room.

Yellow or green one piece jammies. You'll be going through tons of those in the first few weeks. I've never met a diaper that could hold back newborn poops.

The lady who cuts my hair bought a childrens' book and wrote an inscription to the baby when she was pregnant, I always thought that was a neat idea.

How about a wrap, carrier, or sling? I am partial to Moby wraps for the beginning. I need something for the toddler years though. Once they get to 18 ish lbs I can't do the front of side carry in the Moby. I might go for an Ergo if I can find a cheap one.

The first thing I bought for Zora was one of those stuffed animal heads attached to a small blanket. If you've decided on a car seat you could get that and have plenty of time to learn to install it correctly. Otherwise onsies, sleepers, bibs, hats, mittens, and socks in gender neutral colors.

DIAPERS!!! You will always need them. We started stocking up on diapers before we found out we were pregnant with our first. I would buy a bunch of ones. When I thought I had too many (which I didn't have nearly enough) I would buys twos and some threes. The bigger sizes still came in very handy. When I thought she might need to go to a bigger size, I already had them on hand to try.

There are so many things to buy for a new baby! It's amazing what you will need and go through. Enjoy every minute of shopping!!!

Well I have been on a buying spree lately, mainly because I like to spread things out over time. I don't want to rely on my shower for everything, especially the big ticket items. Also, I really hope people don't buy a bunch of clothes for our baby because I have a list of Target items like breast pump, swing, rocker, etc....and need that more than clothes!
I am a few weeks ahead of you - find out sex next week but have still bought:
    1. chest of drawers for nursery (off-white, rustic look) will use for changing table also
    2. bookshelf (same style as above)
    3. Jenny Lind white crib
    4. Mattress, matress pad
    5. Wubanub pacis
    6. About 15 sleep gowns and sleep sacks for ages newborn - 9 months
    7. Some onesies, various ages
    8. Books at the used book store
    9. Diaper bag - Kate Spade
    10. Baby Moses basket - neutral lining/pad

The furniture items were delivered Monday and I think DH had a slight panic attack - he looked at me and said "wow, we are really having a baby" - it took stuff being in the nursery for this to "hit him". So yes, having gear around helps.

Also, I have already picked out my stroller/carseat - it will be black so I can use for next baby. Buying that regardless of sex next month.

    Hope that helps!

I'd buy a thirty one organizing utility tote from me! Am I allowed to say that? I know this isn't the member marketplace forum... But really, it makes a great extra bag or main diaper bag for all that baby stuff. But I'll admit I always felt kinda weird buying stuff for my first so "early." So for me this would kind of be like "oh, I can use it for the baby" when in reality it is something that could have many different uses. I'll tell you though, that thing is the best for visiting grandparents. Especially now with two, all the outside pockets accommodate two sets of monitors w/o jumbling up cords into a tangled mess and all the little things that need to be easily accessible. And the inside is big enough for extra diapers & covers (we use cloth, so it can be bulky), wetbag, 2 favorite blankeys, 2 loveys, and a couple books and a couple toys. Love it. Oh, it would also make a great bag for the hospital or birth center trip. Just b/c if I tell DH to get anything out of any bag, he complains that he can't find it! With the organizing utility tote, how can he not find something when I tell him very exactly that the thing I want is in left mesh outside pocket! Okay, sorry, I'll stop selling stuff...

Oh, also, cloth is super with newborn poops!

We got the furniture (just a portable sized crib) and car seat kinda later in the game. Yeah, those big items will definitely have the DH saying "Wow, we are really having a baby!" It certainly had me saying that. Seeing that crib set up in our room was like flashing lights and blaring sirens "You're going to be a mom! You're really going to be a mom!" lol!

I think you can't go wrong with some basic onesies, but keep in mind if you are having a shower, and you are finding out the gender, you will probably be overwhelmed with clothes. So I would pick out something that you can't easily get through a registry, maybe.
