I'm Heather - high risk due to my age and my daughter's rare blood disorder. There is at least a 25% chance the baby could be affected, too, and we might have to do fetal blood transfusions if the baby gets too anemic.

Hi! I'm considered high risk because of an auto-immune disorder, previous uterine rupture, and my "advanced age"

i'm technically considered high risk but my risk area is the first trimester......from there for me its smooth. now if i could just avoid the high blood pressure at the very end this time and have my vbac i'll be all good

They are calling me High risk. Mainly first trimester related but have to have heparin shots till delivery.

I don't think I knew this forum existed

I am considered high risk due to testing positive for Lupus (I don't have active Lupus - no symptoms). But due to some of the issues that can arise during pregnancy they treat me as if I have it. I have been taking Lovenox injections this whole pregnancy (from 15 weeks on with my previous) and get a lot of testing - fetal echoes, growth scans, biophysical profiles.

It's not so awful since thankfully I don't have any of the actual complications that come along with Lupus but it's a lot of appointments and testing. Pre-E is a danger as well so last pg I was induced at 38 weeks because they couldn't get my pressure and protein down. Protein has already been an issue this pregnancy so I am just hoping my pressure stays down. I wouldn't mind delivering at 38 weeks but I would like to do it naturally

    Why Heparin and not Lovenox?

IDK that was what the RE said. But the OB may say differently. I guess we will see.

Interesting. Heparin has a shorter half life so you have to do 2 shots/day, right? I switch to Heparin around 35 weeks in case I go into labor. You can actually give birth on Lovenox (depending on the dose you are on) but you can't get an epidural for some reason. That is why they switch - well, what I know of it. Lovenox is way less painful and comes in a really convenient pre-filled syringe. I hated it until I switched to Heparin and was like, "ok lovenox is awesome" lol.

yes 2x a day. and If they want me on lovanox then i will be glad to use it until birth cause that will give me more of a reason to avoid another epi because my last experience was horrible lol. I never not the reasoning why he wanted me on heparin instead but I am getting a new OB so I will see what she says on the issue.

See I thought about doing that mostly because Heparin sucked and I had soooooooo much trouble getting it covered by insurance! My insurance stinks. It took 2-3 weeks and then I finally paid out of pocket because I was 37 weeks along and was supposed to start at 35 weeks (when I tried to fill the script). I later got reimbursed the $200 out of pocket paid for it I also was only on it for 1 week because I was induced at 38 weeks! So the whole thing was just dumb.

I am hoping to go natural this time BUT I am not sure I want to totally eliminate any chance of an epi if I feel I can't take the pain anymore. My first was sunny side up and the back labor was so horrendous. To this day DH says he seriously thought I was going to rip the railing off the side of the bed I was grabbing it in agony! The epi totally saved me because I was finally able to relax, they broke my water (didn't feel a thing), I slept for 2-3 hours and when I woke up I was 10 cm! So while I know epis have the potential to stall your labor (happened with DD2!) they can also help relax you which is important for dilation to happen. So while I don't want an epi this time I want a c/s less (no offense to c/s people it's just a personal thing). So I don't want to totally eliminate the epi as a possibility.

I also had no issues with my epi so I can see not wanting to get one if you had a bad experience. I was given staydol with my last birth and I HATED it. It made me SO sleepy and did nothing for the pain. So it made me totally sleepy but I couldn't sleep because of the pain so it was torturous . I would never take that again! So I get having a bad experience with something....

See I only got the epi cause of back labor and now my back hurts all the time so I can learn to deal with the pain.

I'll be a c-section early because of my previous uterine rupture...sounds like I have it a little easier than some. Last pregnancy they didn't schedule the c-section early enough and i went into labor and ended up hemorrhaging. This time they'll be more careful... I have an early miscarriage risk as well, but since it's auto-immune there's nothing I can do but wait and pray.

I missed this thread as well!

I'm here....high risk due to lupus, sjogrens, borderline RA and raynauds and multiple losses including a twin this pregnancy (anti ssa + which can cause fetal heart block, if not caught early in utero baby will need a pacemaker at birth.) Right now I've been going for weekly ultrasounds at the MFM because the baby's heart is borderline abnormal--if it changes a little the wrong way I'll need to be treated for the heart block in baby.

I am on Lovenox injections as well.

I've seen the OB and MFM either every week or every other week the entire pregnancy....we live an hour away from them and the hospital so it's been difficult at times with all the traveling and appointments but so worth it. I switch back to every week shortly and will be induced at 38 weeks as long as nothing goes downhill prior to that. I'll also switch to Heparin at 35 weeks.

I'm here now too! Was hoping for an uneventful pregnancy, but no such luck. 1st son born at 26 weeks due to preterm labor without knowing why. In hospital for a month and a half with second son (born at 34 weeks) with previa. Now Pre-e at 28.5 weeks and 38 years old...and back in the hospital for the duration. Every child had to have his own diagnosis I suppose! Worried as this is brand new to me, even though I am in the best place I could be I suppose.

Hi. High risk due to 'advanced age', Sarcoidosis and Twins. I also never lost my last babies weight that I gained so I am way above the 'norm'. I have to take Prednisone (steroid) daily for the Sarcoidosis.

We had a massive bleed w/tissue at 6 weeks that we thought for certain was a miscarriage (had a chemical in November) and instead found out it was twins. Scary - but exciting. I just recently came off the Progesterone I had to be on. So nervous after coming off it. I am still checking daily for bleeding!

Not thrilled being H.R. as I have to see Dr's at our hospital not midwives

Hoping both these babies turn...so I do not have to have a Section. That is my biggest fear. Well that and them being premature.

Hi Im checking in! I am high risk due to preterm labor/birth. First child born I had PROM at 28 wks 6 days, in hospital until I gave birth at 29 wks 6 days, spent 29 days in NICU. 2nd child took 17P shots starting preterm labor at 30 wks, but was able to take terbutaline and keep her in until 35 wks 2 days, when she quit moving and failed a kick count, went in for NST and her heart rate was decelling and she was in distress. She was transverse in my belly, and she got caught in the cord, it was around her arm twice, neck twice and body once. I had intubated c-section, but she had NO NICU time! woohoo! Now Im pregnant with number three, taking 17P shots again! started contractions at 23 weeks, so have been on modified bedrest since 24. Currently 29 weeks pregnant and my cervix has been staying long! Getting cervical length checks every 2 weeks, and hoping to make to at least 35 weeks again!

Checking in, I'm Teresa and I was diagnosised with a brain tumor at the end of February, called a prolactinoma. I will be getting two MRI'd during this pregnancy to check on growth, since it feeds of Prolactin, which is at its highest during pregnancy. I won't start treatment until 6-7months after our baby is born, because I want to breasted, of course this is depended on how big the tumor gets.
