Default What I'm learning this week.

I love the fact that my pastor puts verses in the Bible in perspective by explaining what the culture was (and sometimes still is in the Middle East!) and its significance!

So last night I learned that in Jesus' day, only gentile slaves were allowed to wash feet, Jews never had this "job" so when Jesus washed His disciples' feet, wow!

And some of you are probably thinking, 'yeah, old news', but in case there was anyone who didn't know this, that's what I remember most from last night's service.

Have a Holy week and a Happy Easter ladies!

I didn't know that about Gentile slaves, either!

What I learned on Sunday (maybe this is old news to you guys) is that on Good Friday Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, which in Eastern tradition is an animal of peace. Kings would ride into a country on a donkey if they wanted to show they came in peace. They would ride in on a horse if they were coming for war.

But when He comes again for the last time, Revelation 19:11 says "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon it was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he does judge and make war."

Like Israel, we have this time now to accept Him. He is reaching out to us in love and peace. But our time is running out, just like Israel's did when they were destroyed 144 days later. Jesus wept over Israel because He loved them and wanted them to come to Him and be saved. He loves us and wants that for us, too.

I didn't know that about the gentile slaves either. I knew him washing his disciple's feet was supposed to be an act of subservience but it was a much bigger deal, wasn't it?
