Default Had my first ultrasound and there was just a sac no baby ?

I went to the er because i was having back pains and had not started my period. they ran several test and found out that i was at least 5 weeks pregnant but when they did my ultrasound all they could find was a sac and no baby. does this mean i am actually pregnant? or could the blood test be a false positive test? i could really use some advice.

You are not pregnant. The empty sac means the pregnancy that started wasn't viable. I'm sorry. The blood test was not a false positive - it was measuring the hormones that started to grow along with the baby.

I'm sorry, but you're not pregnant. As Gwenn said, the empty sac means it was not viable.

Not necessarily. If it's an early enough pregnancy you may just not be able to see a yolk sac or fetal pole yet. They should repeat an Ultrasound in 2-3 weeks to confirm.

Definitely this. 5 weeks is still real early. Sometimes the yolk sac or fetal pole isn't seen till after 6 weeks. And then the heartbeat till after 7 weeks.

When was your last period? Does 5 weeks sound about right?

I def wouldn't count yourself out. You may have ovulated late, late implant, off on your dates. Unless you think you should be way farther along. Lots of women go in and see nothing and go back a week later and find a healthy babe. Check out the misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com

This was not the case for me, but it is for a lot of women. Good luck.

Don't count it out yet - I had a friend who didn't see anything at 6 weeks and her son just turned 2 last weekend. Sometimes the dates are off or the baby just isn't showing when he or she "should".

Try to keep your chin up - but unfortunately, you're just gonna have to wait and see what happens. Best of luck!

I definitely agree that you shouldn't count yourself out yet! If you're just barely 4-5 weeks, it's too early to see anything!!!

It is absolutely incredible how much growth and change happens with the little beans in such short time periods. Definitely keep us posted!

Probably just too early to see anything at 4-5 weeks. Good luck!

Even at 6 weeks make sure they do a transvaginal U/S, its too early to see much transabdominally in most cases. GL, KUP!

The Beta number it self doesn't mean much but they need to retest in 48 hrs to see if it has doubled. I had a beta of 1050 at a little over 4 wks and they didn't see a baby, yolk, or fetal pole. Went back a week later found a baby and a heart beat. So I wouldn't worry about it because it's very very early. I feel that people shouldn't comment if they don't know what they're talking about.

    This!!!!! Wow!!

That early it's normal to not be able to see the baby yet. We couldn't see anything on this pregnancy until after 6.5 weeks.

Depends on how far along you are but makes sense for the ultrasound results because normally we can't see anything until a beta of at least 1000.

I've had 3 kids and have had early ultrasounds for #1 & #3, at around 6 wks both times. Birth times they were unable to see anything, but an ob knows that as long as your hcg is doubling, not seeing anything is not a sign of a non-viable pregnancy. In fact the doc warned me not to freak out both times. ER physicians are notorious for diagnosing threatened mcs, at least in my area among my friends. My poor sil was told that a little brown spotting and not seeing the baby on the screen at 5 wks meant she was miscarrying and the baby won't be healthy even if you keep it and she should consider removing the products of conception so she doesn't get an infection...good thing she didn't listen...my nephew is 7 now!

hey everyone i'm not sure if i should start a new post. but is slight cramping normal ??????? and has anyone ever heard of taking a pregnancy test once a week until app. date if you keep getting positives it means your hcg level is still climbing. but if you get two or more negatives you would have miscarried

Cramping is normal. Your uterus is stretching. I have not heard of getting two negatives you have miscarried. I think the better way to test would to have your HCG levels tested by blood levels, if they go down then that might indicate a miscarry.

Cramping is totally normal as long as there is no spotting. Have you gotten a negative test? If you've started getting negatives on the same brand you've taken before, it probably means you'll lose the pregnancy. But I've never had anyone recommend that as a diagnostic tool for miscarriage. Did your doc order a beta? I would call and request that instead of driving yourself crazy with tests.

I was CONVINCED most days before my first appt (my dr. wouldn't see me until 8 weeks) that I was miscarrying because of cramping. Totally normal. My dr. told me I shouldn't worry about a miscarriage unless I start bleeding enough to fill a pad and change it. Brown spotting doesn't even count in her book.
