Default Looking to buy an elliptical

Does anyone have any recommendations for a budget friendly elliptical? I don't need all of the bells and whistles, just a basic machine.

    TIA!

My dad just got one. It's old but was top of the line when it was new. It has a manual dial for the resistance and at first i didn't think I'd care for it after using the ones at the gym. But I've used it this week and have been happy with it.

Just wanted to throw that out there. He paid $100 for this one off Craigslist and while not new, it is in like-new condition despite being so super basic.

I owned a Pro-Form elliptical that I bought at Sears when it was on sale. I think it was $289 new. I loved it but I sold it when I had to choose between my treadmill and the elliptical. The elliptical just didn't burn as many calories. You might be able to find a good use Pro-Form on Craig's List, but I personally would never buy a used workout machine.

I got a brand new one from Play it again sports (and they delivered and set it up). It's a Horizon brand. Not the cheapest one but also not the more epensive one. It's this one http://www.amazon.com/Horizon-Fitnes...6215455&sr=8-1 I REALLY like it. It's very sturdy and easy to use. I highly recommend going to a couple of places like sears and sporting goods stores and try them out. I found some were really hard to get on and off or the stride was too long for me or the pedals were not close enough together to feel comfortable.

And Dayna I am really confused but I personally burn WAY more calories in the same amount of time on the elliptical vs the treadmill. Plus it's way easier on my knees and feet (prone to heel spurs).

Now to just get back on track of going in the basement and using it on a regular basis.......

I also burn more calories on the elliptical. Like 50-75% more so it's a huge difference for me. And yeah, way easier on my knees and my problematic hip.

I guess I don't have a problem buying used exercise equipment if I've seen it and see that it really truly is in the condition as advertised. The one my dad got was still in the box. Probably five to seven years old, but still as if it was brand new.

I personally haven't burned more calories using an elliptical. Even at the gym the calories burned has been less, but only about 40-50 calories less in a 45min workout. Could be I am not working out at the same level of intensity or something. IDK. Either way, they are great for working out for all the reasons listed and I wasn't trying to put it down as an exercise by any means.

I am very particular about my exercise equipment and just prefer that I am the only one who has ever used it. So if it was still in the box, never opened, that wouldn't be an issue. I think that is awesome that your dad found one like that!

Edit: It was bothering me that I had been burning less calories on my elliptical and I was starting to wonder if I made a wrong decision selling it and keeping my treadmill! But when I researched it I found out that my experience is not uncommon.
