Question Pos HPT/ Neg Doc Test ??? Confused?!

Ok, now i'm officially confused. Over the weekend I took 4 pregnancy tests (2 drug store brands and 2 First Response Early Response) All tests came back with faint positives (pink or blue lines) However the First Response Tests were most noticeable. I had a doctor appointment this morning and took a urine test and it came back Negative?! I told him that I had the positive pregnancy tests and he dismissed it like I was imagining things. My last period was December 5th and it's still not here but I do have tender breasts, mild cramping and fatigue. Not TTC, but would like to know whats going on?! Has this happened to anyone else???

My doc wouldn't see me until I was 8 weeks along so they didn't test me until then. I had positive HPT's and no period so I went with it until my appointment. Sometimes the HPT's are more accurate than the doctors urine tests and can detect pregnancy earlier. I wouldn't stress, take another test at the end of the week and if its positive call and make an appointment. In the meantime I would say your pregnant so make sure you take a prenatal vitamin everyday, avoid alcohol, and drink lots of water.

My dr. doesn't do a pregnancy test to confirm (unless you're high risk or having troubles). She told me that the OTC HPT are more sensitive than the tests they do in their office. If the HPT says you are pregnant, then you are pregnant. (And since you did 4 of different brands all with the same result, that seriously decreases the chance of it being a false positive which are rare enough as it is!)

This! But if you are just really worried, call your dr back and tell them you WANT a beta drawn to confirm either way. I don't see that they'd have a problem with that. It's you having to pay for the test, not them. Good luck!!! Keep us posted.

This! I'd actually take another home pregnancy test and bring it into them, show them and demand a beta (quant, not qualitative).

Unless the doc did a blood test, I wouldn't hold ANY weight to theirs being negative if your'e getting positives at home. Some of the HPTs are just as good, if not better, than the docs tests now, lol.

If you keep getting positives at home and AF doesn't come in a few more days, I'd go back to the doc and request a blood test.

Thank you ladies, that makes sense. I took the test at my family doctors office, I actually have an appointment with my ob/gyn scheduled for tomorrow for a my yearly exam (how convenient!), hoping she can provide me with some answers and give me the blood tests that you all have suggested. Our doctors have to confirm a pregnancy due to insurance reasons.

I agree with the others. I've also heard that HPTs are more sensitive than the ones they use in doctor's offices; and with four positive HPTs from different brands, I'd say you're pregnant. I would definitely talk to your OB/GYN tomorrow at your appointment and ask them to run a blood test. Best of luck!
