Default Anyone doing an advent wreath and mini advent service at home during Christmas?

Or is my love of some Roman Catholic vestiges of my youth showing? We've been doing an advent wreath at home on Sundays in advent and DD loves it.

It is amazing how much she is soaking up our religious traditions at such a young age.

I haven't really gotten into advent stuff yet. Some people I know do a Jesse tree, and that looks neat. I'm not sure if that is similar or not.

I looked up a Jesse tree and that is a different animal. The advent wreath is a much older tradition I think.

Yes, I haven't heard of a Jesse tree. I will have to google THAT one! This is soooo materialistic of me but the Advent wreath from the church I grew up in was so much more beautiful than the one at the church where I am now. Kinda makes me sad, and it makes me sad that that makes me sad. Gah.

Our church has been doing an Advent wreath. I stumbled upon a great book, at the Goodwill, all about Advent, by "Blair" from "The Facts of Life" She's married to a pastor and it really is a great book explaining where Advent traditions began.

We do a nativity at home and next year will probably do an Advent calendar. We do use an Advent wreath at church and do the corresponding readings. A little OT, but did Lisa Welchel ("Blair") have something advocating hot saucing? Seems like I remember that, but it may have been a rumor.

    Ugh, yep, 'twas her:

    Her site: http://www.lisawhelchel.com/archives.htm#

She mentions the "hot sauce ordeal" but one of the archives doesn't come up.

The advent wreath isn't just a Catholic tradition. Many Protestant churches do it too! We do one at home every year. Dd doesn't seem to interested in it really but we do it anyway.

Oh I know that, but I was raised Roman Catholic and we did one at HOME in addition to the one at church. All my protestant friends thought we were a bit nutty!
