    Default Threatened Miscarriage

Anyone ever heard of this? I'd like some input.

Not sure what you are wanting to know about it. With my current pregnancy, I am some spotting around 8 weeks and went to the ER. They gave me IV fluids, did a u/s, and then told me it was threatened m/c and that at that point there was nothing they could do about it. Threatened m/c just means that you can miscarry not that you will. I am now 36 weeks and obviously did not miscarry.

Well I researched on it but I still wasn't sure exactly what it was and anything like that.

it is basically when they think you might have some symptoms of a possible miscarriage, like spotting, bleeding, severe cramping but a miscarriage has not fully occurred. Sometimes it ends in miscarriage and sometimes it doesn't.

Here's the thing: I had light bleeding 1.5-2 days. Not even a pad a day. No pain, no cramping, and no passing tissue. Had one positive test and after that, some negatives. Haven't taken any recently, so I don't know anything. I was just curious.

I would take another test, if it is positive, make an appt with your OB/GYN. if it is negative, you may have been pregnant and miscarried very early, it is more common than people think, unfortunately

That's what I'm afraid of, but is also what I plan to do. I had a baby before; she just turned 19 months but due to extenuating circumstances (and an abusive ex) I gave her up to be adopted. So this baby means a lot to me.

I too, am wondering if I may have just experienced a Threatened Miscarriage... I am completely new to this pregnancy game, so all I have been relying on at the moment are a mountain of internet articles and information websites!

I bought an ovulating kit at the beginning of November... tested negative 5 times until Nov 24th...got excited to see that my pending period was 2 days late (was supposed to be Dec 8)... and then just yesterday I experience heavy bleeding- but with odd colors (pinkish/brownish) then bright red some clots, irregular cramping, and a lot of mucus than a regular period... From what I read, it is almost a textbook case of Threatened Miscarriage, but at the same time, sounds a lot like Implantation Bleeding - considering that I have many early pregnancy symptoms, nausea, swollen/sensitive breasts, this is my first time 'trying', etc, and it also took place 2 days after my expected period was for the month... But at the same time, this could also simply be just 'another' actual period...

Any comments or ideas on what this could be? I realize there could be a dozen variables as to why I may not be pregnant yet, but just wondering if this happened to anyone before? I guess my next steps would be to keep testing (both ovulation and pregnancy) over the next week when my period subsides (and upcoming months), and of course, to see if I skip my next period in January... Should I just hang in there for now, or do you suggest that I see my doctor to truly find out that had happened?

You can only have a threatened miscarriage after a doctor confirms you are pregnant. Many pregnancy symptoms are also PMS symptoms and we just notice them more because we are trying. Sounds like you just got your period. A doctor can't tell after the fact if you had a chemical. Just see how your cycle is next month.

Threatened m/c is just a catch-all term they use when you have bleeding / spotting / cramping when you're pregnant, the baby is alright and they never figure out what caused the bleeding.
I had spotting once with DD and twice with this pregnancy and the classified it as a threatened m/c. I really wouldn't get stuck on the term, I think it's kind of a fluff term.

baholcomb - I know you had asked before about chemical pregnancies... are you thinking now that you didn't have on and you may still be pregnant? I would really suggest getting into the doc for a blood test in that case. They will be able to tell you a lot and should be able to give you answers.

Hopeful - I doubt that was implantation bleeding - that is usually much lighter and doesn't usually involved mucous. I'd say it's more likely that you had a chemical pregnancy. Have you taken a HPT lately? If your bleeding seems like AF and you're showing a negative on the HPT then I would just assume it's your period and go on trying next month. And don't get discouraged - they say it's normal for couples with NO fertility problems to take up to 12 months getting pregnant. It took DH and I 8 months with DD and then only 2 with this pregnancy. So don't get upset if it takes a while.
If you want to up your chances, try doing your BBT also. I had to temp and use OPKs both pregnancies to get pregnant (as well as one pregnancy that I ended up m/cing). www.fertilityfriend.com is a GREAT site for helping with tracking your BBT.

I am hoping it was not a chemical pregnancy. I've been meaning to get to a doctor, but my mom-in-law passed away suddenly and my dad-in-law ended up in the hospital. Lots of stuff happened at once. He's out but we're all trying to get caught up. I haven't taken anything lately though. But when I lay down, it still feels like I am laying on a bump or lump.

That's horrible, I"m sorry for your and DH's loss! That is a lot to deal with!

I'd take another HPT. If it shows up positive then you're still pregnant... if it's negative, I'd chalk it up to a chemical and keep trying next month. Just watch if you continue spotting because that could either mean you are pregnant and may have a problem or your body didn't completely clean out after a chemical and you'll need a D&C.

Best of luck! Let us know how it goes!

Do you think that I was spotting? I believe I was just because I've always had normal periods and never anything like what I've experienced in the past 2 months. We plan on to keep trying.

Seems like it - you could have ovulated late and it could have been implantation bleeding, you never know. But if you didn't need a pad or anything, i wouldn't call it AF. Have you taken another HPT?

I had a threatened miscarriage with my youngest. I had unexplained bleeding off and on for two weeks.

I haven't yet. The closest store is 20 minutest (13 miles of curvy roads) and I don't want to use up gas. My husband's supposed to get some tests cause he went into town but keeps forgetting. I have another question for you all.....I am having cervical tenderness. Is that common?

Not sure, never really heard of that. But if you think you might be pregnant stop touching your cervix anyway, don't want an infection!
