    Default Heaven is For Real

Have any of you read this book? A patient of mine gave me a copy and I it!

I have struggled a lot in my life about the whole "Heaven vs Hell" thing. I have hope that we will all go to Heaven and live an everlasting life but I also worry about some of my family members.

My mother died after a 102 day battle with cancer. After she attempted radiation she was in sooooo much pain for the next 2 months that I told her to take things into her own hands. I personally believe someone should be able to receive as much morphine as a person needs to control their pain with a terminal illness regardless of the effect it has on their respirations and if it hastens things so be it!

My mother would not take more than her prescribed dose b/c she was afraid if she died from it her Higher Power would view it as suicide and sentence her to an eternity in hell. While I disagree I respected her decision to bear the pain for the following months. (She was not able to go to Hospice, her insurance did not cover it and I know in Hospice they would have controlled her pain!)

Also, my little brother died of a heart attack at 27. We were raised by my grandmother who was of a different faith which strongly contrasted with our childhood beliefs so, in a sense it made us turn away from church as adults. I have worried about his afterlife.

This book was awesome and gave such insight into Heaven that I think it is a must read for all Christians!

Anyone else have thoughts on the book?

You have dealt with a lot in your life. I understand worrying about loved ones' eternity. I can empathize. I feel heartbroken and struggle with the same concerns in regard to my own family.

My MIL loves this book, too. She insisted on reading several chapters to me and my SFIL outloud (while bawling hysterically through it). Unfortunately, I am not a fan. I am a huge skeptic, and I think there are things that don't really line up with Biblical teaching. I think it is a book that tugs at people's heartstrings, but is superficial at best.

Sorry. It might have been better for me to stick with the "if you can't say something nice..." mantra and not posted my opinion at all. But you asked for thoughts, so I hope its ok even though I have a different opinion on it.

I've read the book and really enjoyed it. I didn't really find any contradictions to scripture at all. It certainly was a quite moving book with such a small child so very ill and the bit about his sister that his mom miscarried. If I recall, my DH is also a skeptic.
