Kids have been off school since last Wednesday and I haven't managed to get to the gym since then. Looking forward to getting back to it tomorrow!

I did finally manage to break through out of the 19's. 189.4 this morning! I'm getting so close to 10% being gone. Only 7 more pounds to go

189.2 this morning. Yeah. .2 in over a month. Go me To give myself credit, though, I haven't got back in the groove since my kids were off for a week in October. I got sick that week and had 3 back to back colds and am only now feeling some semblance of good. AND I gained back up to 195 in that process. I weighed in last Wednesday at 195.6 and by Monday when I got on the scale to assess the holiday weekend damage I was expecting to literally be back up to my start of 202 because I didn't track at all. I didn't expect to almost be at my low! Between Wed and Monday I went down 5.7 pounds!

So I'll take my .2 loss and be happy with it! When I get down 7 more pounds I'll have hit my 10% of my body weight mark! I am back at the gym although I am having to do non-weight bearing exercises. I am having hip issues that the PT says is a chronic strained sacroiliac joint and he doesn't think it will get better until I give it a good long rest. So I am trying to learn to love the bike. Maybe I'll be successful at a spinning class through all this!

There's a lot to be said for maintaining when you have a lot of stuff going on! Good luck getting to 10%. I don't know much about hip issues but I'd be careful about making it worse/delaying healing. I figure that you always have the chance to lose wgt but you have big problems if you end up with chronic pain.

Yeah, I'm babying it. It doesn't seem to be the movement itself bugging it so much as the weight bearing with the movement and the stride length. The elliptical is horrible since the stride is a fixed stride. If I do fast tiny steps on the treadmill it's ok, but still aggravating and same thing if I do the incumbant (sp?) bike where I'm pushing forward. If I use a traditional bike where I'm seated directly above my feet it doesn't seem to bother it because my stride is up and down and not forward.

Well, one thing I can say for myself is that I'm really good at maintaining, even through the holidays

Back to the gym last week. Met with the trainer and talked to him about my hip. He changed some things in my routine and I love it. My hip hasn't bugged me since Christmas. I know, not long, but the longest I've had it feeling good in a few years! But now my shoulder is bugging out. About 2 years ago I injured it just doing 5lb hand weights and had to get cortisone shots in it and PT and all that. It's been super good, and I've only been using 2.5lb weights because I'm paranoid about hurting it again. But it's really bothering me. I met with the trainer on Wednesday and we talked about my shoulder and he modified the one exercise that was seeming to aggravate it. That's gone well, but now it's just fatigued. Like all day every day even on my off days. Just raising it up and holding it to play the piano-which isn't much raise on the shoulder at all-is really bothering it. I am sure it's just weak muscles and I know I need to build them, but I'm so paranoid about really hurting it bad again!

My whole left side is so weak compared to my right. It used to be pretty much the same-I was a "switch hitter" in tennis in high school and would use my left arm as much as my right to play. But my left triceps is so weak. I could be doing twice as much weight on my extensions for my right but my left is struggling with where I'm at. I am sure it stems from me babying my shoulder so I think I'm just going to push through it.

Question-heat or ice on something like my shoulder after working out? Anyone know?

I would say ICE. I would never heat it, it definitely feels better when you do it but its mostly inflamation that is hurting it and putting an ice pack is the way to go according to me. When I used to workout really hard and had a trainer she would always ask me to ice my knee till the next workout, it really did make a difference.

    Good luck!

Ive been icing and while it doesn't seem to feel better, it definitely isn't any worse, so I'll take it!

I met with my trainer for the last time unless I ante up and buy more sessions. We'll see if I do. He coached me through a 20 minute spinning cycle. His daughter is the spin instructor in Saturday mornings and he said if I come he'll sit by me and help me know how to modify it to not bug my hip but also to help me keep my heart rate in a good range. So we'll see how that goes.

Personal training is expensive!!! Back in Austin my trainer @ work would charge $20/hr which was very affordable for a PT and then once I moved to Seattle it is north of $60/hr ....seriously?!!???!! I know TX is cheaper but this is just nuts.

Leverage your trainer as much as you can. If he can help you with the spin class, that would be awesome. It is a great way to lose weight. I somehow am not very fond of spinning classes because they start bothering my knee.

    Enjoy!

I swear every time I get in a good groove...someone gets sick. Usually me. I am finally over a two week cough and achey cold. I did push myself to workout this week, but didn't touch a workout last week. This week we are staying at my Mom's while they are in Holland so I've been able to jump on the treadmill and do 30 minutes after the girls are at school and again after they're in bed. I kind of like doing the two workouts. It's easier for my attention span than trying to be a full hour in! I'm usually bored-even with a book and music-by 30 minutes. This mornin instead of that I went to the gym and did an intense 35 monte HIIT routine and then 25 on the bike. Hoping to get another 30 in on the elliptical before bed, but not sure I'll fit it in. I have to deliver a dog to the airport at 9 and it's an hour back home so I'll probably be beat!

I haven't made a morning spin class yet. I should have gone this morning but spaced it. Hopefully on Saturday I can make my spinning debut!

Now I am off to fix a fence and breed a dog that's in heat so the stud will quit his yowling at her!

I never made it to the gym today like I planned. I even wore my workout clothes all day hoping to be able to snag the time. Darn. But I did just take the dog for a half mile jog down to the school and then half mile home. And once the girls are in bed I think the elliptical and I will have a date.

Spaghetti with gf pasta tonight for dinner. I had toast and peanut butter with a banana for lunch and a smoothie for breakfast. I think I'm going to go and snack on some sugar snap peas for right now, too.

Are you still planning your spinning debut sat? I've never done a spinning class. Sounds like you had a good day, meal-wise.

I hope to. We are house sitting at my parents' right now which is only five minutes from the gym (our house is 20) so it would be perfect. But DH is playing bridge tonight and isn't sure if he's going to make the drive out here afterward since he won't be done until about midnight. If he comes, I'm making myself go in the morning. If he doesn't come I can't go, but I will still go down to the gym later in the day once he gets here.

My SIL has been wanting to go to the spinning class and I'm debating texting her to see if she wants to go with me. She's I'm super awesome shape (has lost 120 pounds in the last 18ish months) and I know I will be struggling and I'm a bit self-conscious about that.

This is my face about 10 minutes after finishing my spin class. I was so purple! But it felt so good. I modified a few jog/3rd sets and just stayed in the saddle through them instead. I think I need to not take drinks during the workout. I just about threw up and I'm pretty sure it was partially due to the water I sipped on. But I did it!!!

Urgh. It won't show up. But trust me-it's purple!

Awesome girl.....so proud of you. I know when I am exercising I am sweating and am sure that going all purple right then but the feeling one gets after a great workout keeps you going for the rest of the day.

Super job!!!! Yeah it is a good idea to hydrate yourself through out the day before the workout. You not feel super thirsty during the session then. I usually feel puckish after spin classes too....I think it's the position that we are in while working out that makes us feel that way.

Thanks. My husband told me he usually makes sure to drink quite a bit in the two hours or so leading up to his workout and then after, but not during. Never occurred to me to do that!

For me working out is so mental. I have a hard time running on treadmills because my brain wanders and is bored staying in one place. When I tried a spin class before I had my heart rate monitor on and I think I sort of obsessed over how high it was getting because I was still having some pretty intense tachy episodes. So today I didn't wear the monitor. And I'm positive my heart was pushing 190-it felt the way it feels when it's done that before-but my trainer who was in the class assured me that as long as it comes back down which it does. I might put it on next time and just make sure I have the alarm off for when I go over 170. I do need to remember my inhaler for next time though.

Good for you! Sounds like hydrating more next time will help. I can only think of one time ever where I thought I was going to be sick after working out really hard. I'm kind of a wuss I bet you will get in really good shape if you keep up with it!

I was hoping to make it in to the gym this morning to do a HIIT routine but I realized it's the end of the month which means I have some things I have to get done at work before tomorrow. So instead I will just use the elliptical at my parents' this evening. I have a full busy day and won't be able to get at it until 8 or later-I don't really like exercising at night but it will have to do! We are staying out at my parents' tonight so I can see how things go with me going to spinning in the morning on T/TH before the girls have school. Living 20+ minutes from school can make for crazy mornings and while I chose the gym location based on the girls' school location, sometimes I wish there was one closer to home. It's so frustrating having to make big changes in our schedule to try and accomodate the gym, but right now I feel like it might be worth it. I know for so many people group classes have been the big difference in their fitness and weight loss. I've been a member of at least 8 different gyms over the past 10 years and Saturday was the first group class I've EVER gone to so I am curious if I can make it work for me. Luckily we have bedrooms and clothes and toiletries at my parents' house so I only have to remember backpacks!

Breakfast was an egg with some chopped bell peppers scrambled with it and a glass of milk (chocolate...I cannot bring myself to drink white milk!). Lunch will be a green smoothie and a string cheese. Dinner-Keira and I are going out to dinner together. She's eating GF and I'm watching what I eat...so we'll be quite a pair! I think we're going to go to Baja Fresh-a fresh Mex place-and I will have a naked chicken and rice burrito maybe.

I made it to spinning this morning! 5:30am is so early. But I feel so good! I got home and got the girls ready for school with enough time left over for us to walk the 1/3 mile down there with the dog!

I'm on a big tuna kick right now. Joni posted a tuna patty recipe in her thread that I'm going to try. Mostly what I've been doing with it is chopping up cilantro and squeezing the juice of one lemon over a can of tuna and mixing it up. Eating 1/2 of that with 1/2c of cottage cheese and some fruit...yummy lunch!

My scale hasn't moved in weeks. Since Thanksgiving, really, so I guess months. I got on it today (tomorrow's my official weigh-in day) and I went from 193.8 last Wed to 191.1 today! This isn't a huge loss, but it's more than I've had in two months so I'll take it!

Yay for spinning & yay for dropping a couple pounds! Exercise is a great way to get your day off on the right foot. I'm sure that if you stick with it your scale will keep moving and you'll feel great!

Hats off to you for doing an early morning workout. I am still struggling wtih M's sleeping through the night and waking up in the morning is a distant dream!

I enjoy spinning but end up having knee issue on a stationary bike. It is great workout. If you can keep up with it, you will love it. Good job!

Oh I don't get a full night sleep, either. Scharae is almost 6 and still is up at least twice if not three times. But I don't see that changing anytime soon so I've decided to just buck up and make this work!

Last night was my grandparents' birthday party and we had a fish fry. I only ate like five 2" chunks of fish and two or three onion rings. But my SIL made an amazing banana cake and I couldn't resist! I am sure I went over my daily points, but I had like 55 activity points earned and my 49 flex points so I am sure I was fine.

This morning I did some circuit strength training for 35 minutes and then 20 minutes on the treadmill at 4mph, 6.4 incline. Tomorrow morning is spin again.
