Have any of you ladies tried Shade clothing?

A friend of mine in Bountiful buys their stuff at Costco there. My SIL in ID loves it. My mom even just placed an order! I'm thinking of getting some. I love layering, but I have a hard time finding tank tops that are as long as I want...and have been tempted to even stick with wearing a Bellaband, even though I'm not pregnant!

I haven't, but I know some people here who love their stuff. Come to think of it, looking at the site, I'd say about half the people in our ward who moved from UT or ID dress like that.

We had like a lesson in RS or stake conference or who knows what, about how the stake president didn't want the YW or the sisters to wear shirts that hung out underneath other shirts, like long layered shirts. I can't actually recall if that was here or where we used to live. I thought it was kind of odd at the time. But a lot of people still wear them. Maybe I misunderstood what he was saying.

That's odd...the only thing I can think of is not letting your longer garment tops hang down and be part of the layering....geez. I think I will have a very very hard time if layering is thrown out. I'm not even being facetious. I had a hard time at Ricks not being able to wear flip flops, overalls, capris, shorts. IMO if layering helps modesty...it's gotta be doing something good, right!?

What? You can't wear those things at Rick's??? All I knew was no short-shorts, no short skirts, short haircuts for guys, etc. at BYU. I had no idea they were so hardcore up in Idaho too!

Oh and seriously, about the Jello -- the first time I saw green Jello and carrots was at a ward potluck right after I was baptized and it was disgusting! Who on earth LIKES that stuff???

I'm in Utah and there are a few companies like that. Shade is very popular, I have a few shirts from there. My favorite place to get tanktops is Down East Outfitters. They are not as expensive as shade. My new favorite though is Modbe. I just got a swimsuit from there and LOVE IT. I love their pants too, but they are a little pricey. My friend is a consultant so gets them for me for half off.

There are some other ones too, but I can't think of them right now. I would go crazy without layering. I have so many different color tanktops to go under everything now. Shade also has some nice maternity shirts. I had a few when I was pregnant and they were my favorite to wear. They are about the same as the regular shirts, but longer.

Example #1 - a woman said in her Gospel Doctrine (yes DOCTRINE not PRINCIPLES) the question came up about who do we pray to, Jesus Christ or Heavenly Father. And most people said, and agreed, that it's Jesus Christ! What??? I mean, that's pretty clear in the Gospel Principles manual. Plus, common sense.

Example #2 - there were a few ladies who thought masturbation was fine, and that since it's not in the scriptures (nevermind several latter day prophets' words) that it's wrong then it's not a sin. One even said if we taught YW it's okay to masturbate, there would be fewer teen pregnancies.

    Wow.

I'm not saying I know it all, or that I'm such kind of sexual purist , but heck at least I feel like I know the doctrine of the church a bit more than that. And I'm a convert!

    Crazy stuff.
Uh, I don't even know what to say to that. I thought church teachings were pretty clear on both of those.

Oh, and the green jello thing with carrots :X

I might be smokin crack about the layering. Now I'm thinking it was general conference but THAT can't be right... what is up with me? I'll see if I can find anything about it, and if I do, I'll post. I'm thinking it was more along the lines of wearing a shirt that has a lacy edge under another shirt and it kind of looks like a chemise or other type of underwear sticking out. Not sure if I'm making any sense.

So the Shade shirts are like $22 a piece? Are they that good? I rarely spend more than $10 for a shirt. All of mine end up terribly stained, or ripped, or worse...

I don't know how good they are yet. I'm thinking about getting one or two, though. Not the ones that are meant to be worn as actual shirts, though. See, I don't mind spending a little more on the tanks to go under because I can wear them with everything, so I feel I get more bang for my buck!

Now, I do seem to possibly remember hearing something about wearing the lingerie styles that are out these days. I know in HS we layered spaghetti strap tanks over short sleeved tees. I've seen people doing that with the tops that look like bedroom wear...maybe that's what they were talking about? Personally, I love the tanks with the lacy bottom edge...

That is all my girls wear, the tanks with lace on the bottom under EVERYTHING! We just bought 6 tanks for them to share this past weekend at downeast, we have a stand in the mall here. I love it, then their little bums are not sticking out the top of their jeans or capris when they bend over or sit down.

I heard about this one too! I think it was referring to the one's with lace on the top and bottom, because it looked like lingerie (I know, scandalous...) and could possibly be provocative.

I love the Shade shirts at Costco! I actually wore them throughout my pregnancy (just a regular one, not a maternity one) and then after my pregnancy they were my only shirts that didn't seem too short (because I was a little wider). They're great!

    All right! I'm not nutso!

    Well, not about that, anyway.

I just remember thinking, sheesh, so many rules for the YW... where are the rules for the YM aside from 'wear a white shirt and a tie'??? Our former Stake president didn't let his daughters wear denim to church at all (but kinda funny, I noticed 2 of them who'd grown up, married, and moved away, wearing denim when they came back to visit! ), and we had the bishop tell our YW not to wear white t-shirts without an undershirt (you can maybe see her bra!), and not wear shirts with any kind of writing across the front, because boys will stare at their breasts to read it.

Some people think flip-flops at church is a faux pas. I had an old lady stare me down because I was wear mary jane style crocs last summer.

I need to think about this layering phenomenon. Maybe I"m really missing the boat eh?

So I did a double take at what my grandma wore to church on Sunday. We were there for lunch afterwards. She had on a cream lacy shirt. I happened to have one very similar to it in my clubbing days...although much tighter and more revealing. Anyhow, it had a layer of material down the entire front, but not the back. So here's my 70yo grandma at church and everyone could see her bra and garments on the back...maybe she wore a blazer, but I don't really think so...

Now I see where you get it, Tif.... :celebrate:

I've seen that before too. Noticing when I'm sitting behind an older lady, that there's a patch of lace on her blouse where her bra & garment are totally visible. I think there must be an age when you're very young - like under eight years old - and you just do not care what you wear. Then again when you're over 70 or so, again you just don't care anymore!

Dude, I'll probably be the 70yo that "doesn't care anymore" just so that I can break the rules and know no one (except maybe John) will say anything to me about it! I have this horrible habit that I can't shake...I like to have some sort of rebellion going on! Oh, and I have a nickname from my best friend in the world Jason...see-thru slut...

Just to butt in on the convo I have noticed this also in church. Old ladies wearing lacy stuff, and you can totaly see their garments and bra. Do they really think this is ok?

Nevermind about the garments.... old ladies showing undies is never cool.

So, for the next two weeks I get to sub in Lucy's primary class, then the week after that in Nursery! Yeehaw! I'm trying to have a positive attitude about it. After those three weeks we go on vacation & we aren't going to church during our trip because we'll be at a wedding (ironic isn't it? ) so I'll get a little break.

Hey ladies, what kind of screening tests have ya'll had during pregnancy? I'm only 10 weeks but I'm high risk. Katrina, I served my mission in Utah and recall the culture quite well. It is different there and I'm so grateful for people there who understand the real importance of their callings etc. LDS members are watched constantly and everyone can tell & gets an impression (good or bad more easily in Utah) of what callings mean to us from watching the members. So keep doing your best, despite other's flaws. Someone's always watching and it means a lot to them and to the missionaries & of course Heavenly Father.

    Thanks

Thanks emi_lysemail, and welcome to APA!! It helps to have a reminder that we can have missionary experiences just by being an good example of what the church is and stands for. Where did you serve in Utah?

So I've been thinking a lot about Tif. I'm sure she is so overwhelmed right now and I was wondering what you ladies thought about having a special fast for her and her family this Sunday, (if you don't mind of course, Tif). If Sunday doesn't work, maybe some other day of the week. Let me know what you think.

Also...we leave for Girls Camp this Monday, wish us luck and good weather. I won't be on here much, this is my last day at work and then I'll be packing and getting things ready to go. Eeeek, I am so excited! I'll check in and let everyone know how it went when we get back.

What a very sweet idea Katrina! Of course I read this now.... 3:30pm on Sunday... but I'm there with you in spirit. I bet today was hard especially for John. It was hard for ME to sit and listen to all those "my dad is so great" talks and I'm not even in the same situation.

Did everyone go today? We only had sacrament meeting because our stake president had asked for people to go to Terre Haute, Indiana, where they've had major flooding damage, and help clean up. They wanted people Saturday & Sunday. We didn't go - obviously - no one organized any kind of child care co-ops or anything (which I thought would have been a great idea but wasn't enthusiastic enough to actually do myself!). So they canceled 2nd and 3rd hours so people who have to teach Primary and other stuff could feel free to go over there. We felt bad we couldn't go, but then David said, "There will be a time in our lives when we CAN do stuff like that, and this will just make us want to do it even more. When our kids are older, we'll all go and help out. They're just too little right now." He's right, I know he's right. Still you feel like a lazy bum when half your ward is missing and you know it's not because THEY are lazy bums.

We went. John had to teach and it was both EQ and HP quorums together. I think he actually did ok. He's often pretty good at acting like things are fine.

I'm doing pretty good, actually. I'm pretty confident that this has all happened how it's supposed to. It does bring back guilty feelings, though. It wasn't until my water broke and all that had started happening with Taela that I realized that I really did want another baby. I spent the first 23 weeks resenting the pregnancy, not being excited and actually being freaked out/disappointed/angry. And of course that made for a lot of guilt-what if I'd had positive thoughts?-and so feeling relieved over this kind of sends me over there again. But I think it's more of the lines between the two crossing and fuzzing. I'm ok, though.

Physically I'm great. Like really great. This m/c hasn't been nearly as rough as the two I've had in the past, which is a blessing for sure.

Hope you all had a great Sunday!

We went to visit the in-laws and went to their ward. Vaughn refused to take his normal nap during church...so there was a lot of sitting out in or walking around the halls. Since we only have the one, we were able to take turns though. Vaughn wouldn't let the dh's parents hold him for some reason. Even though on Mother's day he calmly let MIL hold him for the entire sacrament meeting. Only two more months until nursery age!

I'm glad you are feeling okay, Tif.

The last few months before 18 months are a killer aren't they? Our primary is letting parents of kids who are 12-18 months use one of the empty classrooms during the 2nd & 3rd hours if we need to. They put a few toys in there, and the parent has to stay with the kid, but it's better than roaming the halls. For five months last spring/summer we had two under 18 months. I don't think either of us ever got anything out of any lessons!

We only went to Sacrament meeting. We were visiting my parents and Benson sleeps terrible at other places. He was up for a four hour stretch Saturday night. My parents church starts two hours later than mine so it would have completely thrown things off, and he was so tired, and we are in the nursery so he goes to nursery every week, which he wouldn't have been able to do at my parents house, so we went back to my parents house and all slept.

I'm glad to here that you are doing good, Tif. I've been thinking a lot about you. You're one strong woman!!

Heather, All the flooding is unbelievable. I look at pictures and can hardly believe they are real. That would be so scary. Hopefully it will all calm down soon.

Okay ladies I need to come confess I really need a kick in the butt

I have been totally slacking on going to church. I haven't been to my ward in about a month. I did go while in FL though.

Plus I am having a serious struggle with Modesty . It's always been my biggest downfall, Especially in the summer. I love my tanks and my lounge shorts are a bit short. I start to throw my tanks and cami's away so I won't be tempted but I really do also use them for layering. I need to just force myself to grow up and live with farmer tan lines and be hot.

Plus I really need to get back on track at reading the scriptures. I know that a lot of my issues lately are because of that right there.

Okay I just had to get that out!

Well if we're going to start the confessing....

I've been slacking on church attendence too. I haven't been since, um, February? March? I don't even remember. Temple attendence is even worse, I haven't been since I was pregnant, because they switched out our recommends for the ones with barcodes and my bishop kept the old ones and we never got the stake president to sign the new ones because we moved.
We still pay tithing (usually) and we still live the other church standards, but we are still technically inactive.
When we WERE going, I missed most of the meetings because of Jonah. We are living with my husbands parents now, and they have never liked me, so it's hard to want to go to church and sit with them. Not sitting with them is not an option. The RS president has never spoken to me, I don't have Visiting Teachers, our Home Teachers have never come, and when the bishop wants to give me a calling or the RS wants me to know about things, they tell my MIL to tell me, instead of calling me themselves. I know that's no excuse but it's certainly not a motivation.
    Ok. Please don't judge me!
