Hi everyone:
I'm new here! I'm 6 weeks pregnant and a few days ago I started having small amounts of brown discharge (mainly when I'm on my feet a lot). Has anyone else experience this? I'm going to see my doctor on Friday but worried since I've lost two already.
Gauri
Hi. Sorry about the spotting - it can be very stressful. I've had spotting off and on (it started at about 7 weeks and my last episode was almost two weeks ago). Brown means old blood, so it should be fine, but I'd still call your doctor because they might want to scan you to make sure everything is OK. Mine started as a result of stress at work and then would happen when I was on my feet a lot. If you are taking progesterone suppositories, they can also cause spotting sometimes because they irritate the cervix. My doctor always tells me to lay down with my feet up when I spot and it stops. Some women do spot during the first trimester or throughout their whole pregnancy. Getting a scan to see that everything is OK might make you feel better. Good luck.![]()
Turns out the screening tests showed us at risk for Downs, but at we just made the number for recommendation for genetic testing. The clinic we go to tests for anyone within 1/150 and we were exactly 1/150 for Downs. So had we been 1/151 they would not have referred us for counseling. I must say that I'm glad we went!!!
First off, baby looks very healthy and passed the u/s almost with flying colors! There were no hard markers and no soft markers noted. Almost everything was normal or better. Heart, brain, neck size, leg length, fingers (they look at the pinky digit for abnormalities), etc. They were very detailed in all the pictures of the heart and measurements and same with the brain. The only thing that was not normal was there was a little fluid around the kidneys and they will recheck that closer to delivery. We opted to not do the amnio since we were less than 1% risk and were very pleased with the u/s.
So, now that everyone is waiting about the gender...let me first say that I went alone and didn't want to find out the gender without DH and DD, so I asked the sonographer to make sure when she was in that area of the anatomy to turn the screen away so I didn't accidentally see...then I asked her to take a picture and notate the gender and seal it in an envelope so me and my family could all learn at the same time.
We let DD open the envelope, but we first placed our bets. I bet a boy. DD said she was betting boy, but really wants a girl. DH said probably a girl...yet I know he wanted a boy.

It's a BOY!!!![]()

Sorry, Sarah, but I cracked up when I read that!! I'm getting there, too.. Almost fall over when I get dressed and have to sit down to put my shoes on..I'm down to wearing only pull-on shoes or zip-up boots or slip-on slippers!! Reaching to tie anything is too hard!!
YEAH!! Me, too!!!
Oh, Rhonda, so happy to hear the u/s went well. That is a very, very small risk, and we all have a risk to that! Glad you went to the appt afterall and feel better, and yeah for a baby boy!!!!Are you still going to to do the detailed anatomy scan at 20 weeks? I would, just for another peak at your little cutie pie!!
Good to see you Stacie! Congratulations! A girl, that's wonderful and excitingFeel free to post over here anytime!
I'm so happy everything turned out! I felt that it would. AND You're having a boy!! I bet you all are so happy!
They tell me the thing with the kidneys are very common in boys. I think that is what's going on with my babies.
Once again, happy everything looked so good!![]()
I can still see and paint my toes, but it's not fun! Thanks Rachael...I do feel better and YES I am still going to my 20w scan on 12/20. That is with my regular OB and it's 3D. I went to a specialist for the one this week and it was to finish evaluating our risk.
Thanks! Yes, he's quite excited (and probably relieved he gets his boy). I kept telling him with ICSI chances are strong for a boy, so don't worry!
Congrats (again) Stacie!!
That's good to know. I was told not to worry though it wasn't anything of great concern...
Thanks
Thanks![]()

Morning ladies! I had my dr appt yesterday and totally forgot to ask about genetic testing!! I figure they will try to milk me for whatever (since I'm paying privately, not going through the national health service), so if I needed it they would tell me. Right?
I got to hear my little girl's heart beatand everything is sounding and feeling good. Now I'm on the 2 week appointments - yeah! Next one I have my glucose checked..the time will go by so quickly now.
I even went out and bought something for the LO. Just a little hat and mittens (not winter ones, but for scratching). They are so cute. I'm afraid once I really start shopping then I won't be able to stop.
Oh, and today is 27 weeks!!Only one more week til the 3rd trimester!!!! I can't believe we are here already!
Rhonda, that's great you get a 3D 20 week scan! How fun!! I am trying to organize one for the end of the year, when DH has off work. I can't wait!! Hopefully she will cooperate this time!!

Wow,things ARE starting to go really fast! I'm so proud of you for buying something! I can totally relate to the whole not being able to stop shopping after you start. With a little girl I KNOW it would be a problem! Everything is just so darling! Way to go on 2 week appointments. You'll be holding her before you know it![]()
Glad your LO is doing well. I can't believe in 1 week you are in your 3rd trimester!! Woo hoo! I'm still 2 months behind you. Oh well, I might as well get comfy and sit back for the ride.
I want to buy my little man something, but I will stick with nursery stuff for now since we are only 19 weeks. But no way am I not starting on the nursery very early! LOL

Had another big scan yesterday. The boys look good!! She said that the kidneys looked really good and that there shouldn't be anything to worry about. It was a crazy long appointment too. 1:00-3:15. Getting to see them makes me so happy! They did try to scare me though. They said the septum (part that separates the two sacks)looked really thin and that she thought that might mean they were sharing a placenta and that they could be identical. She also said that sharing a placenta could cause growth issues. OK,that's fine and all. But I know darn well,I've had a lot of u/s,and the tech has always said that my septum looked good and that the placentaSSSSS looked good. I'm chalking her findings up to it being a wee bit crowded up in there at the moment. I don't worry about it at all really. Except for the fact that I know what the others have said and that she is probably wrong, does that also mean that she might be wrong about their little kidneys? I really do feel like everything is OK. These people need to stop trying to scare me about stuff! Gosh,I do enough for myself! If they do come out identical then I really will drop dead! Looking at the little profiles in the u/s pictures I already think they have different noses. We shall see!
Hope everyone is doing/feeling well!
I know here they h m to be obsessed with testing, but not sure how they handle things over there. You can just call back and ask a nurse and she'd be able to go over it with you or just ask at your next appt. I'm sure everything is going fine with your LO at this point since you've had such a healthy pregnancy. So glad you got to hear your girl's heartbeat - what a wonderful sound! Congrat son the 2 week appts. and for the 3rd trimester being just around the corner. SO exciting you bought your first baby things. I can't wait until you start going crazy with shopping!
So glad everything went well yesterday!
I think since they haven't seen anything wrong with the septum so far, that is what you should go with. Glad the kidneys look good - sounds like your little boys are very healthy! It's hard not to get upset over everything they tell you at the doctor. But you're doing a good job taking everything in stride. Keep it up, Mama!
Don't worry, Rhonda, you will be here in no time. It seems like it was just 20 weeks. I keep looking at the calendar thinking "really?!?! 27, already?!?"
Oh boy, that would be crazy if they are identical, but I'm with Michelle, probably just a funny day or difficult to see the septum. I'm glad that everything went well and you had such a long scan to see them!!![]()
I will ask (if I can remember - baby brains here!) next time about the genetic testing..although it's a little late to know anyway. I guess if there IS something wrong then it will be good to know before she comes out so we can be prepared..but aren't those things usually in case you want to terminate? Or am I totally mistaken? I'm going to just go with thinking since everything has been good so far, it will continue to be good.
Do you get a scan this week, or do you have to wait until the 15th, which, by the way, is LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY! I can't wait! You're almost to the 2nd trimester, mama! I'm so happy for you!![]()
On the topic of baby shopping.. anyone have an opinion on this one? I was looking at all these cute little onesie sleeper things, which if they have full legs & feet snaps up the front (versus the leg-less ones, that has snaps around the leg holes). I read somewhere that until the umbilical cord falls off, you shouldn't have front-opening fashions on the baby bc it can rub.
Since I'm clueless, how long does the umbilical cord stay there? If I have the baby in March it's still going to be chilly, so I think the full leg ones are appropriate, but am I hurting her little belly then? It's one of those things that you need to have off the bat when the baby comes, but since they grow out of things so rapidly, I don't want to buy now and regret later, do you know what I mean?
Wow, Everyone is moving along so quickly it seems! I can't believe we are already talking nurseries and baby clothes. I can't wait to buy stuff, but not quite yet. I still feel it would be too early, soon though!
I wouldn't worry too much about the septum, like you said it is getting crowded. Sometimes I can't make heads or tails of the u/s when I see it. And I am earlier than you and just have 1!
Rachel, I have no idea about the umbilical cord. Maybe Google it. Having a girl is exciting as there are so many cute baby things! I would have no self control!
If everything up til now has not indicated identical, I wouldn't put much into that analysis! I bet you are fine and you will have no problem telling these little fellas apart. I have also been told we have to watch the kidneys of our little guy, but someone told me it's sorta common in boys to have some fluid around the kidneys and the tech said she isn't overly concerned, but she will have me come back in later in the pregnancy to take a look. Otherwise, all my appt will continue to be with my regular OB. I'm getting so excited for ALL OF US!!!
Right!!! We are full steam ahead! It's kind of neat that we have women in all stages right now from 11-27 weeks just about! This is going to be so much fun keeping up with our handful of gals. Hoping to get some new additions soon...hoping that Maria gets a positive from her two superb embryos she had transferred this past weekend. Poor dear has really had a tough time and sounds like OHSS is kicking in. Let's all pray for her & DH and maybe these past 2 weeks will all be worth it in the end!!

Ok, forget about waiting...I've waited TOO LONG for this pregnancy and I refuse to believe anything can go wrong at this point, so I am confident enough to start my baby registries, especially knowing we are having a boy. This is something me & DD can do together and I know her being involved will make her feel even more a part of this process. She has been very jealous lately of little things like even my signature on this site - used to have her birthday banner and picture and now it shows the baby instead. I have to fix that, but I thought it probably wouldn't let me have two tickers. However, I've seen lots of women with two tickers so I'm gonna work on that today so she won't feel like she isn't still the most important thing in my world. She's rotten in that she has always had my heart 100% and now she has to share it. There's plenty of room in my heart for 2 or more
!!
Ok, so I'm also ready to paint the room we plan to use as a nursery and pick out patterns over the next month. We don't plan to buy the crib/dresser set until Feb, but we can start shopping for it now to make a decision. Where is everyone else with regards to nursery plans, furniture shopping, registries, etc. ?

See that's the thing, yes they want you do know so you can do something about it, but that is also a reason why my DH & I aren't being aggressive with any testing. We wouldn't do anything about it if there was something wrong. I think that assuming everything is good with your little girl at this point is a good plan. And unfortunately, I don't know anything about the cord and front zip onesies. I agree with Sylvia - check it out online - I'm sure you'll find some info there. Let us know what you find!
And I know, I can't believe I'll be 12 weeks - Wednesday can't get here quickly enough. I don't have a scan until my NT screening on the 17th. Unfortunately DH can't get out of work, so I'm dragging my BFF to that appointment. It will be the first time she can see the baby and she knows to keep me from freaking out. I'm so nervous for that appointment.
Good for you, Rhonda! Sorry DD is a little jealous, but I can understand since she's been the only child for so long. I definitely think you can have two tickers - pinkgirl used to. I'm sure you can contact her if you have trouble setting it up. KUP on all your nursery decisions - can't wait to hear what you've got planned!
Aww..that's so sweet your DD is jealous..she's going to be so in love with the LO when he comes that all that will melt away. I'm sure doing the registry together and working on the nursery will help get her in the mood. She's got a big job being big sister coming up. I think the idea of responsibility helps against jealousy.
Ah, I thought your appt was on the 15th..well, the 17th is close enough, too. Less than a week! Woo hoo!
AFM - Ladies, the flood gates have opened. DH and I went shopping for the LO this weekend and went to this used baby clothes shop in this very wealthy neighborhood. We bought a TON of little outfits, ranging from 0-9 months that were 95% brand new never used - and for pennies practically! The girl working there said no one ever buys used for their first, and people usually get so much more than their babies can wear before they grow out of it.. Good news for us - now we have all these little stylish brand new onesies and dresses for practically nothing. DH was so cute, picking through the racks, too. He was so proud of us for our shopping savviness and is looking forward to rubbing it into his friends. Haha.![]()
No worries! I start the 2nd trimester on the 15th, but my NT screening isn't until Friday. I love that you and DH went shopping together for the baby clothes. Great job saving so much money!!! You'l have the best dressed baby in town! And you can buy even more baby stuff with the money you saved this weekend!
