UPDATE: I wasn't sure if I wanted to share this with everyone, but you are my sisters and I didn't want to keep any secrets from you. Not sure everyone has been around long enough to know my history, but over a year ago, after my 1st failed IVF cycle, my RE ordered a few special labs and it turned out I had some abnormal results. She then referred me to a specialist, Dr Carolyn Coulam with Rhinehart Clinic in Chicago, who ordered additional labs and I was diagnosed with Implantation Failure due to abnormal APA (antiphospholipids) and a blood clotting factor. Along with my advanced maternal age, these were my challenges with IVF. Though we tried 4 attempts at IVF with my eggs, we knew even doing a DE cycle might not work because of the immunological issues. Our second IVF cycle was treated with simple measures, but we still did not achieve a pregnancy and Dr Coulam ordered IVIG with my 3rd and 4th cycles. This is an infusion therapy where I sit for 4 hours as I get an IV of a med called gammagard and the cost is 3k per infusion. Luckily my insurance covers this service and I pay deductible & coinsurance. Anyway, they are taking major precautions with this pregnancy due to my implantation diagnosis and I will undergo weekly early testing to analyze my ANA (antinuclear assay) and APA (antiphospholipid assay) levels through a specialty lab called Millenova. Those tests are about $250 a week. After Dr Coulam reviewed my beta this morning, she recommended I not wait until 9/9 for my next IVIG (28 days is normally how long you wait between sessions), but instead wants me to have it early next week, less than 3 weeks since my last treatment. I wasn't sure how to take that, but I am just grateful that this infusion treatment may help me keep my baby in my uterus. So, in addition to the 4 estrogen patches every other day and getting my 2cc PIO injections and the lovenox 40mg daily shots and prednisone and baby aspirin, I will be undergoing weekly tests & consults with Dr C and IVIG to maintain my pregnancy. I am not discouraged by the news, just thankful I have a team of physicians on top of things and trying to make sure I don't miscarry. Please continue to pray for us and our miracle pregnancy. I had two perfect embabies transferred and I am trying hard to keep my faith that the one that implanted will not be rejected by my body. I feel confident that my numbers will continue to rise, but I am still nervous that things could change at any time. We are so thankful that we have made it this far and we know this is going to be a long ride! I have been keeping a journal and I am also starting a blog. I love all of you ladies with all my heart and I wish EVERYONE successful IVF cycles and I wish all the BFP's a HH9m!! Lots of babies for 2011!!!

I passed red bright blood and some blood clots with belly pain. I was transferred to ED and did US. I had large hematoma in my uterus. Baby was ok. I got some morphine shots for pain. Next day I went to my RE's office and did another US. Hematoma got bigger and bleeding didn't stop. My RE said she never saw this huge hematoma. Baby was tolerated ok(we saw heartbeat!). I stopped baby ASA, changed to PIO shots and strict bedrest til this Wednesday and need to get US. My Re gave me first scan of our baby that made me so sad and cry.. Baby is supposed to be a oval shape, but our baby was like squashed by compressing to large hematoma. My RE can't say how it will be cuz hematoma is too big for gestational sac and I am only 6 week of pregnancy. I pray God to save my baby... Post day 5, my bleeding turned to more brown blood with small amounts. I think my platelet count is normal with very low side of range. Baby ASA caused me to bleed.

How did your news sharing go? I've only told a few people..2 very close friends and 1 not very close friend (only because she was staying at my house for a week and I'm showing and all I want to do is sleep, so I had to spill the beans - I still regret that, but what can you do?). I'm going to tell more close friends and family after my nuchal scan this week..I'm really not interested in telling a lot of people. I want it to be my secret, and I've already gotten unsolicited advice (from the not-close friend) and I'm dreading more of that. Two of DH's friends already asked him if I was PG, but luckily their wives are more discreet.. I guess you can't hide the fact that I gained over 10 pounds since early June!!! So, it will come out soon, but there will be no big announcement from me. I guess I'm a little superstitious. I think about this topic all the time, because I don't know how to do it and I don't want to be the center of attention (or advice)..

We did tell my MIL yesterday afternoon. She was very happy, but she understood that we are not telling anyone for a few weeks at a minimum (after 1st u/s) and maybe longer, depending on how things go. I know she will be good to have on our side for extra special prayers and it helps that she is very supportive and kind. My MIL and DD are the only family that know we are pregnant. I do have four close friends that have been there for me through all of my failed IVF's and they also know we are pregnant. Also one girl at work knows (she is also a good friend), but I told her in confidence because I trust her...plus, she had previously offered to be an egg donor for us. I predict by time I am 7-8 weeks along all of our close friends and family will know. The only folks I am going to keep it from as long as I can is coworkers. I just don't want them in my business.

Rhonda, it sounds like you have a great team of docs working to keep you !!! Good luck on your next beta, I'll be checking on you!

My goodness! I am so sorry about this hematoma and I pray the baby will survive. So, all of this is because of the baby aspirin? Now you got me scared. Please KUP on how it turns out. What can they do about the hematoma other than taking you off the aspirin?

I researched it and ASA will be the most reason for hematoma, 2nd reason is that I do heavy lifting in my work(I am a nurse). Re said there is nothing she can do except stopping ASA. She said we have to wait to see. Don't get scared of ASA. We need baby ASA cuz we take mega dose of hormone therapy. Hormone therapy may cause blood clot such as DVT. DVT is a life threathening condition. I may have thin blood. Another thing, I changed from endometrin to prometrium night before bleeding cuz I ran out of endometrin. I am not sure there is relationship. I heard that 25% pregnancy suffers from hematoma.

I'm happy my numbers doubled as they should within the normal 48-72 hour period for beta check. No more betas for me as I've been cleared by the nurse for beta testing & next visit will be a 7 week u/s with b/w and it's 3 whole weeks away on Tuesday 9/21. So, for now I'll be stalking others and sitting back & relaxing. Of course I will have my weekly early pregnancy monitoring labs for the IVIG which I am going to have again this week. Speaking of...I better get on the phone and schedule that now.

Waiting to see how everyone else does on their second betas and when all the other 1st u/s will be. I wish my clinic did 6 week u/s! Oh well.

Thanks I am envious of all the high betas I've seen from all my cycle buddies on both websited (APA and BCC). I have the lowest number, but at least it more than doubled in the 48-72 hour period for retesting. That is a great sign! I have a friend who did a donor cycle and just had her 1st beta today and it was over 1400. She was worried last night because she started bleeding a few hours after she got a BFP on an HPT. But today's beta should take all her worries away!

yes, I have a blood clotting factor that was found with testing last year. Lovenox is a blood thinner. Thanks!

Girls - I've been out of town since last week and am just reading all the news. You've all been busy!!!

Ok ladies, now I hate to disappoint everyone because you were expecting some super high beta (as I was hoping), but we still have a good solid number which is above 50 meaning we are definitely pregnant and it is within a normal range....



So, sorry if I let you down for those of you that were hoping for multiples....



150 was our lucky number today!



I am thrilled to see a number above 50, so I will not be saddened because we didn't have 380 or 490 as our starting beta, but we are PREGNANT officially!!!

CONGRATS, RHONDA!!!! You're number is magnificent - don't worry about it!

I found out I have follies that are 16 or bigger and will probably have IUI on Sunday or Monday depending on how my labs are later today. Send me some babydust please!

Wohoo, the results are in and is 289! Definitely pregnant! I feel like I can let myself relax a little and celebrate this now Obviously it'll be nice to hear Monday's result and see that everything is doubling properly, but it is really starting to feel real now . Having a few symptoms, including bloating and constipation and a few food aversions and cravings (sweet food for some reason makes me feel ill. . . I would think my body wanted me to go on a diet except that at the moment mayonaise tastes like heaven on earth. . . ).

AFM: I am 9dp5dt today.. I know this may be TMI but as of Monday, I was very constipated and started getting very bloated! I thought it might be gas.. so I waited it out, it started to get worse.. so I called my nurse and she sent me straight in today to get an u/s for monitoring.. well sure enough, I had late onset moderate-severe OHSS... I was immediately sent to the OR, where they put me under and drained 900 ml. of fluid! So I am monitoring that and now I am on rest again On another note... they took an early beta and it was 430, which explains the late onset OHSS! I am back in on Monday for continued monitoring I am very cautious right now BUT wanted to share the news with you Ladies!!!!

So sorry about the OHSS but on your BFP!!!!! COngratulations! Great beta #!!

I hope this change in your protocol isn't stressing you out. I bet Dr. C. is just doing everything she can to make sure your little embabies are OK and have a comfy place to settle in. The extra costs are a bummer, but it will all be worth it when you hold your LO in your arms.

AFM - AF came today. So I go in for my first scan on Wed, 9/1 and we'll see what's happening. I'm so excited for this cycle, especially since there are SO many BFPs here recently. I'm ready to hop on that bandwagon.

1st beta 8/27 = 150
2nd beta 8/30 = 505



I'm happy my numbers doubled as they should within the normal 48-72 hour period for beta check. No more betas for me as I've been cleared by the nurse for beta testing & next visit will be a 7 week u/s with b/w and it's 3 whole weeks away on Tuesday 9/21. So, for now I'll be stalking others and sitting back & relaxing. Of course I will have my weekly early pregnancy monitoring labs for the IVIG which I am going to have again this week. Speaking of...I better get on the phone and schedule that now.

Waiting to see how everyone else does on their second betas and when all the other 1st u/s will be. I wish my clinic did 6 week u/s! Oh well.

I hope this change in your protocol isn't stressing you out. I bet Dr. C. is just doing everything she can to make sure your little embabies are OK and have a comfy place to settle in. The extra costs are a bummer, but it will all be worth it when you hold your LO in your arms.

Thanks I am envious of all the high betas I've seen from all my cycle buddies on both websited (APA and BCC). I have the lowest number, but at least it more than doubled in the 48-72 hour period for retesting. That is a great sign!

The only thing about the number that matters is that it's doubling as it should -- which your number is!!! Don't get caught up on the number, honey. I just looked up "normal HCG levels: in my "what to expect.." book:

3 weeks - 5-50
4 weeks - 5-426
5 weeks - 19 - 7340
etc, etc

Now those ranges look anything but normal to me, and you were well above the 4 week mark with your 2nd one.. so don't you fret!!

Waiting til 7 weeks for your u/s sounds like torture, though. I know you've been hit with a lot of expenses, but would they indulge you in one earlier if you paid for it?

All is good with me. Enjoying my break from baby-making for now.

RE called me. Said he felt horrible our 2nd IVF didn't work out. Told me not to give up hope and to come back to see him. We are meeting with him mid-Sept. Probably not even thinking of doing anything until Jan at the earliest.

Anyway, happy end of summer to all! Congrats to all the new moms-to-be. Praying for all of you. ~ Kellie

Update on U/S:
They changed my 1st ultrasound...moved it up!!!! Woo Hoo!! Instead of 9/21 it will be the week before on 9/16!!!!
