Good Luck to all my IVF sister's.

    Congratulations to all the BFP's!!!

Hi SoBe! So glad you are having such a good experience with your new RE! I can't wait to hear how your next cycle goes! Hoping you get your BFP this time. Glad she added the PIO shots. Those are always a nice precaution.

But the nurse said yesturday my estrogen level dropped Why is that I wonder? I am going in tomorrow and Thursday for monitors of course.
I'm glad the other eggs got bigger, but don't know why your estrogen level dropped. What did they say about that? KUP about what happens tomorrow. Good luck!

    First IVF coming soon.......

Hi. I'm just curious if anyone in this forum is in the process of / or has just finished their first round of IVF. I will be having my procedure in December and am wondering how it went or what sort of things I can do to ensure a successful outcome. Any suggestions? Does anyone know the success rates of the first IVF? thanks

Also, what are your views on ICSI vs. conventional IVF? Are there any risks involved with ICSI that aren't with conventional? I've heard so many different things. hmmmm.....

Hi, nice to meet you! I went through my 2nd IVF in October and we got pregnant. It can be an emotional experience, but it does work. We did ICSI and assisted hatching because we had sperm issues, so it was the best way to ensure the eggs fertilized. We also did pictidish (spelling?) where they place the washed sperm on a protein and it selects the most quality sperm. As far as the success rates, etc, you can ask your doctor - I don't really have that information. But we've been trying to get pregnant for 6 years and IVF was the only way we could. Be sure you have a doctor you trust and try to relax as much as possible. I know it sounds impossible, but in my experience my elevated stress level really affected my first round of IVF last year. I switched REs and my new RE had me stay as calm as possible, which I think helped. Good luck!!

Maria - Congratulations!!! Glad you're going ahead with the procedure and everything is OK KUP on how things go. Good luck!

Good luck on your 1st IVF experience. Best thing to do is research on medical sites regarding IVF procedures and what is involved. How a person does on the first cycle depends on so many factors such as their age, infertility diagnosis (female, male, PCOS, POF, AMA, etc.) and GYN health. Most RE's will give you at least the text book odds at success for your specific situation. Sometimes the protocol makes all the difference and it make take a second try as the RE tries to see how your ovaries respond. If you are very young with PCOS they may do a low dose injection protocol if they think you are at risk for OHSS. If you are AMA they may do a high dose injection protocol to get as many follicles to produce mature eggs as possible. ICSI is used when there are possible male fertility issues like low sperm count or mobility or sperm quality. Assisted hatching is often used with older eggs (AMA) and other situations where the outside of the egg (sorry, don't remember what the proper name of the outside layer of the egg or oocyte) is tough/thick.

Clinics success rates are hard to evaluate because it is based on the patient base for that year being reported. For example, a clinic may have a high ratio of POF and AMA patients and their success factor may be lower than another clinic with twice as many patients, doing twice as many IVF and their patient base is mostly younger women with PCOS and very few male factors. It is important to know the experience of the embryologist who will be handling the eggs/sperm and fertilization and maturation process. You want an RE that will answer your questions and concerns, so make sure you feel comfortable with an initial consult. Good luck with everything and you will find lots of support on this thread.

Thank you so much for all of the information! I am so excited....and nervous and scared. Yes, I've heard to calm your stress prior to IVF, so I think I"m going to get a massage the day before transfer. This forum is so informative. It's so comforting to know others are out there just like me! Thank you so much! I will keep you posted! I start my procedure this month (in a few weeks). If everything works out the way I think it will, my transfer will be on x-mas! What a gift!

Since I haven't had this done yet, a friend of mine told me that she was in alot of pain because of the follicles, and their size. She was in so much pain, she thought she was going to die! So, I'm guessing maybe it's normal for some?

My transfer is tomorrow at 7 am. I have to say it makes me nervous that they're doing a day three versus day five. Anyone have luck with three day transfer?!

oh my goodness! best of luck to you! When I have mine done, I think the transfer will happen 36 hours after retrieval. Does that sound right? Is that what you are referring to "day three transfer vs. five"? If that is the case, I'll be even more nervous with a day and 1/2 transfer! yikes! Let me know how it goes! Best of luck to you!

Just popping in to see how everyone is doing.

Maria, good luck with the transfer. Mine was a day 3 and it was successful! Just relax after. The retrieval pain is normal, sometimes it is worse because of where the follicles are, having to go deeper. Fortunately the transfer is painless. Actually quite fascinating, we got to see the embryos on the computer screen!

RogersBABY2bee, the ivf procedure has so many variables. Just relax and try to take care of yourself. I really did not know a whole lot going in, and found these wonderful ladies after the fact! Maybe it was a good thing, so I didn't obsess too much and drive myself

SoBe glad to see you are back and with a re you are comfortable with!

Good luck to all on their protocols.
