The group last night went really well! I had no reason to be nervous. I knew everyone but one woman, and it was just such a relaxed atmosphere. Can I just say I LOVE my church and my fellowship and my friends??

Ladies, I am exhausted from the day but just wanted to share that the dedication was awesome! Of course the enemy tried to throw in little things here and there to steal my peace (like being stuck on a road for 25 minutes on our way to the dedication that we frequently travel to church and has never had traffic) but of course it was awesome. The cake was AMAZING (both in appearance and taste) and it was just a really great time with family and friends.

Will try to post some pictures soon!

Ayles - I'm so glad it went well!
    Now I want cake.

CR went well. DH seemed to hit it off with the guys there and said he will be going back and that he thinks it will be good for him and for us. So yay!
For me, I don't know. The group of women there are going through some heavy stuff. I kind of feel like I don't quite "fit". I emailed the counseling ministry leader to see if I can get some one on one counseling/mentoring with a mature Christian sister. (mature in Christ, age doesn't matter). I'm just praying for God to lead me where He wants me to be.

    Thanks, Polly

I felt the same way when I attended the co-dependency group for the very first time. I didn't feel like my problems measured up to what some of the other ladies were going through but then God spoke to me that even though they were different and from the world's standard seemed "less" serious their impact on my life, my relationship with God and with DH was extremely serious so I equally belonged there and needed the process of santification, deliverance and accountability through attending the group.

Not to say it can't be different for you but what I found to be really rich was the community piece of CR. The sisters in my group really held me stay up, encouraged me, prayed for and with me, and it gave me the opportunity to encourage other sisters and foster some very strong, godly relationships.

I say all that to say it can be overwhelming at first but for me, I eventually became very comfortable and really was blessed in the process. Praying for you as you seek God for wisdom and guidance in this process

Thank you for sharing your experience, Ayles. I should try it again.
The other issue is child care. They don't provide it yet. Not sure if other places do, but our church just recently started hosting it so they aren't at that point yet.

Question for you ladies: A woman at CR runs a daycare out of her home. Her two girls have been helping her there since they were like 8 years old. They are 11 and 12 now. She said they could come on Thursdays to watch Lily at the church during CR.

Would you be comfortable with that? That seems really young to me. But on the other hand, they might know more than the average 11 and 12 year old given their experience, and it is at the church right down the hall from us and all the adults. What do you think?

Yes, she said we could. Only problem is that the church (and the family) is so far away. Not sure how I could just meet them before Thursday since we don't have the extra money for an extra trip.

Hmmm. I dunno. For me, I'd have to meet and know the girls before I'd leave my kids.

Polly, is there anyway to hang out thursday with the girls and lily, then jump in the following week? Since they'd be on the church campus with you, I'd be a bit more comfortable, but I'd want to help lily adjust to them and just sort of feel it all out before completly leaving.

The other thing I'd do is excuse yourself from the group once or twice and randomly peek through a door or window, just to get a feel for how all 3 are doing.

So I finally came out of lurking at my church. I went to the mother's support group which is taught by the pastor's wife. She is really sweet. Mother of 3 with about 10 grandkids. So go me!

SO this may sound a little random..but I am really sadenned by our country's state of affiars politicaly, moraly, socially. As the elections roll around again it's just another reminder how evil people can be. To be honest I don't think we will ever ever get back to a unified country. We have come way to far from what we use to be. But besides that we, as a "melting pot", have too many world views to unite as one. We as Christian see the world so differently then unbelievers. And it effects everything we do and believe in. I don't see us ever getting back to a country on our knees before the Lord again. And it's just sad. Any thoughts?

Completely agree. I am not even voting for a governor in my state because I dislike all the candidates and I will not vote for the "lesser of the 2 evils". It bothers me how lackadaisical other Christians have become. The whole there is nothing I can do, so just let this country fall apart. Yes God may be bringing America to an end, but as Christians we are called to pray for our leaders. If we all stop then why should God hear us.

Oh yes. Our youth pastor at our church has a blog and wrote an article "America's True Hope and Change" http://www.pastorjonas.com/ it's a great read on Christians responsiblities to government. It's short and the first point could be expanded to include you are bound to obey the Lord first so if the government forces abortion you can't obey them. But I know he didn't want to make a 16 point sermon out of his blog. LOL
I just find it really sad that there are very few candidates Christians can really say will bow the knee before God for wisdom in making decisions for our country. Even in the "conservitive" camps. Yeah they may be socially conservitive but not biblical.
I will go an vote. But it's with a heavy heart as usual hoping and praying for true change in our nation.

I've been saying things like this to dh for awhile now. My dh works for a revival ministry and we/they try to seek a spiritual renewing among God's people. I've said to dh we won't see revival until this country is broken because otherwise people won't see the need for Jesus.

I agree, I think the state of the country is not good, but I also don't see us really being united again anytime soon. I do however question the original state of our nation. I don't think our founding fathers were as "Christian" as some say they were. Thomas Jefferson who wrote the declaration of Independce is also the one who cut out the virgin birth and miricles from his bible...? Then In DC there are symbols everywhere of Free Masons, and that was set up by Washington... so yeah.... Im totally conflicted on weather things are getting worse or just more noticible with all the new technology..?

Mary, did you see this CA Christian voters guide? http://www.electionforum.org/2010-st...positions.html Still doesn't solve all the problems, but sort of a helpful visual...

Ah yes revisionist history at it's finest. (not an insult to you but to secular institutions trying to some how instill that America was not founded on Christian principles) A small small small majority may not have had the fundamental Christian viewpoints as others but they were still believing in God and Christ. However the government was set up and instilled with much pointing to God and Christ and the need for this country to stay focused on Him. Many of the founding fathers were preachers, evangelist, and openly Christian. The Delaware Charter defines one of the purposes for its settlements as the "further propagation of the Holy Gospel." The charter of Rhode Island commits to "the true Christian faith and worship of God." The Charter of Maryland explained a "pious Zeal for extending the Christian Religion."A great read and reminder is this book. http://www.amazon.com/Americas-Chris.../dp/0805430326

However the first settlers, the pilgrims, were undoubtedly fundamental bible believers. Those would be the true foundations of this nation. The Mayflower Compact specifies that the colonies were established "for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith."

Even in our north Carolina constitution the disqualifications of an elected official are as follows
The following persons shall be disqualified for office:
First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.
Second, with respect to any office that is filled by election by the people, any person who is not qualified to vote in an election for that office.
Third, any person who has been adjudged guilty of treason or any other felony against this State or the United States, or any person who has been adjudged guilty of a felony in another state that also would be a felony if it had been committed in this State, or any person who has been adjudged guilty of corruption or malpractice in any office, or any person who has been removed by impeachment from any office, and who has not been restored to the rights of citizenship in the manner prescribed by law.

Oy - I'm not going to join the political discussion as I live and breathe it these days. DH and I usually stay good about not having too many political discussions but with his sister running for congress I can't escape it at work, home, or church. At least I don't have TV so I don't get all the ads but I know the race is getting dirty, as expected. I can't wait for November 3! DH votes to what he thinks will balance each layer of government. I think we need to start a best party like Iceland.
Ayla I can't wait to see pictures of the dedication - and that cake!
Polly, I babysat when I was 12 - and I think especially with them being right down the hall from you it would be ok. The biggest thing I would worry about with a 12-year old is them knowing emergency procedures, but if adults are that close that would minimize things. And if Lily is ok with the girls I would be ok - but you have to do what you are comfortable with.
Mary - congrats on coming out of lurking It feels so nice to start having a church family.
Amanda that is great the bible study went so well! Actually we talked about confessing to each other in our small group two weeks ago too. I think I would feel so awkward (at first) but I can see it being really healthy and a way to really grow, be held accountable, and really work through overcoming sin. Have you done it before?

Argh - I'm working/APA'ing right now and something crossed my mind to look for a better respirator for some testing I did last week with carbon nanotubes. I looked up the health effects to see what rating respirator I need discovered working with carbon nanotubes is like working with asbestos - but worse - and possibly carcinogenic. I had a respirator but it isn't very highly rated. Pretty frustrating. As much as I hate doing so I think I need to talk to our EHS group. At least it was only for 2-3 days that I was handling it so my exposure was relatively limited.

Here are a few pictures from the dedication. Our camera ones were blurry but my sister in law is supposed to email me hers which I'll upload once I have. And my MIL was taking them and took majority of them from the screen so that's what it is in the ones that look digitalized. Oh and the one in front of the baby blocks was the video we took a week before to introduce who we were dedicating.

sorry. Carbon nanotubes are basically tubes comprised entirely of carbon whose walls are one or a couple atoms thick and can be up to 18 cm long. They are 100 times stronger than steel while being a fraction of the weight and have interesting electromagnetic properties. The nobel prize in physics a couple weeks ago went to scientists that do research on graphene, which is basically a carbon nanotube split open and rolled out like a ribbon. Carbon nanotubes have numerous potential applications; I wouldn't be surprised if they become incorporated in various electronics in computers within 10-15 years, making them even faster and less likely to overheat.

Here is a picture of one: The hexagonal structure is unique and essential to carbon nano-research. If you've ever heard the term "buckyball" before it refers to carbon-60; a soccer ball looking sphere of carbon atoms, which are also incorporated into carbon nano-research.

So it's very cool stuff, but because it's so small and dense (not even helium can pass through it, the second lightest element after hydrogen) it can pass through cell membranes fairly easily.

Ayles such gorgeous pictures! I love the cake - how beautiful! You have a beautiful family
