In CA they do not legally require that to work, but in NC I have to be state licensed and to do that I need a degree and certification.

Anyway, I would love to be able to work part-time with something that uses my signing skills. Well today I got a private message on that mommy forum from a woman who recently moved to NY. She is an instructor with WeeHands Sign Language classes for babies and toddlers. She said this area has a desperate need for instructors and she wanted to know if I was interested in becoming one. She moved away, but wants to make sure there is someone else to take over for this area.

I need to find out more about it, but it sounds neat! I guess we will see what happens....
    Sounds like a great opportunity!

I never thought about it that way, Brenda, about a church of 500. I grew up in a larger church & felt lost in it. There were cliques & I just wasn't in them. I think it used to be around 500 but not everyone had kids so it seemed humongous to me. Of course, I was younger, too, and probably had a different perspective than I do now. Anyway, I know that not all large churches are like the one that I grew up in & that they can be awesome to people to grow in the Lord.

I guess I'm too country. lol My church is only 4 years old this month so it's small (under 150) and I fit really well there. I feel comfortable going to the altar, speaking up, and playing our piano for singing/choir. And most importantly, I've grown as a Christian. I've done more maturing in Christ in the last 10 months since I started attending than I've done since I was a child. I feel the fire there. Such a good feeling. I think I could talk about how great my church is all day. lol

And Polly - that opportunity sounds promising! Definetly look into it, pray about it, and keep us updated.

Yeah Carrie! I totally understand. Our church is just right in size. I think we have 350 memebers registered (including kids) and about 20 regularly attending visitors and many other visitors that don't attend regular. It's the 2nd oldest church in the state and in the 5th on the east coast. We just celebrated our 208th (or 09th) anniversary. We're an old farm church. Most of our families can date back as far as the church has been opened. We got lots of interesting facts. Like for example the farmers who owned slaves (many were african american but some were polish, Irish) as many other people did back then, not saying it's right or anything, would bring their whole clan to church and they would all sit together. Not like in the other churches where i've seen balcony only were the salves and the first floor the masters. In our church notes from a meeting some of the slaves asked if they could congregate and meet on their own. That was granted and not far from us sits New Providence Baptist Church still to this day. Their history is here. http://www.newprovidencebaptist.com/church-history.html
We are still in good standing together to this day. Just cool facts like that!!
I love my church. Our sunday school class now has 22 people (11 couples because were in the young couples class). We will gain an new couple after their wedding this weekend. So it's a lot of fun and we all bond really well as a church family.

Hi! Boy I have missed a lot being MIA! Can't respond to everything that's happened in the past week but I wanted to say good luck Polly on the church seeking and you'll be in my prayers that the signing opportunity comes to fruition!

Wow! That is alot of history in that church! Over 200 years! So many cool facts. I think bonding well as a church family is important regardless of the size of the church.

So while I am extremely thankful for getting food assistance, the system still frustrates me. They have said multiple times how they sent out notices requesting certain paperwork but we never received them. This time before we even knew it we "missed" the due date (did not get a single notice about them needing more verification of DH's employment) and so we were denied benefits for the month of May leaving us in a tight spot for food again. I got DH's paystubs now though so she said we could get it for June onwards. Sigh. Thank you Jesus that this too has a purpose even if I can't see it

The system is frustrating, I agree. I'm glad you have the benefits from June on, though!

Hey! Welcome back! Of course you are welcome. Jump on in!

So the power in the area went out today. It was really hot and humid, and without AC it was bleh! So we did what we had to do. We jumped in the pool and played until the power came back on! Lily got her baby float a day early (it was a birthday gift). Speaking of, it is 12:30 am, which means my baby girl is officially one year old!! I can't believe she is so big already!

We are waiting on a paycheck. Until it comes, we have no money for a birthday cake or anything. I know we can celebrate later and she won't know the difference, but its a mommy thing. *sigh* I really hope it comes today.

Oh, the teaching ASL thing requires some start up cost for materials/curriculum, so I have to wait until I can pay for that. Do you ever feel like your whole life is on hold for "when we have the money"??

I know that feeling all too well.

    Happy Birthday Lily!!!

So I get to go to my women's Bible study this morning for the first time in forever. We're a one car family, so I don't usually get to go. But DH is at youth camp all this week so I've got the car.

Happy birthday Lily; what a beautiful picture!

about not being able to do anything right now for her birthday. I do understand how frustrating that can be but praying God would give you peace and that the enemy wouldn't use that to steal the celebration of this good and perfect gift from above!

Yes I do know how it is to put things on hold because of not having enough money. But I also know how awesome God is to give me peace, patience, and to work out my circumstances in the interim until He chooses to meet that need. A major example would be school. I couldn't go this summer because I didn't get financial aid and we don't have the money for me to pay for classes. This puts me back yet another semester but God has given me such a peace about it and I have had the opportunity to rest this summer, enjoy my family, and not worry about leaving Adriel while he is still exclusively nursing. Another smaller example is our car's a/c. It hasn't been working since it got hot outside. We finally got a quote from the car place which was only $55-that's a testimony in itself-but we weren't able to do it the week before last or last week because of other bills. We will be able to do this week but guess what? These last two weeks the weather has been beautiful every single time we've had to take Adriel out. When God says He shall supply all our needs He aint playin

    Its like $3 at Walmart!

We were in the pool yesterday with our landlords and their kids, and some of their friends and their kids. It was a pool party! lol
There was another little girl also named Lily, 4 years old, totally cute. She was still getting used to the water and she wanted to try our floatie, so we let her. With the floatie on, she climbed up on another floating toy in the pool and flipped over it. Her head was underwater and her legs were sticking straight up. She couldn't flip herself over, and of course she couldn't scream for help.

My DH was the only adult in the pool and he hadn't noticed it. I was up in half a second screaming at him to get her and ready to jump in. He got her and she was ok, but it scared me half to death. Its crazy how fast something like that can happen.
