Stalking Miss Polly!
My uncle asked me if I would sing with him when we have my grandma's service. I feel honored. She is still hanging in there. I just wish her suffering would be over!

Manda I just wanted to say thanks for the introduction to ROH ministry. I did the 30 day true woman challenge last month and get the daily show emailed to me daily in the AM now. It helps me keep God in the forefront of my day; when before I would often forget to devote time/prayer except at night.
So - thanks!
This article was posted in the secular room.
What do you ladies think?
I know what I thinkand I have one verse that sums it up, but I was curious what my fellow Christian gals thought.

I missed this before... not sure how that happened. lol
Wow, if I honestly cared what they thought I might be offended at them calling me stupid.
I have a lot of thoughts on it, but I'm going to think on it a little more before going too far into it. I don't want to write a novel, as I'm prone to doing.
I'm curious though, what verse did you think of?
Oh, I originally came in here to share some silliness that happened the other day.
I was napping, and I was rolled on my side, kind of on my tummy. I SWEAR I felt the baby move! I thought "No, its way to early for that. What is going on?" And then I realized... Lily's little hand was under me and she was wiggling her fingers.
So I DID feel my baby move, just not THAT baby. hahaha
But I don't think that I will get offended by it. People are going to think what they think, yk? I also have read stats where winter babies are less intelligent than babies born in other seasons. I guess I'm just one big ol' idiot with that type of double-whammy.
That is so sweet.Lily actually lets you nap?! Gotta love that girl!!
I read a study that said mothers who experience more difficult morning sickness have smarter babies. If that's the case, Lily is going to be a genius!
Two naps a day, still. God is good! lol
Yep, that does sum it up!
I thought it was interesting that they said "more intelligent people" are more likely to care "about an indefinite number of genetically unrelated strangers they never meet or interact with."
Christianity is FULL of people serving the poor, needy and sick. It is God's command to do so. Christians serve people around the world that they have never met or interacted with. Mission trips to raise buildings, dig wells, bring food and medicine, etc., happen all the time. Tithe money is given.
Are they saying that the "intelligent" people that check a box to vote in more government assistance care more than the religious people that serve these people face to face?
Bleh on the article! I feel yucky today.

This was interesting on many levels.
"Young adults who subjectively identify themselves as "very liberal" have an average IQ of 106 during adolescence while those who identify themselves as "very conservative" have an average IQ of 95 during adolescence."
"Young adults who identify themselves as "not at all religious" have an average IQ of 103 during adolescence, while those who identify themselves as "very religious" have an average IQ of 97 during adolescence."
Political preference is stronger determinant than religious preference? Does young adult = adolesent? The wording is too vague to tell; perhaps they don't want to say their evidence is based on teenagers? I know as a teen myself, I considered myself to be liberal (I grew up in NY). I was also very idealistic in my ideas on how I could 'change the world'. As an adult, I consider myself to be conservative, and have a more practical stance on my capabilities in life. I am also more focused on my friends and family. Does that mean that I've grown to be less intelligent?
"So more intelligent children may be more likely to grow up to be liberals."
May? Not a very scientific conclusion.
"So being sexually exclusive is evolutionarily novel for men, but not for women. And the theory predicts that more intelligent men are more likely to value sexual exclusivity than less intelligent men, but general intelligence makes no difference for women's value on sexual exclusivity. Kanazawa's analysis of Add Health data supports these sex-specific predictions as well."
Generally, what population would you associate sexual exclusivity with? Conservative or liberal? Religious, or non-religious? If you follow the news, there is always a story about some conservative politician or religious leader having affairs - is that because it's not news if the person is liberal?
I also hate seeing reports on scientific data without statistics. IQ's of 103/97 and 105/95 are not that far apart. They are missing two things: 1. standard deviation or "spread" of the data. 2: p-factor or 'statistical significance'. This tells you how likely you are to reproduce the data by essentially throwing a set of dice. I've seen scientific studies which report lots of data which is 'statistically insignificant'.
"In the current study, Kanazawa argues that humans are evolutionarily designed to be conservative, caring mostly about their family and friends, and being liberal, caring about an indefinite number of genetically unrelated strangers they never meet or interact with, is evolutionarily novel. So more intelligent children may be more likely to grow up to be liberals."
Um - so why are we not evolutionarily designed to be more intelligent?
""Humans are evolutionarily designed to be paranoid, and they believe in God because they are paranoid," says Kanazawa. This innate bias toward paranoia served humans well when self-preservation and protection of their families and clans depended on extreme vigilance to all potential dangers. "So, more intelligent children are more likely to grow up to go against their natural evolutionary tendency to believe in God, and they become atheists.""
Is it just me, or does that conclusion not follow at ALL from the introduction of the argument? It is presented in the form of "If this, therefore this." I might be missing this completely - but what is it that makes more intelligent children to go against the evolutionary tendency to believe in God?
I'd be curious to see what was being said in the secular room. Personally I think it's a poorly written article on a potentially bad study, authored by someone who seems to be liberal leaning, but not intelligent enough to clarify some points which I think need to be addressed more frankly.
*steps down from soap box* sorry about that. I get heated about scientific journalism sometimes.
I like the bible verse you picked out!
JennC - love all your points.![]()
I was too tired to write point by point arguments of all the things I wanted to. You hit a lot of great ones!
I was a whole lot more liberal when I was young also. I feel God has blessed me with more wisdom as I have matured. lol But it does remind me of a quote from Winston Churchill. "'If you're not a liberal at age 20, you have no heart. If you're still a liberal at age 40, you have no head.' "(I wonder what his IQ was? ;))
